Coventry are doing a madness here
Another reason why there are so few good English managers.
The old boys club is still very much alive and kicking and nobody can tell me that there aren't better young English managers than serial failure Lampard, who's only picked for his name.

The likes of Lampard, Gerrard lack humility.

What I mean by that is they don't do absolutely eveything to gain extra skills that will help them to be an even better coach.

Look at Amorim. He studied psychomotor education, he quit a coaching role because he wasn't fully qualified and his club were getting fines against them after each game he was in charge.

A lot of foreign coaches go to the Welsh, Irish or Scottish FA to study and improve their English at the same time.

They are willing to seek assistance from anywhere.

Compare that to Lampard and Gerrard who think getting your badges and relying on your experience as a pro is enough. Only willing to drop to the Championship and coach a club there but real quick to get out too.

Having been a top player doesn’t seem to have any bearing whatsoever on suitability to become a world class manager but the football world seems determined to ignore the evidence.

It seems like clubs get desperate, panic and hope for a hail Mary.
As if just the aura of when they were a player will be inspiration enough to dig them out of a hole, without the sense to realise they're just digging it deeper.

WOW- just how he keeps getting jobs is puzzling to me. I expect many Chelsea loans in the winter holiday

That's the only decent reason to employ him, and even if they get some top talents they'll be severely hampered by having to have Lampard as their head coach!

Always amazes me how Football Club Chairmen, usually very clever chaps, with tons of business experience, continue to employ failures at football management such as Lampard.

I think we can honestly say that the last good generation of English managers was the Bobby Robson/Terry Venebles era. For whatever reason no English manager has ever managed to reach the top since, whether they were top players or not.

We'll see how the current generation of young managers looks a decade from now. Definitely think Kieran McKenna has something about him.

I think Hoddle was decent, just his own opinions and brovado fucked him. EDIT as boring as Southgate is he done pretty well.

I like Lampard tbh.

As a coaches he’s not a ‘failure’.

He did well at Derby, did ok at Chelsea with no money and a very young team and not so great at Everton which is proving to be an incredibly difficult job.

He seems like a really decent bloke who is determined and will continually learn and improve, he might do absolutely fine at Coventry.

Rooney however needs to give up management for sure

HR didn't do well at Derby, he took them from comfortable play off team who then struggled to squeak in. He had one good half of football against the favourites Leeds and then got well beaten in the final. Derby were a decent side before he took over

Season before lampard they came 6th and semi finals of play-offs, under Lampard they came 6th and runners up in play offs.

Season before in cups out in 2nd and 3rd round, under Lampard 4th and 5th.

That’s hardly failure.
He actually effectively improved them across the board in only his first season.

They also played some nice football.

Relied heavily on getting Tomori and Mount on loan from Chelsea who were way too good for that level at the time, plus Harry Wilson from Liverpool. Assistant Jody Morris was also considered the brains of the operation by most, like Liam Rosenior was to Wayne Rooney.

If Lampard can tap into the academies in the same way already in January then he might do alright, but I don't expect him to do well.

I struggle to see how he articulates his ideas and vision when he comes across as thick as shit..
He does tend to have that about him but honestly he has been on the overlap and other YouTubers and actually comes across as a very nice guy. Still a granny shagger though. :sneaky:
