I was just looking through the top clubs in the football rich list to see where he could go...

1.Barcelona - Would Real sell to them?
2. Real - Looking to leave there.
3. Man Utd - Possible. Struggling on the pitch.
4. Bayern - Possible, but they've already got Coman, Perisic, Gnabry and seem to want Sane.
5. PSG - They're already struggling to fit Mbappe, Neymar, Icardi and Di Maria into their team.
6. Man City - City probably don't need him and doesn't seem to be the kind of signing they usually go for.
7. Liverpool - Don't need him.
8. Tottenham - We all know about this. Struggling on the pitch, wages would be a big problem, the transfer fee would probably be too high, but he has ties to the club and the manager has been trying to sign him for years.
9. Chelsea - Not sure about them. Do they need him when they've got Pulisic and Hudson Odoi?
10. Juventus - Would he go to another club where Ronaldo plays?
11. Arsenal - Very unlikely, but they do pay stupid wages. Levy would be seen as a failure if Bale went there.

Now that the Chinese market is off the table it looks like his options are so limited. Wherever he goes Real will probably need to subsidise his wages and it's starting to look like they might have made a big mistake by not letting him go to China last July.

Who is the user who wrote those really detailed posts on why Bale coming back was a real possibility/would make sense?

EDIT: Instead of lazily asking I looked it up, it's minesadouble

This is too complicated a deal to have us thrash out in this short amount of time; especially given our negotiation tactics.

From the noises his agent is making it kind of Sounds like he ”happy” to sit on bench and see out his contract

Is it just agent warfare. He's happy to sit on the bench e.g. Real will just take a hit as opposed to he really wants to go to spurs and Real will squeeze as much as possible out of the deal.

I'm not sure its that simple. The vast majority of athletes want to play. They may not be willing to take the financial hit a compromise would require, but there can be cases where the pain is so great, they are willing to compromise, e. g. Eriksen. At the risk of stating the obvious, with the Euro's coming up, Bale probably understands the importance of regular game time. RM knows this and will leverage this i would think. Tottenham knows that RM wants to get him off the books and will attempt to leverage that. And Bale knows what he could do for Tottenham or any club and will attempt to leverage that. Given the Euros at stake, all the players have incentive to play their cards close to the chest. Knowing of the failure of the move him to China last summer, i suspect RM could be the one to blink first. With the complexity and the stakes, you would think this has to go down to the last hour as all parties attempt to maximize their gain and minimize their loss. And it could all fall apart at anytime if one player decides that it won't happen and it's too much effort to attempt to find a formula.

How I imagine the Bale discussions went:

Levy: How about that Bale fella?
Madrid: Sure 30million
Bale: Sure but I want to keep my wages
Levy: we enquired

Appreciate time is short but would it really take that long for the clubs to agree a loan for the rest of the season? We give them a £10m loan fee which would cover over half his wages between now and then and both clubs commit to working on a longer term deal to complete in the summer? I know Barnett has said he doesn’t want to do a loan but if he can look at the bigger picture...surely makes sense?

I doubt that a six month loan works for anyone. Bale would have to move his family, include taking his kids out of school. I doubt he'd want to do that if he might have to move again in the summer. We could see him join and play brilliantly and then Real could increase the price, or he could be a flop, or pick up an injury and Real would be stuck with him.

Might as well close this thread now and give our full attention to threads about players we might actually sign

like Christian Benteke.

Maybe works for most players, but I don’t think Bale has to worry about not getting a Wales call-up for the Euros.

To be honest, I just get the impression that Bale is quite happy to be a bit part at a club like Madrid, being paid a huge wage and having the lifestyle there that he enjoys. I find it a bit of a shame, but that’s his prerogative.

I’m sure if we or another big team could throw enough money at it he’d be happy to move, but I don’t think he’s desperate to get out otherwise he’d be gone by now.

i don't think his motivation is the call up but rather it is being at his best so that he could lead Wales as far as it could get. Perhaps i'm wrong.

I bet Perez is absolutely kicking himself on that one. It’s sad how it’s ended up like this for him there, it was his dream move, and he’s been a vital player for them over the years and scored pivotal goals that have won them the biggest competitions. It’s kind of disgraceful how their fans have treated him tbh.

The Real Madrid fan base makes no sense to me at all. Fickle, knee jerk, expect miracles, slag off players that have been great servants to the club - nothing ever good enough. Wouldn't catch Spurs fans at that

He doesn't want to do a loan and neither do Madrid. Things change and all that but I don't see this as a goer now.
