Take away the romanticism of it all, I really think we should be scouting and spending whatever is required to bring in the next Bale.

So many exciting prospects out there.
With the greatest respect how many next Bales are there, at this point in time I'd guess not a one. Players like him are rare as a Cardiff City cup final.

Levy isn't paying his salaries, so would Bale give away something like 30 million to play in this team? Golf isn't cheap you know.

Are we his favourite club? As a professional I'd say he probably doesn't have one. Madrid was his dream but their fans have treated him like shit so I doubt they would be up there and whilst we still seem to love him I only ever felt it was one sided. Southampton might be the closest thing to a club that he loves as he grew up within their ranks.

So after a flurry of ITK activity a couple of nights ago this has gone deathly quiet. Always seemed unlikely given the financials but can we assume this isn't moving forward? Certainly no sense of momentum through the press and Madrid leak like a sieve. Will be a shame if we never to see him play for us again but that 24 hours of excitement on Tuesday was great!

It wasnt really a flurry and info we received is that we just enquired like im sure many many other clubs have, people understand that as the deal is 70% done and work out weird ways financials could work to bring that 70% to 85% in their own minds

I’m still at Luton with a Welcome home Bale sign? Any info on when he will return. The wife is saying she is going to leave me if I don’t come home in the next hour. But I don’t want to miss his triumphant return??

I love bale and would love him to come back but.. controversial opinion. He isn't really hungry enough to make the move happen, and I really don't believe he is motivated enough to really be the top player he should have been. while real madrids witch hunt is crazy there is, as often is the case, a degree of truth in it.

This is not a new thing, a teamates interview with Defoe a few years ago showed that sometimes he would simply refuse to train if he didn't want to. Similarly, he is a deeply unpopular figure in the real Madrid squad and fans. A lot of this is cultural but a lot of it is based on the lack of seriousness and dedication real Madrid expect from all players.

This latter point is very important. It's not that bale has just been individually singled out. Take the 'wales, golf, Madrid in that order' banner that bale held up. Yes it was a dig at the media rather than the squad itself but it also showed his lack of seriousness towards real Madrid. It's fun and games sure but you simply can't do that there, and Bale knew exactly what he was doing.

If Bale wants to really dedicate himself to football he should be pushing for a move. Here or elsewhere. I don't think we'll see that. This isn't a personal dig, I wouldn't be so different, but it is a sad waste of talent.

Didn't know that, interesting. Another player I wished we'd kept for much longer.
