Does Jimmy actually want an ‘honour’? If he does then I’m 1000% behind it.

A fair few people don’t want a title from the establishment though. Many a famous name has turned them down in the past. I’d certainly turn one down.

Someone of Jimmy’s standing doesn’t need recognition from the establishment anyway, he’s way above that. The mans a football god.

From what I've read, yes, he does want one. He was asked how he should be introduced at a function years ago, Sir Jimmy Greaves? Jimmy Greaves M.B.E.? He said, no just Jimmy Greaves FA.

Geez poor old Jimmy can hardly walk or speak I am not sure he is in a position to care - sadly I think this ship has sailed

It was a disgrace when Bobby Moore wasn't knighted. Let this not be the case for Greavsie. Sign the petition.

No apologies for bumping this thread.

Like so many old stagers on here, Greavsie was, is, and always will be my all-time Spurs hero and best ever player. I was so lucky that my peak time attending home and away matches regularly (1964/1974) as a teenager coincided with much of his glittering career in our club colours - so many wonderful memories (though unbelievably he didn't score on my 'debut', a 4-3 win against Wolves in Sept '64).

Mark the calendar, set your timer:

We won't see his like again.

** edit. They look to have the date wrong on the banner headline - the actual article says it's on Weds 18th Feb (not today Sat 8th Feb).
It was also my first game! I still have the programme. By the way it was 4 Sept '63.

Come on he deserved that, after 70+ years of no Brit grand slams. Also was World No 1 for a year, 2 Olympic Golds and led the Team GB out in Rio...
I didn't say he didn't deserve it. I believe he warranted top recognition although I do think that giving out gongs to guys in their twenty's is a little premature and sometimes misguided lets check it out at the end of their careers. Greavsie did it constantly from 15 to 30 and better than Shearer or Hurst (World Cup accepted).

One of my many abiding memories of Jimmy was the England v The rest of the world match at Wembley .
You had an array of the worlds best players and anybody who attended that match will tell that Jimmy was the MOM by far and outshone every player there . For all the different types of goals what stood him apart in my eyes was the way his bread and butter goals were like passes into the net and done so naturally and easy that you were lead to forget the genius of his goalscoring .
I saw 1951league winning side tho only 8 years old and have attended the bulk of home games and more than a few away from home up to now and am still a season ticket holder and have seen all of the greats in that time who played for spurs .
I can say he is was and still is my all time favourite player .
There used to be a buzz when the ball went to him and I remember a Man Unt supporter saying that he gave them the willies when the ball was at his feat in fear of what they new he could produce .

Watching it tonight. Loads of goals of his is never seen before.

If it wasn’t for him I wouldn’t be a spurs fan. He was my dad’s favourite player so he’s he’s always been close to my heart. I lost my dad in 2013 to CJD so watching this brought back a lot of memories of him. Also because of how Jimmy is now it resonates quite a lot with me. I hope Greavsie gets to watch this and it fills him with joy, it’s what he deserves.
