I’ve always had a problem with slicing and really wanted to try and turn this into a fade at worst this year so I made a conscious decision to see a coach this year that would work with me on a more regular basis rather than do my usual of see a coach and work on quick fixes that never get me anywhere once I leave the range.

3 months in and my handicap has dropped from 28 to 21 and I’m playing much more consistently which is helping me to start enjoying my golf again. Shot an 81 2 weeks ago which is by far my lowest score though it was tempered by the fact it was a par 66 made up of par 3 and 4’s.

Can’t wait to book another lesson, just need to keep it up over the winter months now.

Sounds like you've worked really hard, great effort. I too had a huge slice, and you have 2 choices; aim down the right side for the rest of your life (I'm a lefty), or work hard and sort it. Happily, like yourself, I chose the latter.
I've tried to play as much golf as possible over the last few months, and reckon i've maybe missed 2 weekends as the weather was just too much. The consistency is definitely coming along nicely. I upgraded to a set of 2016 Ping G irons (from 2008 TaylorMades) and the difference in forgiveness is just ridiculous! My 1st full round with them resulted in me knocking 4 shots off my best score at my home course; an 86...! And I felt annoyed as I reckoned I'd left a fair few shots out there.
Goals for the year...I'm off 19 at the moment, but with hard I'd like to get down to 18 at least. It is do-able.
Keep enjoying it (y)

My goal for the year is to get down by 2 shots.

The wife bought me a GPS watch for Christmas but I've yet to use it. The one she bought me is proven to reduce handicaps by 2.7 shots so that's the aim.

This one records which club I hit for each shot. Fairways and greens in regulation (somehow), putts per round. The pros of all these stats are that I'll be able to go into detail and see where I can improve so I'm really looking forward to the new season.

Currently off 7 so 5 is the goal for the year but I'd love to get to 4.

Im off 8. Was a 4 about 30 years ago!

Data can help but surely only lessons and more/different targeted practice can lower your handicap?

I guess it also depends how much you currently play, practice and enter comps..

I do get some lessons but I gear my practice around the data I take from my rounds currently. The GPS watch will just make it easier than trying to remember each hole individually

7...:ROFLMAO: christ sake!

I use the GolfShot app on the Apple Watch. I like it, and it can log how far I'm hitting my clubs (by me walking to my ball then telling it that I'm there) but I always forget to do this! I mainly use it for yardages and how far to clear hazards etc.

I‘m using The Grint which is great for tracking your score, giving you rough yardages and giving you an updated handicap twice a month but I’m thinking of upgrading to the full version for shot tracking too as the stats part seems quite good. Hoping that these, along with the monthly lesson I’m having and a more targetted, structured practice routine (based on the Practice Manual by Adam Yound) will help me with my target of getting down from 20 to the low teens by the end of the summer (Optimistic I know)

Another round in the 80's on Saturday; 2 consecutive sub-90 rounds with the new irons...this is massive progress, as I'd never gone sub-90 before at my home track.

I now need to tighten up the putting (35 putts is just daft!) and there was a 9 in there on a par 5...a chuffing 9! That 87 should've been an 84. This game...:ROFLMAO:

Good stuff especially at this time of the year. If you keep ticking along now you’ll be ripping it up come the summer

35 putts is ok If you look at how bobbly the greens are and now your probably hitting more GIR and therefore have more longer putts

Hopefully. I always had issues holding the greens in the summer as I had quite a low ball flight, but these new irons seems to go higher.

With courses set to reopen from Wednesday, albeit it with heavy restrictions in place i can't wait to get out for a round whether that be 9 or 18. However, as a non member of an club i think it's going to be difficult as it looks like a max of 2 people per round with delays of 10 minutes between groups will mean that getting a tee time might be difficult initially.

Even just a bucket of balls on the range would be amazing right now, can't tell you all how much i've missed getting on the course (especially with the cricket season being all but cancelled)

Hope you all manage to get out and enjoy looking for you balls in the trees/long grass asap!

I haven't played regularly for 3 or 4 years now. My last round was on a trip to Portugal last Sepember.
I was hoping to get back into it this year as i'd been finding it difficult to get motivated about anything and thought that if I had a Saturday morning of golf to look forward to it might help me a little. Well, this covid 19 business put paid to that. I'll give it a few weeks after the courses re-open before I start up again. There's a Saturday morning swindle that I used to play in when I was a member that is still going. I'm sure that I can roll up, pay a green fee and chuck my ball in the hat.

Three rounds since lockdown and I feel like throwing my clubs in the bin!
First round I was 12 over after 9 then came back in 4 over so that was okay.
Since then I’ve been schooled by a mate who has never beaten me in 20 years (to add extra insult he was then giving me ‘advice’ and loving every minute of it!) and then blew a three shot lead going down the 18th to another mate who I’ve never lost to!
Think I’m going to leave the clubs in the garage for a few weeks!

Or just don't take it so seriously :) I played a week ago and was striking it really well on for breaking 80 before we had to stop on the 16th due to a torrential rain and thunderstorm. Went back this week and barely scraped breaking 100.

Stupid fucking game, but always want to play, especially after playing badly!

I played on Monday and was the opposite. First few holes I could barely hit the ball in the air, was +18 after 6, then remembered how to play golf and was +9 for the remaining 12. Makes no sense whatsoever....
