I've got the opposite issue, in the medal on Saturday I hit 6 drives over 280 (Garmin S60 for anyone looking for a new GPS), but only hit 3 GIR, was absolutely awful from 100 yards in.

The driver is behaving itself at the moment, but it only goes 220-250, which is me, not the driver. I'm using GolfShot via Apple Watch, which is solid, but I suspect not quite as accurate as a bespoke golf watch.

I can only dream of 280...I've gotta hit it twice to get there! ;)

Anyone got any decent tips for hitting a driver more consistently?

Been to the range a few times over the past few weeks and I’ve basically narrowed my driver options down to:

1) crushing it 300 yards to the end of the range
2) a horrific snap hook

Seems to be about 50/50 at the moment but I don’t feel like I’m doing anything differently. Perhaps turning my hands over too early?

Depends if you want to lose 20/30 yards in the pursuit of a more consistent ball strike and fairway finder or you want a chance of the longest drive but also hitting 2/3 OB every round!!

As my back and mobility get less I stand slightly closer to the ball and take the club back more slowly

I’ve lost a lot of yards but gained fairways. I hit around 75% of fairways now and I’m around 250 off the tee which is enough to get down to around 4ish I reckon, which is what I played off about 30 years ago

Ideally keep the distance and add the accuracy but that might be wishful thinking!

To be honest, I have pretty much exactly the same issue when I try and take power off, I think it stems from turning my bottom hand over slightly as I swing through (as if I’m trying to prevent a slice), whereas I need to trust myself to hit through the ball and rotate my upper body properly.

At the start of the year I wasn’t even bothering taking drivers onto the course as I had absolutely zero confidence - it’s improved massively since then so hopefully it’s just a question of practising at the range and trusting the physics of my swing rather than trying to overcorrect...

Focus on practising with a club at your feet for alignment, you probably don't need to swing as hard either to maintain the distance but keep the speed in your swing.

This could be all wrong but I was fighting a hook all round 2 week ago and changed my alignment at set up and it worked in one swing.

Sliced the driver on every hole last night so scrap that

Quickly put it back in the bag and used a 5 iron off the tee, ended up going round in 85. Really should have been lower if my putting had been on. Having been pleased to break 100 at the start of the year I’m now constantly hitting in the 80s so I’m pretty happy all things considered!

Played in the blistering heat yesterday and after a lesson during the week I developed a pull left off the tee which meant a shocking front 9. Not much better on the back 9 but somehow strung 5 pars in a row together to pull a 87 with 8 pars out of the bag for my lowest score. Putter is on fire since I changed to a claw grip so if I can just sort out the tee shots I'm confident I can start scoring regularly in the 80s

I had 4 three-putts in the first 5 holes yesterday and was ready to walk off, then brought it back on the back 9 to finish on 34 points which sits within my buffer zone, couldn't be more frustrated with this game if I tried currently.

I'd rather duff an iron shot than 3 putt such is my disdain for that phrase. I went almost 10 rounds last year without one. An hour on the putting green of good practice was all it took.

Going this evening to go and practice as I didnt get out at the wweekend.
Hoping to sharpen up my approach shots as they let me down last week. Back out to 8(7.5). Aiming to get to 5 by year end

All I can say is that if anybody stayed up to watch the US PGA last night that was one hell of a tournament, with 7 players tied for the lead on back 9 of final round.

Apart from maybe the Ryder Cup, Open and Masters, I actually find having no crowds (especially for the American tour events) increases the watching experience.

I tried to stay up but couldn't muster the energy especially with work this morning.

Agree though, from what I did watch it was far more enjoyable, and I also think any errant shots were punished more, as when there is crowds being offline isnt punished like it should be as the rough is flattened when there is crowds.

I think the Masters will be strange with no crowds though and might be hard to watch. The roars on the back 9 on Sunday are one of the best things about it.

A few of my pals played Royal Cinque Ports at Deal today.
Hosted the Open a hundred years ago, it's on the same stretch of land as Royal St George's and Prince's in Sandwich.
I played it twice a few years ago and it's the best course I've ever played. Traditional out and back links course with an absolute brute of a home stretch.

That is a top effort, 10 rounds on the bounce without a 3 putt. Not quite in Luke Donald’s class yet! Think he went 300 rounds without a three putt, or something stupid like that...

Same course, or different greens?? There are some courses I know where I’m pretty confident of not 3 putting. There are however some where it’s pretty much guaranteed I’ll have at least one unless I have a really really solid day, around 30 putts...

My home course for 6 of those rounds and 4 rounds in others. It was pleasing but then the 3 putt on the 9th in round 10.

Just looked up the record

542 holes without a 3 putt. Not bad considering some of the greens those boys have to deal with

Although I still think it’s bloody tough for us with virtually a different stimp reading on every hole we play sometimes let alone different courses!

Do any of you use any shot trackers?

I've just won a new Shot Scope V3 GPS watch and shot tracker system and can't wait to try it on the course to see if it can help me reduce my handicap. More likely I'll just see how far my average shot into the trees is and how long I spend there but do any of you use them and have any tips etc?
