Yeah, this is exactly it, I don't get angry or frustrated, even thought I've put in some poor rounds, still absolutely loving being out there playing and trying to figure out what is going wrong, I actually enjoy the challenge.

I've tried to work on smaller things, such as reduce the amount of 3 putts, improve chipping around the green, or from 100 yards improve hitting green, its gone okay.

These winter league match plays are an interesting one, I've not played this type of game where you win a hole as such, so I'm looking forward to saturday (if the weather holds up)!
You'll be lucky to get out this weekend. I'm supposed to be playing in a scramble comp on the Sunday, but the weather looks dreadful all weekend with heavy rain and gusts up to 50mph! They have said they will decide by Sat 8am, but I suspect it will be pushed to the following weekend.

Some people really enjoy match play. Like trying to get into the other persons head. E.g. give them a 3ft putt on the 1st and then make them putt out a 2ft later on when they think you're going to give it. I tend to crumble under pressure and think the other people are just questioning my handicap if I am playing well, so self sabotage

I’m okay with that kind of pressure to be fair, mind games like that, I’ll just laugh about, wouldn’t mind experiencing that for a laugh!

but yes, weekend looks like it’s going to be wet and windy

Gave my opponent a 3 foot putt on the last to halve our match last weekend

Can’t stand seeing people lose a match. I want to see people win it

These wankers that don’t give anything or try playing mind games can go fuck themselves

Win the match legitimately not by hoping your opponent misses a short putt

Lot of time for this tbh, thats how I'd like to play, good fun, meeting new folks, and enjoyable rounds.

I mean I like to putt out personally, but I'm good with having a friendly round.

I tried to give my playing partner a 3 or 4 footer on 18 last week. We were playing for a tenner and I had no idea of the points situation, and as it transpired that was for the win so he said don't be silly. He only told me afterwards that it was for the win, but it made no odds to me; we'd had an enjoyable morning and that's more important, pick the fucker up next time, regardless.

It’s a funny one because there is a big difference between a 3 footer and a 4 footer!

When do you give a putt/tell them to pick it up and when do you ask them to hole out 🤷‍♂️

3/4/5/6 foot…

A concession, once given cannot be declined or withdrawn and is final, so even if he said no and putt, it makes no outcome to the hole/match. It's just treated as practicing, which is allowed in match play

Was listening to a podcast earlier and they said they're not used to putting 'shorties' so they got really nervous over 6 footers in comps.

Who the fuck is giving 6 footers?! :ROFLMAO:

Love match play. For me it’s the best test. Medal is also great and makes you play better but in the winter team games have to be the way to go. Hate playing golf in cold, wet, muddy conditions

I’m a pretty decent golfer but never give advice, swing tips etc

I’m not qualified and everyone pretty much has there own unique swing and idiosyncrasies

My experience tells me you’re thinking about too much and the reason you’ve lost the plot is because you’re playing less and have forgotten something pretty simple that was working previously

My ‘advice’ is to get someone at the range to have a look at you - book a mini course of lessons

My last lessons 2 winters ago, I spent £100 at my local range getting a x5 course pack - he keeps it simple and I’ve seen him about 3 times in the past 10 years or so

Once you know your swing and can feel what you’re doing right/wrong at any particular time it’s a much easier fix to keep yourself ticking over but we get lazy so always good for someone qualified to have a look at you every now and again
That's good advice but i'd add one thing. Sybervision (associated with Stanford University's Neuropsychology Research Lab) did a non traditional muscle memory training program showing Al Geiberger's swing from different angles and speeds with different clubs for 60 minutes. As weird and wild as it sounds, you would plop yourself in a chair and mentally put yourself in his body for each swing. That was it. You did it before you played. It was voted years ago as one of the golf training videos by Golf Magazine's Top 100 instructors so it is real.

The theory is that the music distracts part of the brain enough that it makes it easier for other parts of the brain to assimilate his near perfect swing into your own body making mental adjustments along the way. I went from a +14 to a +9 over the next 12 or so rounds. The big change for me was one of a consistent tempo. A friend of mine who was a scratch golfer once but had risen to a +3 noticed the improvement in my swing and asked if i had been going to lessons. I confessed and he wanted to watch it himself. As he watched it, he realize that there was a problem with his wrist at the top of the swing if i recall correctly.

It doesn't replace good instruction that is specific to your swing but it does help you correct quite a few problems all at the same time. But here's the good news. You can watch it now for free on youtube. The quality is poor but even so, it is still good enough that if you can immerse yourself in the video, you just may find something you are doing wrong. One way to test it is to watch it and then hit the range immediately afterwards. And then if you watch it often enough, your improved swing becomes more repeatable.

Too wet to get out on Saturday so our normal roll-up went to the range (I hate the range!), all chucked a fiver in and played the same course (Kiawah Ocean). I came last, which is standard, but worryingly...my back, which has been threatening to play up for about a week, decided it had had enough. I was over the ball and couldn't even start the backswing; my back just wouldn't let me! Sad times, felt very sorry for myself and embarrassed tbh...I'm 43 years old FFS.

It's eased a bit since, I can function, but now worried when I'm gonna be swinging a club again, 1st world problems I know, but this game is SO important to my mental health and general wellbeing, providing that weekly/twice weekly reset.
Radox, ibuprofen, and some gentle stretching in the days ahead...

Potentially, hoping it'll ease tbh. One thing is for sure, I need to do some sort of yoga/pilates/something when I'm able to do so, as I am stupidly inflexible. Putting aside the huge quantity of yardage that is leaving on the table, something/somewhere was bound to twang at some point

Are you leaning back too much in your finish mate, as that's a really common way for back pain to appear.

Chiropractor/Physiotherapist:Osteopath - whatever works for you!

Hot then cold compressions - Anti Inflammatories.

Been there, done that, worn the T shirt so many times
So important to do a routine of stretching exercises that work for you and your back

I try and do 20mins every single day but doesn’t always happen! 🤞my back isn’t behaving too badly since I gave up cricket (bowling) a few years back

Hope you get it sorted asap
