Played The Edinburgh course at Wentworth a few days ago

Really good course, lots of doglegs - a bit more open/more forgiving rough and less of a slog than the West Course but still 7,059 yards off the back tees!!! (I’ll leave that to the youngsters) Played off the yellows 6,600, more than enough for me

Shot a 79, drove the ball well & chipped really well

The West had a member v staff day booked out. Gareth Bale & Tim Sherwood were playing…
Unreal, looking forward to when I’m hitting those scores!
Wentworth a little too prestigious for me 😂

Is that where tactics Tim is working now? 😜

You can probably tell, still new to the game (in particular the rules), but wondering if someone can help me, I've read through the rules, but still don't quite understand the match play rules for 4bbb winter league.

My partner and I are 19.1 and 17.4 handicaps - I'm the 19.1.

We are drawn against the following

6.8/7.9
10/11.1
11.8/14.9
18.1/20.6

It's a 90% handicap with a max handicap of 21, but I just don't understand how the match play in pairs works with what holes I get an extra shot on (or not in some cases), I've gone through golf forums, even read the rules and still don't understand it, so wondering if those with a little more experience maybe able to shed some light?

I've picked up stableford scoring, medal scoring, comp rules and the like this year, but this is the one I'm not sure on at the moment - such a new golfer, it gets embarrassing asking the same questions!

This is the best explanation I have found. Got a card there to help.

Had my first lesson today. Worked on getting the rotation going the right way.
I'll be honest, I struggle moving rhe body, I'm like a tree trunk and seem to have this constant half swing, still ma age to get reasonable distance, carry between 180/190 with a 7 iron even though I can't rotate that well

See Rahm's swing. As long as you're not swinging with your arms but engaging the big muscle groups you'll get plenty of distance without getting a full rotation.

Blimey that’s a lot of walking and lost balls until you learn to hit it more consistently straight!!

Shot my best competitive round of the year on Saturday in a stapleford comp - 38 points off a 4.5 handicap. Came in second and got cut 0.4

My game might just about have a 3 in it before I’d need to spend loads on lessons and change my swing etc etc + not sure I’ve got that dedication anymore

How did everyone else get on over the weekend?

Not a good one today, but just a friendly round, trying some new chipping, didn't go well!

BTW that's an incredible score, don't think I'd ever get as low as that handicap, it's seriously impressive as this is one really hard game!

Just saw YouTube with Rick Shields & Bernhardt Langer - he’s 67 and still practices for about 3hours every day. Says he knows his swing pretty well now so doesn’t have to practice for 8 hours a day anymore, like he used to

It is a tough game, but with a few lessons and then going away and practicing what they’re preaching then you’ll see great results and pretty quickly

You can’t just play and play because you just keep repeating the same poor shots and mistakes, it never works

After playing golf for 18 months, I finally achieved what I thought was the impossible.
It’s been a long old slog, but yesteday I went out for a quick 9 on my own even though I really didn’t feel up for it.
Got as far as the 16th fairway (or so I thought) and finally ran out of balls. Impressively, managed to lose 6 of the fuckers.
It’s a long shameful walk back at that point.
Fucking hate golf, going again later.

Lessons scheduled for early next year now!

Handicap has come down by just playing and practising, but I can't see myself going much lower than a 16 without lessons now.

Will enjoy the winter league matches and see how I fair in them now.

Standard weekend round for me; 32 points with 3 x blobs; a 13 over par 86.

This predominantly involved some very controlled golf, but also 2 x shanks OB in the first 4 holes with approach shots into par 4's using 9 iron and 5 hybrid respectively...which were fun. :inpain: Managed to identify cause quickly and not continue that trend...thankfully!
