Is your handicap accurate at this moment in time. If you’ve been nowhere near then surely your handicap is currently too low 🤷‍♂️

I guess it depends how often you play and/or how often you enter your rounds on England Golf - mine is pretty accurate and I’ve entered 20 rounds since July 29, so the best 8 of those are all recent and none of them are just ‘friendly’ rounds either

PS What is your definition of ‘nowhere close’ - under 30 points most of the time and I’d agree with you
I'd argue that my handicap has been too low for the whole of the summer, BUT I get why the system is in place and certainly could not show my face in the clubhouse after a 44 point round (though a lot don't seem to have that problem, or any shame ;) )
I play at least 27 holes a week and enter a card every Saturday AM at a minimum (we're politely encouraged to do so in our roll up) and whenever I'm playing with anyone midweek too.
I've had to scrap my way to get to 30 points pretty much every round for at least the last 4/5 months, normally falling between 28-32 points. I basically turn up on a Saturday AM for our rollup, chuck in my £5, then another £5 for whatever club comp that might be on that day, then another £5 on the 1st tee box when the balls are chucked in the air...! Then I grind like a fucker, make my 28-32 points, and never see a penny of it again!
So yeah, I could do with a couple of shots back tbh

Played well but still the usual what could have been, missed 3 4 footers etc etc

Winning score was 43 points but tbf he was getting 7 shots and shot level par!

A lot of that goes on...arguably too much for it to be the odd blip, IMO. Our club competitions are always won by the same lot shooting 44-48 points. Apparently one of them has been found to be double-bogeying the last 3 holes each week so as not to get cut...then cleans up at comps. Prick.

A friend of mine shot 2 over gross last week...off 11...and moaned that he got cut to 7 FFS :ROFLMAO:

Shocking! There will always be abuse, impossible to stop it

Why these ****s don’t want to play off as genuine handicap as possible, baffles me

Winning stuff when you know you’re taking the piss, is a bit odd - must have some issues

I played in our club medal weekend before last, first time I entered as wasn't too sure about the rules, guys I was paired worh were decent, but matey I played with came third, had a handicap of 20, but he was a lot better golfer than me (currently 19), think he scored an 85, net 65 (still came third), so che ked some of his rounds and cards submitted are only medals, weirdly, each of those scores low 80's, don't quite get it.

I scored a 96 in the end, which is a little higher than I've been saying recently, but I beat my lowest scored yesterday, shot an 86, which I was buzzing about, think I can get lower than that soon enough, just a different game now it's wetter, so dropping clubs, playing more direct and have worked on a couple of chipped techniques.

This game is unreal, can't get enough of it!

There is some serious natural talent in this thread! I’ve played on and off from around 16 (I’m 46 now), mostly off, I’d play for a summer or two then not play again for 8 years. Then during 2020 when lockdown lifted, golf was one of the things that you could do with your mates before the pubs opened so I started playing again and haven’t stopped this time, absolutely love it and now prefer it to football!

I’ve always wanted to break 100 regularly and over the last couple of years I’ve just about achieved that, not every single time but I’ve now got an official handicap of 26 which I’m pretty pleased about, and just today I’ve joined a nice golf club who stipulate that you must be 28 or under to be accepted.

My main takeaway and inspiration from you seriously good guys is lessons, my next step is to get more consistency out of my longer irons and to eliminate those occasional 8/9 stroke holes which can ruin your round so I’ll be booking some very soon

Yeah love this, I started earlier in the year as I stopped playing football! Tbh years of Saturday and Sunday goalkeeping at the age of 46 was becoming harder!
Since Feb/Mar when I took it up and joined a club, I’m playing at least weekly, usually twice or three times a week, so I’ve put in a fair few rounds this year now!

not played since last Sunday and itching to get out and hoping I’ll hit another good score (for me anyway).

feeling more comfortable that I won’t slow down the lower handicaps now, but the reality is, those I do get to play with who are single figure handicap don’t actually care that much, just interested in good, friendly company for a few hours, which works with me!

started the winter league at our club in a few weeks, be interested to see how that goes as I’m in a group with some seriously good golfers

Anyone have a good experience with a Iron club fitting?

It's just I've seen that Orka (decent Custom fit brand similar to Caley and Takamo) are offering a VIP special offer on 2 of their iron sets for a Cutsom fit from 5-PW (+ a 56 degree wedge) At £399 (usual price of RS1X is £899)
They also offer the best tolerances (10%) in the game and lifelong loft and lie alterations.

Never had a fitting but very tempted as I have seen the fitter (Alex something) fit several Youtube golfers and he seems very efficient/knowledgeable.

4BBB 2 stableford scores to count comp on Saturday. My team scored 81 points; reasonable, but knew we wouldn't be placed.

96 points won it...by 9 points. Fucking mental. They got booed as they collected their winnings. :ROFLMAO:

Watch what they do, and if they're open to it, ask how why they are doing it. Why are you playing that shot? Why have you chosen that club to chip/pitch with? etc. You can learn SO much just by being around them and then take their good habits into your own game. You'll probably notice they have a repeatable pre-shot routine that they have ingrained and rely on; that really helps.

Oh I probably annoy them, asking what club they are taking, why that shot… I tend to chat a lot 😂😂

If you're playing consistently a proper fitting is a real eye opener. So much is getting the right shaft for your swing. You couldn't do a full bag in one session, I'd concentrate on irons only or a wedge session or woods.

Oh I doubt that mate; go into any golf bar and you'll soon realise that ALL golfers love talking about their game ;)
Some more than others!!! Some ****s literally talk you through all 18 holes ffs

I politely tell them that’s very interesting but I don’t give a fuck - We all leave a few shots out there and shit happens

Most conversations I have on a golf course are about football anyway :)

Unfortunately I work about 15mins from Silvermere which is probably the busiest shop/club fitting centre in Europe - costs me a bloody fortune every time I go there although the outlet shop which is 40% off, is very good

I had a club fitting which was ok - my Cobra irons are good, go about 25 yards further than my old Ping i2’s

Had a seperate driver fitting and the £600 TaylorMade Stealth went 7 yards further than my 25 year old Ping driver!!! I declined there kind offer

My playing partner is such a sucker for all the latest tech. He has about 3 new sets of irons a year, 5 drivers etc. Loves all the jailbreak technology guff. He once had a Callaway driver that he couldn't miss with, I'd have had that thing delivered by Securitas in an armoured vehicle to and from the course, but he sold it to buy the latest PXG or some other crap he couldn't hit. Mental, it's an illness 🤣

Played The Edinburgh course at Wentworth a few days ago

Really good course, lots of doglegs - a bit more open/more forgiving rough and less of a slog than the West Course but still 7,059 yards off the back tees!!! (I’ll leave that to the youngsters) Played off the yellows 6,600, more than enough for me

Shot a 79, drove the ball well & chipped really well

The West had a member v staff day booked out. Gareth Bale & Tim Sherwood were playing…
