Ok, since its only one week til the mighty spurs strut their stuff at the real St James park i thought it was worth starting a thread dedicated to this momentus occasion (for Spurs obviously, Exeter City taught Brazil how to play football- true fact!)

Its our first pre-season game and i have been told that a strong team has been promised, a big crowd is expected as its nigh on sold out as far as i know so a good atmosphere is a given (as well as some yokels spouting the usual racist/random abuse that ive come to expect from my beloved ECFC fans)

  • So whose coming down to my neck of the woods to sample Spurs with a cider?

  • Who do you want to see? id quite like to see Tarby, GDS (if he even exists anymore) and others who may not make it to August just to see how much effort they put in, might be telling. Id also like to see Defoe beat his record from the Pompey game we had last season and miss more than the 127 one-on-ones.

  • Score predictions? Since im going with ECFC fans in the home end im pretty sure Spurs will lose 2-0 or something, and ill never hear the end of it.

  • How are you locals going to deal with the conflict of interests? (unless you came from Torquay, in which case go climb a palm tree or something). Im in the home end as i uaually am so will be keeping it all to a nice round of applause for everything, keeping the red out of my wardrobe and not doing anyting to antagonise the bloke thats been in the pub since 10am.

Anyway, this might be a good place for any questions to be answered by our Westcountry folk for any people who havent been down our way before.

COME ON YOU GRECIA ....NO HANG ON..... YOU SPU...... UM....... BREAK A LEG?

Do you know if they plan to have a minute's silence to mark the recent passing of their former director?

My old man's from Exeter. He used to bunk off school to watch the play and train. I've seen a few games there. Once they lost 5 footballs due to erratic shots on goals going clean over the wall behind the goal. Was quite low one end, iirc. Lucky Zoko Pops has left.

I'll be heading down from Braunton Spunky, I'm missing my class's grauduation disco (which hasn't gone down well in the staff room!) and I'll be in the away end. Actually there's quite a strong spurs contingent up here so I'd expect to see a few familiar faces.

Just thought id update any people that give a monkeys about this game, ive heard that this game is practically sold out, meaning that this will be the highest attendance of a friendly game down here since nigh on 10k turned out to goggle at Vialli making his first ever appearance as a Chelsea player (he didnt play- he had to watch- but the bench was too small so he and Gullit sat on plastic school chairs on the touchline)

That was before we re-developed the ground so i doubt there will be 10k, probably closer to 8k, but that guarantees a pretty healthy atmosphere for the lads cos im not sure many of the Grecian fans will be caring that theres nothing at stake! Should make for a game with a bit of bite compared to some other upcoming games.

And if theres any potential Danneille Lloyds in training, im guessing they will be staying at Nigel Mansells golf and country club like pompey did last season, apparently Harry is a big fan of the golf course, which is most likely the only reason he's trudging the entire team down the M4 in the first place!

As a side note, we beat Chelsea that day.

The ground is pretty much in the city centre, well just at the top of the city centre so thers a few smaller car parks about 5 mins away or a couple of bigguns in town that are no more thsan 15 mins walk. Theres a good one called The Traingle which is big and nearby, and outside so wont be closed, its located near a Vue cinema, opposite a swimming pool called The Pyramids. Thats would probably be your best bet. Id google map and give you more help but my internet is being a git and wont let me do it!

I shall be there! me and my grecian friend are driving over tomorrow afternoon and spending a few days there before coming back. my friend and his day are on pretty good terms with Perryman as they know him through the club/supporters' club so he has got us some tickets. I doubt we will be meeting with him though as im sure he is a busy man. Perryman told my friends dad that Harry said he was bringing the 1st team down which is good for everybody. Apparently Perryman phoned Harry the day he was appointed asking for this friendly.

should be a great day!

A. is a possible, but it tends to be fairly full with business parking during the day.

B. is the one spunky is referring too, that'd be my choice as well, but I think it's quite popular for the footy.

C. is the real St James'!!

As a Grecian Yid i'm well happy about this one-Only 150 home terrace tickets left, and none will be sold on the day so a sell-out it is.Harry obviously liked the fact that when he brought Pompey down here last season he played a team that wanted to play football. Can't wait!.

Ideal start - Harry

Harry Redknapp sees Wednesday night's friendly against Exeter City as the perfect start to pre-season.
It's the first of nine friendlies including Barcelona and Celtic in the Wembley Cup, a trip to China and Hong Kong and finally Olympiakos at the Lane on August 9.
The Grecians - with legendary Spur Steve Perryman as Director of Football - have achieved successive promotions and will play in League One next season.
Harry said: "I was impressed with what I saw of Exeter last season and the young manager, Paul Tisdale, has done a great job. Everyone speaks highly of him.
"I came down here with Portsmouth last summer and we had a tough match. They were very good and played some good football.
"I'll probably make 11 changes to give everyone a game and that's enough for the first friendly in pre-season. We'll then do a similar thing at Bournemouth on Friday."
The lads have looked sharp so far in pre-season training and Harry added: "Everything's fine. The lads are all working hard."
Exeter clinched automatic promotion from League Two on the final day of last season.
Our young defender Troy Archibald-Henville played for the Grecians in that game at Rotherham in May and 19 matches in total as part of his loan deal in the second half of last season.

A lot of City fans are pretty happy to hear Troy is gloing back next season, personally i thought he looked petrified and a bit lost when i saw him.

Cant wait til tommorrow, its officially sold out now as well.

Really excited. Parking is a bloody nightmare though, it has to be said. Went to a gig at a pub in the ground last week and we were driving around for a good 15 minutes looking for a parking space that wasn't for permit holders only. Hopefully most of the first team will get a run out at some point too.

Might be worth parking at Sowton and getting the train for some of you coming down the M5.
