Sad as this may sound I lost interest in England games a while back even when we had the odd Spurs player involved. Friendly games became a curse, even the more important ones too for fear of a Spurs player coming back crocked. Fast forward to tonight's game and never have I felt so proud of our 4 lads that played. They were the heart and soul of this England team and if Hodgson knows what he's doing he'll build his team around the Tottenham lads whose passion, high pressing, skill set, energy etc set them apart from the rest of the team

I'd say BBC Sport's ratings are pretty much spot-on.

It was overall a strong performance by England, especially because we showed some grit to come from behind. However, other than Vardy, none of the non-Spurs players really stood out. A few put in fairly decent (par) performances, whilst the rest were mediocre at best.

For Euro 2016, I presume Hart and Stones will come in for Butland and Cahill (didn't do himself any favours tonight). Lallana and Henderson really seem to be favourites of Roy's though, and that does worry me. Anyone else think Rooney could be our best option to play alongside Dier?
Alongside dier? Before doing that it might make sense to pull Alli back into CM and open up space for a forward line with Barkley, Stirling, Rooney, Kane, Vardy. If not I'd pick Milner as a partner, or maybe even Noble ahead of Henderson. Having said all that bet Hodgson brings back Wilshire aand picks him ahead of Dier.

Phil McNulty rated Alli as motm, and seems to think that Rose was just meh.

What a melon.

During the match I said on several occasions I couldn't decide who was our MoM Alli or Rose. Both were outstanding but I'm going for Rose, he did everything and more on his full debut.

Oh Kane and Dier well done but Vardy's goal......just WOW. As an England fan I'm looking forward to the Euro's and this young squad don't look scared. Hart get well soon, Rooney, England don't need you.

I thought both Lallana and Henderson did well personally. I'd happily take either/both.

I'd bet he doesn't. That side last night will be the bulk of his starring 11 imo

Yes, me too. I only 'watched' it on the Guardian's minute-by-minute report and still I enjoyed it more than probably any England game I've seen this century. Almost every update featured a Spurs player doing something good. I'm truly back in the England fold now after many years in the wilderness, but only as long as Hodgson plays a threshold number of Spurs players, of course. I think my threshold is two starters.

I would say it was a combination of Spurs and and Poch because Lalana was also pressing as well which was probably drilled into him back in his Southampton days.

I keep reading that it was a great fight back and belief shown by this England side, and I think that's wrong. What it actually led to us getting back into and winning this game was the mentality of our 4. They fought for everything and showed why we really could become a very special side

I always want England to lose every game but with our boys being so central to their side it is getting more and more difficult to dislike them. Hopefully all rested on Tuesday for the important League games to come. The one advantage it may give Spurs is increased confidence and belief in those that played last night.

I didn't see the match, so I may be off the mark, but all I read about it reminds me of some stories I was reading about Cryuff the other day - how he set up the tiki-taka style at Barca, which then became the Spanish style which brought about the most successful international side in history.
It's very difficult to have a team ethic in a national team made up of a bunch of sub-gallactico wannabes (e.g., the laughable "golden generation" of England who won nothing at all). Maybe an England team built around players who play for the team, with a coherent strategy and high work rate (and Spurs core of course), might be the way to forge a national team which might actually win something. Leave out the prima donna mercs and select the players, even if they look less fashionable and pick up smaller paychecks at non-"European superleague" clubs, if they'll play to the style and for the team.

I thought it was noticeable how Welbeck differed from the other forward and midfield players in how comparatively little pressing he did.
At one point he was standing ten yards off their right back and I was thinking why are you not closing him down and I realised how normal our pressing game has become now, I just expect it to happen.
I'm not knocking Welbeck its just clear that it isn't his game at Arsenal.

Alli gets rated so highly because he is a) bloody brilliant but mainly b) the shining light of future English talent. I can't think of a player in his age range having as much potential to be one of the world's best.

I can't wait to watch the Euro's with the core of spurs talent coursing through the squad. Kane vs Bale will be a particular highlight.

No chance .

Woy has played Kane 98% of England's recent friendlies . He knows about Kane's U21 summer 2016 and his overload of matches since , but isn't interested imo. He'll love the headlines , Running our players into the ground now has no downside in his eyes . The interests of Spurs in a critical situation are of no concern . He's the opposite of S Korea .

I would advise pressure on Woy from Spurs to spread the load in these meaningless friendlies .He needs our co-operation as a club and needs to be reminded of the fact . Our hierarchy tho' won't defend our players like that unfortunately imo .
