Putting aside the much deserved Spurs love-in for a second, that's possibly the first time I've seen England transferring the Prem style of energetic football to the international scene.

Typically, we're a more sombre affair in international games. There may have been flashes of our domestic game in some of the qualifiers, but tonight we looked like a generally strong English club team just going full throttle at the opposition.

I know that pre-Prem the England team used to represent the league pretty well by being physical huff and puff stuff, but I haven't seen this type of England side before; technically strong, confident, and relentless.
The worrying thing is that the players were allowed to play that way after Roy let them off their leashes and the players had nothing to lose

They played really well against France but the team needs to play like that from the beginning and Roy needs to set them up like that

The Netherlands will be a big test as we are likely to see this team

Forster
Walker - Stones -- Jagielka - Rose
Milner -- Drinkwater
Barkley
Walcott ------------------ Vardy
Sturridge

Its not silly to think we play terrible against them and our midfield struggles

Alli was incredible, and Kane and Dier will get headlines for their goals but I thought Danny Rose was absolutely fantastic tonight.

"It's the pressing, stupid".

Out of the England players on the pitch at the start, Lallana, Clyne, Kane, Dier, Alli and Rose have been to the Pochettino/Bielsa school of "two hearts" training and closing down - and Henderson and Lallana have been Klopped.

The Germans can and did press too, but in the last 25 minutes of that match, there was only one team with the stamina and the mentality to keep harrying and winning the ball. It wouldn't be an exaggeration to say that we were all over them after Kane scored. Germany played plenty of good football in the first hour, but we nevertheless created enough chances to have scored a goal or two. Then we took over the game, by stages, and from the time Vardy scored, we controlled the rest of the match.

You have to conclude that there is a younger sub-generation of players, many of them trained by Pochettino at one stage or another, who have a different approach, mentally and physically, to winning football matches. And Hodgson has to decide whether to trust them to reproduce it under the pressure of an international tournament. It isn't straightforward, but there is an argument (which he will be having with himself) that a lot of what has been wrong with England for the past 26 years has been in the players' heads. And these young players no longer have that problem.

I don't normally wear Spurs-tinted glasses. The best players in the England team this evening were all Tottenham players, along with Vardy's key cameo.

Wonder if anyone has reminded Southgate that he left Dier out of his final squad for u21's ;last summer....
That u21 squad was atrocious...
But this England team was refreshing. Just a friendly, but I would take more of that. Not just the score, but the pressing and the desire to actually play football. Slick passing and good movement.

Perhaps not enough clear cut chances in first half, but encouraging.

Great to see the team playing in an English style again. You probably wouldn't get away with playing like that in Brazil, but it could definitely work in Russia in a couple of years.

So what's the team going to be v Netherlands - is Roy going to rest the whole starting X1. If so think these are the players he's going to start with - not necessarily completely how they will line up !.

Forster
Walker, Jagielka, Stones, ??
Milner, Drinkwater
Barkley, Wallcott
Vardy Sturridge

Anyone else ? Has he called up any other LB's ?

Or is he going to be stubborn and start the same X1 again ?

Walker can't dribble and can't cross, he's also passive and gives opposing defenders an easy time, he'll be comfortably dealt with in tournament football.

Defensively he's better than Clyne but the cross for Vardy's goal and the stepover and cross shortly afterwards are things that Walker can't do.

It's a dilemma.

Agreed. I thought CLyne was shit first half but was excellent second half. Maybe he remembered what it was like playing with Poch players and lifted accordingly?:D

Generally think international friendlies in the middle of the season are a nuisance. But I'm really proud of our boys tonight, Kane, Alli, and Dier will get the headlines, but I also thought Danny Rose played really well tonight.

Title says it all. Tonight in parts this England team played like Spurs. Pressed high and didnt allow the Germans to breath at times spearheaded by Kane and Supported by Alli, with Dier and an energetic Rose doing well from the back! 2 and should have been 3 on the scoresheet away in the World Cup champions own back yard!! Get in
