Happy for Harry Winks. How come everyone is playing better for their International sides and not for us? ARGHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Declan Rice - I still dont see it. He is just like bland rice - meh!!!
Like Plain Rice rather than something more exotic like Basmati or Thai?

There's not many big names in the England team anymore are there? Probably only Kane and Sterling?

Plain boring boiled rice... none of the exotic stuff... then again all rice is meh. Infact he is wholegrain rice... (although I do like wholegrain rice) hmmmmmmmm

Winks offers far more even if in a DM position. I think many offer far more. He isnt worth is it 80m bandied about?

Really young squad though. Don't think you'd be able to say that in 2-3 years time.

Sancho, CHO, Chilwell, TAA are all going to get better and better.

I dunno about big names as such but I do like our depth in attacking options.

Kane and Abraham as centre forwards

Quite a few wide attacking players with Sterling being our top one and Sancho, Rashford and Hudson-Oddei (who oddly I’d forgotten about for England!).

Playmaker-wise I do like look of Maddison and felt he should have played more over rice.

Engine room-wise Winks adds some nice passing to midfield we were missing at last World Cup and looking forward to see Loftus-Cheek back too with Oxlaide-Chamberlain another nice option. We are lacking a quality holding midfielder though as Rice still not 100% convincing and Dier is not too hot there nowadays.

Full back looking good too, Alexander-Arnold is a really good player as is Wan-Bissaka and Chillwell coming along well at left back, although we could do with another left back.

The one place we’re not too hot though is centre back. Maguire seems our best centre back and hoping Gomez fulfils his promise as personally reckon he do better for Liverpool than Loveren (although I think when for Matip would get nod over either).

Keeper-wise Pickford and Pope are good enough I feel, maybe not Seaman-quality but they’re good enough.

Lovely to see all the praise for Harry Winks' first touch, it for all the world to me that he misscontrolled it perfectly but what do I know. :)
Well played Harry.(y)

He definitely miscontrolled it. You can just tell by how he moved after he touched it whilst knowing where the ball was going to be after he touched it - if that made any sense whatsoever

Still good improvisation

I wasn't being negative with that comment, it was just an observation that we've got less household names than years gone by. I like what Southgate is doing with this team. He's constantly giving new players a chance no matter who they play for and how fashionable they might be. I think we'll need a bit more experience in the finals, but as it's effectively a home tournament next year that might not be as big a factor as it could be.

Foden, Nelson, Gomes, Greenwood, tons of phenomenal young players coming through too

Alexander Arnold has had a terrible game. Wish he played like this for Liverpool!

Edit: I see I’m not the only one to spot it!

So what do you think Southgate's team is currently? I think it's very close to being clear with 1 or 2 decisions

I reckon his team is

Pickford
Trent Stones/Mings Maguire Chillwell
Ox Hendo Winks
Sancho Kane Sterling

I think Sancho will get in because of how good Sterling is on the left blocking Rashford. The midfield dilemma is interesting I think we lack a truly great DM meaning that we will likely see Hendo and Winks therefore we are leaving some quality attacking midfielders on the bench in Dele/Maddison.
