Pickford

TAA

Walker
Stones
Konsa

Trippier

Rice
Mainoo

Bellingham

Kane
Toney/Watkins

or drop Bellingham back for Mainoo and start Palmer, Kane, Gordon. *Saka could play LWB over Trippier*

3atb is fine would fit our players better, or just bloody play Gordon LW and foden 10, Bellingham back next to rice.

Per Dorsett - in addition to 3 at the back, Foden and Bellingham would play as 10s behind Kane.

Ok yes blood please, this would work much much better!

Pickford

TAA
Walker
Stones
Konsa
Saka

Rice
Mainoo

Foden
Bellingham

Kane

🏆

Now that team and formation I can see us going all the way with, not the unbalanced square pegs round holes foden LW tripper LB TAA/Gallagher CM 4-2-3-1 bs he’s been trying.

What is this obsession with playing Saka on the left? And at wingback no less.

He's a right winger, and it pains me to say it but a quite effective one.

I have no problem with a change in system but play players who are suited to it. It's basically changing the formation but having the same issues.

Kane, Bellingham and Foden are all best taking up very similar positions. It's still a case of trying to ram all of our best players in the team.

Same fucking Southgate ideas, and it won't work.

Actually more on this...

With this formation you have just TAA on the right, firstly he's not a winger or even a player who can beat a man, so we have absolutely no width on the right.

Saka on the left with who ahead of him? Foden? The idea that Saka and Foden can actually create width on the left is also optimistic in the extreme.

Bellingham, Foden and Kane is just another Scholes, Lampard and Gerrard.

Southgate has fucked it before he started with his squad choice.

But anyway who are the runners in behind in this formation? How are we going to get crosses into the box, it's imo insanity.

Thought he did fine there in the last game. It's more just because some width is needed on that side and Saka can stay wide and offer an outlet on that side, and do an ok just defensively. He hasn't really torn up any trees as a right winger (Palmer has looked better than him by and large).

He's been the only one that's actually created much or offered a threat.

Palmer has looked better (arguably), because he is a better player. I'd put him in the side.

What is your idea of width on the right? Let's just say we manage to create width on the left, imo we have the same problem, one sided.

You need to create partnerships all over the pitch, in this side I see none.

For example, Saka and Palmer, Gordon and Foden, Kane and someone who makes runs etc..

It's just another way of shoehorning all your players into an 11.

Trent is a better outlet on the right than Walker imo. It doesn’t look like the same Walker who was flying down the touch line under Poch. From that position Trent’s passing can be threatening, plus it’s more about just having someone out in the wide area just to create more space in the middle for the more creative players.

it’s not perfect but it’s a lot better than what Southgate has been trying so far. And the fact that it gets all the best players in the team in their correct positions (except Saka) is a benefit.

He started his career playing at left-back, and is very left-footed - so, given the lack of other LB options in the England squad, it's hardly surprising that people want to see him play there.

I’d still go walker in that wing back position over Trent though, walkers pace works both ways and would have him defensively helping over Trent all day long.

Myra Trent had an accurate pass, but walker can still bomb on last players.

Scenes on here when we see Southgate's idea of ripping up the plan is merely a Coldplay inspirational set rather than Ed Sheeran.

When Southgate has played a back 3/5 previously Walker has always been RCB and not RWB. He's always worked as the last line of defence with his pace in that system.

I still think that's the right call.

Yeah he has in fairness, I don't mind giving all that a go though, maybe a little radical for Southgate, as in, if its not working, he won't k ow how to get out of it!

In view of today’s political events, we now have a Labour government. In 1966 we had a Labour government.
Need I say more.

3 at the back should have always been a strong option, particularly given our left back situation.
I thought something similar to the Man CIty set-up would work.
JP - KW JS MG(EK) - KM DR - BS PF JB AG - HK

Two things that worry me. Firstly, he should've tried it more often in friendlies and against Slovenia in the final group game. Secondly, he won't set up like above, he'll likely have wing-backs and I'd be concerned a back 3 becomes a back 5, particularly if we take the lead.

Either been out or had mates over to watch the last 3, but I'm looking forward to watching this one from the comfort of my own living room. I enjoy the atmosphere of going out for games, but I can't be arsed with idiots who haven't watched a football match since the 2022 World Cup telling me "Kane is past it" at least twice every half.

Shame it isn't the 8pm KO, got to contend with the kids running around.

Well, Shaw if he's actually alive, but failing that and if we are playing with wingbacks, Gordon.

If we're going 4 at the back Gomez, he has played there many times for Liverpool and comfortable.
