As a young man I played cricket and football at Sunday league level but no matter how hard I tried I could get nowhere near pro or top amateur level . when older and started going to the pub I played darts to county level and had played at different times many of the then top players Bristow /Lowe / Wilson etc lost a lot more than I won but was able to give them a good game . I am sure that if I did not have to work and then able to practice 4or 5 hours a day I could along with many others been able to challenge these top players .
And that is my problem with darts with most sports you can practice as much as you like but the top players are special and you could not in your wildest dreams be a pro . My problem with darts is calling it a sport for me it is a skilled pastime where practice makes perfect.
Mainstream sports you can practice as much as you like unless you are that one in a thousand you won't make it .

BDO in the shitter.

BDO cut World Championship prize money by 50% amid dismal ticket sales

In an explosive letter dated 30 December 2019 to the players – including Sherrock – British Darts Organisation chairman Des Jacklin admits:

  • Ticket sales across all sessions are currently at only 15 per cent of capacity
  • TV contract income has been swallowed up by “production costs”
  • And sports marketing agency Sportotal say they have struggled to attract new sponsors because the BDO is considered “toxic.”
Mirror Sport understands the total prize fund could be decimated from a proposed £354,000 to just £150,000.

Jacklin says in his letter: “As a player, you need to reflect on how you will react to this disappointing news.

“Regardless of the fact that we may not be able to guarantee the prize funds as first indicated... you will still be willing to honour the participation agreement and grace the BDO and audiences with your presence.”

That last part is priceless.

???

Difficult to pick a winner this year.
Lots of different tournament winners throughout the year and having no crowd makes a massive difference.
Don’t think it will be MvG, but can’t see Wright or Anderson either.
I’m going with Price or Smith

Edit: just seen the crowd. Does seem like GCSE exams being sat.
Are they allowed people in on 27-30th seeing as that’s when the tiers are effectively ruled out??

Chizzy blowing MVG away at the moment, but even at 4-0 you wouldn’t rule out a huge comeback

Obviously I dont know Price or his character but I have never known a sportsman ( I use the word sport loosely) who came across as being so aggressive he seems like he wants to fight everyone he looks a real charmer .
But he is probably nothing like his personna.

I can’t stand the ****, he’d never of won that if there was a capacity crowd there, he gets dogs load of abuse from the crowd and rightly so imo. I personally can’t stand him, all the gamesmanship he does fucks me off. And the fact if he was made of chocolate he’d eat himself, short arsed ****

He’s a classic panto villain and, by all accounts, he’s completely different off the stage. Remember the 90s and early to mid 00s when darts had personalities?
Doesn’t exist so much anymore and I think Price and his antics just bring some of that back.
I think he would have won with the crowd in there too... What he does is not really that different to MVG.

Grand Slam Darts and Fallon Sherrock through to the quarter finals. She can go far.
Just been watching for the last 2-3 years but hell I love it. Great tv sport and I've also started playing myself.

It’s such a great game to play, I hit 2 x 180’s playing for the nags head last night, still buzzing about it

Why are they constantly singing about Spurs?
Seems to happen at every tournament. I went to one night of the Premier League in Milton Keynes earlier this year and it was just the same. Knob heads, and most supporting clubs with no distinguishable rivalry with us e.g. Luton, Northampton.
