I thought Luka was disappointing this year, for what ever reason if we cant get the best out of him and we can get 35mill or so, then I think its good business and we should get some one who wants to play for us.

But like JJ said, we need big money and we need it early so we can get a world class replacement.

Replacement(s)

I know what is going on Spuvert but you can educate the rest of the site ;)

Tell them they can have him for 50 million cash and by next week so we can start getting our players in!!
Getting our players in to replace Modric or getting our players in such as Vertonghen, Strikers and other targets? I hope we are not relying on sales until we do our business this summer. It will end up the same way as last summer. No investment this summer and i think i may well give up on Levy.

Looking at the accounts we should spend around 20 to 30 mill on players plus what we generate

I was just wondering what the goal tending situation is?

Friedel is still good, but he's getting on in age for sure.

Gomes is probably going to be sold to QPR rather than walk away for nothing, and the rest of the back ups... well there is a reason they are on the bench.

Are Spurs targetting a new keeper this off season? And if so (aside from the Green rumours) any sort of hint at who they might be looking at?

Same for strikers. With all the players released I think 2 strikers are left? Any hints at all over strikers? I'm trying to keep up, but you guys are far more informed than I am.

God I hope this doesn't end up like the Berbatov fuck up... ie if he does go, I hope we don't leave it to the last minute and get royally screwed again. It would be good if (and we may well have) set a deadline for those Manc ****s to make their best bids, or he stays. I realise that it's not that simple, but it leaves us completely screwed otherwise. We need a replacement for him - no question. Hudd can play some games, but we really need a busy, ball-playing midfielder.

This is the first time I've had an uneasy feeling this window... not liking it.

I would really rather him go to Spain than stay in PL and start scoring goals - but $$$ rules the day and I get that.

Ramble over.

Is there any ITK on Samir Handanovic? I haven't seen much about him on SC being that the Metro is running an article that we are interested. He looks the real deal an we need a replacement before Friedle dries up.

We've been saying that for like 3 windows now though :(

I've broken this down on multiple occasions, but it gets lost in the daily turnover. Coming into August 31st of the last window, Harry had spent 103 million pounds and recovered 40 something via sales (the percentage was 43%). Since Levy has taken over he has consistently run the window based on 68% recovery of funds to sales. Harry came at a time when the market kind of collapsed and he's had a hard time selling on our players who aren't going to clubs who pay more. Not his fault, but he's stuck with that. This is why the funds slowed down dramatically the past two years.

But then Pav/Crouch and Wilson were sold and that low 43% return rate shot to 70%. Now we are back to Levy's working policy. This means we can expect a certain amount available (average seems to be around 17m + a portion of sales which would be above 12m.....so if Modric goes for 32, Harry gets 20, but after that Levy could give him all sales. Probably not)

This is a historical pattern. So by no means is it 100%. But it should both allow us to breathe easier about spending and get an idea of what is available in cash. And the CL money was spent on wages. But it was spent. And to be fair, it was spent wisely as there is a statistical correlation between wages and final table position and none between transfers and FTP

I don't think we will sell Modric. I reckon he will still be our player come the new season.

Also if JJ is saying Levy will sell to United for £35-40m then I don't think he'll be going to United. I don't see them offering that.
They have looked at (as I mentioned in an email to you before) at a Player plus cash basis.
SAF really wants Modric and in future he wants Bale as LB/LM although he has other options.
With Chelsea getting Hazard and looking for Hulk, they have signaled their intent for next season. The competition is getting tougher and Fergie knows he needs to sign some top players to keep Man U challenging.
In regards to Modric, rumours (and probably logic) says he wants to go and win things...he wants higher than top 4 and wants trophies and medals and cannot see this happening at THFC. He has given his best (IHO) and wants better. He will not sign new contract at THFC. I think if we sign top players, he may change his mind but currently from what I hear, he wants to go!
Spurs (and this should be checked with JJ) have looked at Lloris and Stekenlenburg - Remy - LD.
Vert is only a matter of time...and then a young player in the Dutch League.

Total Croatian exodus this summer then. Sad as Harry rightly rates Croatians for their excellent technical skills and winning mentality.

Sounds from the "tell them 50m cash" that that is a figure that would get the deal done now. While the below 30m bid apparently being discussed is not enough to do business. Recalling the Berbatov transfer, which involved numerous bids rising in value by about a pound at a time, this is going to drag and drag. Interesting that JJ seems to think the mood is "let's get this done" as I'm sure Levy will fight hard to squeeze the maximum money possible. Especially having "won" one game of chicken with United over Berbatov.

The sense of satisfaction we all felt having eventually forced United to pay over 30m for Berba when they said they wouldn't go over 20m all summer was worth it...? Wasn't it...? I recall sitting watching GDS play the lone striker role with Darren Bent working the channels while we slumped to a loss at Middlesbrough, Berbatov sulking on the bench. In hindsight that cost us so much. But then it made us 10m quid.

It'll be interesting to see whether Levy pursues the same approach again as if so it means he doesn't regret the Berba situation. I fancy Harry would go ballistic if it happens to him. Ramos lost his job partly as a result of the fallout, after all.

I completely agree. If ManUre (or anybody else - except Chelski, no deal for them) want him, then put the word out that it's the highest bidder over the figure we want, with the deal to be concluded by a deadline of our setting (end of June perhaps). If it isn't done, then he stays.
