I completely agree that to have an English team fielding 11 foreign players is wrong and damaging to our game. If that makes me xenophobic, then fair enough.

There are some decent English players out there too.

You know other xenophobic idiots ? well done.

They have and have had English players since. The currently have quite a few (Gibbs, Wilshire, Ox-Ch, Walcott, etc) and are as poor as they have ever been.

Must have really took the gloss off Ricky Villa's wembley goal for you, him being a foreigner and all.

Seriously, have you gone mental? I'm suddenly a racist idiot for wanting to have some homegrown English players at my football club?

As for that last bit - ok conversation over you've lost it bigtime tonight.

Not the thread for it boys.

It's 2 in the morning. I reckon it's probably ok to go a bit off topic for a moment when it's fairly quiet.

Not sure where I stand on this really. I like us having British players. At one point two or three years ago we could have fielded a first eleven made up entirely of British footballers. However more than that I want good players playing for us. I wouldn't play Defoe ahead of Soldado just because of his nationality, for example.

On the other hand I want to see us give our homegrown talent a chance. I was gutted when we sold Caulker as I think he's a future international that will improve significantly. I'd also like to see young players like Carroll, Townsend, and Kane given a chance.

I guess a lot of it comes down to the poor state that English football is in in general. There's certainly a lot less English quality about these days.

Then again maybe that's because none of them get a chance to develop on the big stage.....arrrggggghhh!!! My head hurts. Spinning around more times than Parker in an otherwise promising break forward.

Been thinking about how FFP comes into play here: if the sums are done based on profit vs expenditure over three years, it makes sense to spend big now and clear some deadwood then sell Bale at a big profit NEXT year as that deal would tie us over for another big spend (if needed) for next year and the following year. If we spend big and make a big profit this year, it leaves us with no opportunity to splurge again in the future.
Because this would mean keeping Bale, I choose to believe it.

Even as an American I'd like to see an English core, preferably home grown as a key part of the team. It's the one thing that truly makes football great relative to American sports, the local club being a representation of a community and not just a group of 20-30 men forming a monopoly to start a league to make money. It still matters, not as much as it did, but something is better than nothing. And nothing is worth selling your soul, be it how Arsenal did it, or how Chelsea and City have.

Agree - its why college (American) football and association football are my favorite sports.

they did this as a counter to Phil Knight (Nike) and Oregon. Since the owner of UA went to Maryland, he decided to see if they could sway recruiting as more kids would go there if the uniforms were edgy. This hasn't worked great because their coach is an idiot and doesn't know what he's doing. What Kevin Plank did with Maryland would never happen anywhere else.

I would venture to guess UA has no where near the marketing budget to justify a naming rights deal with Spurs if we are assuming the sponsorship would be £30 million or more a year. Talking to an expert in the field (and one of my best friends who used to work as a Marketig executive for UA but now works for Chobani), he suggests a well run company wouldn't spend more than 8% of their marketing budget on a naming rights deal. He actually said he would be shocked if UA put that much money into a stadium deal but then again he did leave tree 16 months ago.

And even though we don't have Dempsey any more, I think the move back might help up as it keeps being talked about his move from us, so getting our name noticed more.

If you look at the NBC website results for fans picking a PL team show (the last time i looked) the the number one choice is Spurs at 19%. This is relevant as NBC now have secured the entire PL rights through 2018. They are advertising wall to wall which i guess is to be expected given (i think) the 350 million they gave the PL for the rights. Every mother fucking game live and better coverage between games than Fox. So, though i only get chance to see Spurs in the flesh a dozen or so times a season, i can now sit back and see every freaking game irrespective of which side of the pond i am on and also see EL on Fox.

Aint' life grand!

Down from the high I saw of 24%. We need to organize a campaign to boost the numbers up.

Well i last looked a few days ago though i do follow NBC and World Soccer on my Twitter. They tend to be as quick with info as SSN.

Changed from Direct TV to Comcast so i hope to fuck the coverage it better, plus i won't have to listen to that arsehole Barton telling every fucking man and his dog how good the bar codes are.

I'm very happy to see some new coverage, I always thought the Fox Soccer Channel was pretty poor. Plus I had to pay $15 a month for FSC and NBC Sports is free. And not only is it free, we'll get a high quality stream or TV feed for every Spurs game. It's finally paying off to be a Yank.

Is it? That is disappointing. I assumed you could also just watch via your browser, is that not the case? I ordered a Chromecast so I could move the stream to TV even easier. In retrospect I probably should have tried to stream something first lol.
