Everyone in the league is restricted by FFP (or namely, profit and sustainability/short-term cost controls).

We've already spent (including Lo Celso commitment) over £100m this season net, without costs in changing coaching staff, so it's completely plausible. No one else is doing anything of note so far, so no idea why it's treated as if we're outliers.

We could spend 500m if we want and still be well within FFP.
In fact last calculation I did was we could (although wouldn't advise) easily spend over a billion (if we had cash available) and remain within. Remember we have made massive profits over last few years, and stadium costs (depreciation, not capital value) gets added back, and player acquisitions are depreciated over life of contract.
Certainly it is not FFP that is restricting us, possibly covenants on borrowing, or just as likely willingness to spend.

Thanks!
Dont sound to good with bruno Fernandes then :/

What's the difference if we buy now or in summer ? It's a new year and new bookings ? (Not directed towards you) or how does it work in the football world? When is "start" and "end " of 1 financial year?

We save 6 months of wages if we sign in summer ?

Ffp shouldn't be a reason... We hadn't spent in the previous 2 windows. So taking our spend last season over a 2-3year period we fine... Hence some surprise on the financial restrictions news from ITK. We just not ambitious as a club. We appear happy to tick over and get CL football season after season.

I read that we are amateurs in the window when in fact our new manager wants to rebuild the whole team with different players to previously what we looked at under MP and as he has been here only 2 months its a change in direction. So we cant or wont exactly go out and buy a whole new team in January!
His team will revolve around Tanguy who he believes is top class. Add in Harry Sonny Alli Toby Hugo and you have the spine
Slowly things will evolve but i fear not at the pace for a lot of people on here but that is the reality.
Please do not post this anywhere else.
I also can concur with the others when they say that we are now actively looking at bringing in players especially in midfield.
Thank you

Thanks JJ
Think MP had already alluded to the need to make wholesale changes but didnt get the chance to get very far. Under him think trasition would be smoother.
Think JM wants to make seeeping changes now He has different way of playing to MP and some players will not fit in both system's

I believe this goes with what José was taking about on setting up for this “cycle”. Thank you for the information JJ.

It’s the Hugo bit that worries me.
If he is part of the spine I think we’re in trouble.

Re JJs info.

With all due respect to JJ does Jose need many different players? So he rates Tanguy and the spine of the others are already there. The fact Rose, Eriksen, Wanyama et al were on the way out makes no difference if Poch is in charge or Jose.

Nor the fact we need to replace those that include fullbacks and predominantly a DM. I understand a change of manager may change the targets somewhat but the positions are going to stay the same?

We all understand that things aren't going to happen in just one window but we all hope some decent progress is made in January.

We've known Rose has wanted to leave for years. We've known the problem at RB for some time too. The fact Jose came in Nov doesn't alter that.

Thank you for the calm voice of sense and reason, in what was becoming a storm of moaning and discontent, it is a much appreciated ray of light.
I still have faith in the club but the current mindset on here can be contagious!

Looks like it will be evolution not a revolution, still better than signing nobody I guess. Couple of good signings in summer and we can be good again, especially without Europa competitions. More important that we get good players and don't settle for the likes of N'kudou, N'jie etc. Tanguay is top class, just needs to get healthy and work on his fitness.

Evolution is fine by me.

For example if we were to sign a starting DM in this window.

A couple of fullbacks in the summer.

I'd be happy with that. But if the outcome of this window is a Gedson loan to cover Sissoko and a Striker loan to replace Kane its just not good enough.

We need to be moving forward. Not standing still and irrespective what JJ says it cannot be argued that we've stood still in many windows of recent past. But lets see whar the window brings.

While I get your points re still needing a RB and LB what type of attributes in players we are looking for in those positions has likely changed as Jose has different opinions than Poch so thats effectively starting from scratch again. Also Jose could be placing more emphasis on different positions than maybe Poch did so could be a case that Poch was willing to spend X on a DM but Jose will only spend Y so that he can spend the difference on a striker etc

Bringing in a new manager when we effectively need to buy at least half a starting 11 (if not more) was always going to impact on time to do it.

Unfortunately it is going to take a long time to try get back to where we were even 2 years

Things will evolve but at a pace that some will be unhappy with? Count me in those people who are unlikely to be happy with the pace of evolution in the squad in the short-to-medium term unless Levy drastically changes his spots. Personally, I'm done giving THFC any of my money until the club are focused on winning football matches and trophies as their top priority above all others, which I don't think it has been for some time.

Like I stated, I'm sure targets for those positions may well have changed. But we've had at least two months to research and understand those targets. Jose would have known those targets for much longer. This job was in the pipeline for a long time. I'm not sure it's really starting from stratch. The need for a top quality RB for example is going to roughly bring around similar targets as we are looking at the upper tier of players in those positions.

You maybe right re preferences over positions but is it really going to be that different. I mean would Jose want to spend big on another striker. Himself and ITK contradicts that. But I do get what you mean. We just want to see progress don't we.

JJ's post doesnt really calm me if I am honest. I remember him saying "Jan will be fun" well 2 potential loans and waiting to summer isnt my definition of fun.

Weve needed a DM, RB and LB for 2 years now and they havent been sorted. Thats negligence. To say we now have to wait another window to sort any of these is embarrassing regardless of if we have switched Managers and back room staff. Im not expecting to get all those positons sorted in Jan but at the very least 1 should be. 2 loan signings because of injuries mean they replace existing players rather than add to the squad and fill the holes. That is not how you progress.

Summer will be more excuses and more disappointment. The standard pattern of very positive ITK which slowly morphs into negative info and excuses has already begun and we arent half way through the month yet lol. This is by no means a dig at ITK as I appreciate the info, Im just feeling let down again by the club.
