As much as I think Giroud is the best striker from the bunch, I still think Chelsea will never sell to us. Even if they bring in a striker. Why would they strengthen their top 4 rival?

Just looked at the Brescia team and my god they are horse shit. No wonder they’re 20th in Serie A.

If Balotelli can bag a goal every couple of games there, where he’s getting little quality service coupled with racial abuse from opposition fans on a regular basis, I imagine he could do pretty well with service from Aurier, Sess, Son, Dele, Steve and GLC.
It warms my cockles how much you want Mario to sign.
It would be beautiful chaos. I’m on board!

Giroud I’d be ok with for a few months, he’s not one of the ex gooners who was cocky or gobby etc so I’d be ok welcoming him. Very good hold up player and can score a few goals. Like many here though, not sure Chelsea would sell to us.

Balotelli - whenever I think of him, I think of this quote from Jose:

“I could write a book of 200 pages of my two years at Inter with Mario, but the book would not be a drama – it would be a comedy,” the tactician said.

“I remember one time when we went to play Kazan in the Champions League. In that match I had all my strikers injured. No Diego Milito, no Samuel Eto’o, I was really in trouble and Mario was the only one.

“Mario got a yellow card in the 42nd minute, so when I got to the dressing room at half-time I spend about 14 minutes of the 15 available speaking only to Mario.

“I said to him: ‘Mario, I cannot change you, I have no strikers on the bench, so don’t touch anybody and play only with the ball. If we lose the ball no reaction. If someone provokes you, no reaction, if the referee makes a mistake, no reaction.'

“The 46th minute – red card!”

Piatek sailed.

Jose seemingly going to United.

Chelsea won’t sell us Giroud.

Can’t see anyone sanctioning Balotelli, more likely sectioning Balotelli.

Llorente does strike me as a last minute option.

I think that’s about as good as it gets and we’ll probably end up with neither

We had everything agreed with Piatek, then Hertha came in with a bid to buy him. We were offered the same deal but he was seen as a risk. JM would like Giroud, as he will be able to slot straight in and is ok with being back up. It's doable, and not the only one that is. We don't want to shell out lots on a striker that will hardly play, and could hold back TP in the long term.

Trix - this isn't aimed at you but the info.

I hate this thinking - a striker that won't play. I get Kane is the man but even he needs somebody to keep him on his toes. Why not a flexible forward? We've been after similar before. Christ we almost signed Dybala and Martial before that.

We need another striker. That is fact. Jose has said it. It's another that is several windows too bloody late.

I recall that was fact checked and found to be something of a fictional anecdote, but that's not to say it isn't plausible!

Giroud is a real physical bastard who can hold off a defender or two. The issue is that his finishing isn't all that great. I used to lol at the gooners when he was there because he would miss a couple of decent chances most games.

Just saying we need to be aiming higher than balotelli and giroud neither are good enough for us in my opinion and we shouldn’t just be looking for a stop gap until kane is back. We need someone so when kane is fit we can rest him and not keep running him into the ground. I wouldn’t be looking at past it veterans
Who do you suggest then? Jimenez? Origi?Jesus? Mueller? Costa? It’s easy to be critical of our apparent choices when you’re not the one having to choose and make the financials short and long term work. Armchair Chairmen.

Balotelli is 29. Prime.
Not a terrible recent I jury record.
Capable striker.

It is.

Just shows a real lack of strategic planning from the very top.
It could show a lack of planning... Or it shows a club that won’t waste £30m on signing Piatek who isn’t premier league proven which is prudent. It shows a club that won’t just take a big money player like Bale back without making him fit to the clubs financial model.

I actually think it’s excellent planning to make solid deals in January where possible and keep the powder dry for bigger fish in the summer window.
