That was not a question to trix if that’s how it looked, just meant we have had months to possibly sort a deal out for bale so no reason for it to go on until the last week of the window. Just seems like another player we really tried for but just run out of time
Statements like this annoy me, as it puts some sort of pressure/expectation of the ITK to be 100% representative and the pure and direct feed right into Levy's synaptic clefts. I don't know but I think it's pragmatic to assume that the variety of ITK guys have different sources from all sides of football (and some have eluded to this from time to time), and so they share what they know from what is provided at the time with the best intentions, but with the caveat that things can change (as Stoof has also suggested).

So, just because someone has info that something is the case 2 days ago, doesn't mean that the information was immediately syphoned at broadband speed from the source. For all we know, the club might have been in dialog (formal or otherwise) for months. It isn't the first time we've heard the link, and so this might be a stage in a process that's been baking for a year or more. There are lots we don't heard of due to it being kept under wraps - for example, I think the first we knew about de Jong was him saying he'd rejected us the previous summer...?

This. Just look to Liverpool; they waited for van Dijk to be available, and I don't think they regret it.
Better to wait until summer, if the players we want isn't available now.
But they were still getting in the Champs League at the time. We're at significant risk of not getting top 4

The problem is that we have an outside chance of getting fourth, however we massively miss a CDM who can shield the CBs, ( dier looks really poor and wanyama is crocked) and that could well be the difference as our other midfield options aren’t bad so I think if we scout well enough there are players out there than can make a difference and give us that stability that might just help us push on.

Gedson says "Hi".

Seriously though, if there isn't a decent DM available (if Jose even wants one), then I'd rather wait til summer than buy in any old shite.
Aurier is playing well, so that lessens the need at RB.
ITK has also said that if players leave, there may well be other signings.

A striker is an absolute must.
I agree but there is also a part of me that thinks there must be a defensive midfielder out there that is attainable, we don't need a world beater in that position to drastically improve us IMO. What I could understand more is (like you say) just the need to move players on before doing so as we just brought in Gedson, still have Wanyama on the books and still have Lo Celso, Ndombele, Dier, Winks and Sissoko in those positions. So with everyone fit we have either 7 people competing for 2 positions of 7 competing for 3. Depending on where Jose sees Sissoko primarily playing too. That's quite full.

I'm also not sure how much Jose wants one or at least wants one this January. We've barely been linked with such a player.

I think you're being unfair to a lot of folks on here with this statement. Most people (I said most) on here can think for themselves but choosing to believe ITK shouldn't be something people should be scalded for, same goes for doubting it.

Bale is rediculously complicated. Financials are crazy and all three parties want a completely different deal. He is open to leaving but this isn't going to get past the enquirey stage unless things change dramatically on at least 2 sides.

At least there has been communication this time.

Piatek is the primary push as things stand. Won't be anything else then unless someone leaves.

Inter looking at alternatives to Eriksen, although they are making sure we are aware of that.
Thanks Trix the Bale transfer isn't really that complicated to understand from what you have said. Basically the conclusions I am drawing from what you have said are that Real Madrid and Bale want drastically different amounts to what Levy is prepared to offer or even compromise on. We all know that is probably the reason why it is unlikely to progress beyond the stages you have mentioned, the only crazy description is more related to how wide the discrepancies are, so the two you say have to change dramatically for it to happen are most probably Bale and RM. I.e unless they drastically lower their demands it goes no further.

I think Spurs fans understand this the most, or at least those that frequent SC. How many times a window do transfers change quickly? Yesterday we were signing Bale, today we're not. Last window was Dybala. Tomorrow it'll be someone else.

What I think people find frustrating is that our transfer policy/structure is all over the place. None of what we do makes sense most of the time. Of course there's always stuff going on in the background, but whats happening doesnt really seem to ever from to fruition.

(edit as I hit enter too quickly)
We're opportunistic! But seems to only be for poor opportunities! Olmo should be one we should have gone all out for at such a cheap price.

That's nothing to do with what I said or what Liamyid said - I'm saying that people shouldn't suggest make other assumptions based on what is passed on. It is often spun negatively when ITKs pass on positive news e.g. - "Why aren't we looking at a DM" when an ITK mentions a striker, "Why didn't we ask in the summer" when they mention a player now etc.

It's 100% to do with what you said and surely making assumptions based on the ITK is exactly what people are meant to do? You want everyone to think the same as you? It's a forum.

We should probs continue the debate via DM though is I like having access to this thread :)

To be honest all I was meaning to say was it sounds like any possible deal with bale will run out of time like plenty of transfers have seemed to in the past. No offence meant and no dig intended to any itk that has been passed on

Agree. It’s not as if it isn’t blindingly obvious that any Bale deal would be incredibly complicated for any club given the politics between Real and Bale and his agent let alone throwing Levy’s conservatism into the mix. I hope we’re not spending too much energy on it to the detriment of our other targets.

I also hope that we are not looking at short term fixes and that are targets, even if for the summer have be on our radar for a while. Wouldn’t want purchases in January to limit what we do in the summer by taking up funds, wages and squad places if they are not people we’ve targeted for a while and properly scouted.

hard to understand why at the start of the window we had a lot of interest in our players which was encouraging, yet now its only 1 out being Eriksen and even that is looking doubtful, although I can probabaly guess why

there is only 1 on our For Sale list that anyone would realistically want urgently and his price is dropping every month.

who else in the prem has brought in or sold anyone of note? Anyway. That’s beside the point. Deals take time unless someone is willing to pay over the odds.

Liverpool knew who they wanted and got him after waiting one window for him. We don’t know who we want next week let alone in the summer.

It’s only a good window if we sort our stuff out and finish top 4. Not holding my breath.
So it would not be a good window if we bought no one and came fourth?

As you say we need to sort our stuff out and then top 4 should come, although may not be this season

When I say sort our stuff out I mean
a) finish top 4
b) start playing football that makes it worth going to games.

this season has been a complete farce. Anyway I’m not going to comment anymore in this thread.
