Out of the 3 of Gio, Bentley and Jenas, I can see Jenas having something of an Indian summer. If the other 2 are kept on, I hope they tak their chance and contribute to the club's success but if I had to put money on one of the forgotten men getting his foot back in the door, it would be JJ.

Have to disagree, JJ is by far the most deserving but he was never good at retaining possession and doubt he's learnt anything since he was with us last. Gio has age and potential still so I believe the rumours are certainly possible....

He is a breath of fresh air. I can't find the article, but I love the way De Boer said (not exact quote) "I told him, you could play for any big club in Europe, including Barcelona, but his heart is set on Tottenham, he only wants a transfer to Tottenham, his heart is in London".

(y)

Maybe Martin Jol sold us to him, in which case, nice one, BMJ!

Fair enough. Hope all 3 of them come good. None of them might. Be interesting to see how they all do though, if they stay.

He briefly mentions in an article about BMJ not talking about us that much - jokingly adding that he might not have wanted to lose him so soon. He did mention though that when BMJ did talk of THFC, it was with affection.

The gorgeous, bald bastard!

You know...that's a damn good observation SpursSince57. He probably would have talked highly about the club throughout his time at Ajax. Though we all know how it ended, Jol knows it happens in football - I'm sure he's never had such an experience in his career as he had at Spurs. To be worshipped and supported like he was from the fans, and to manage one of the biggest clubs in England, is I'm sure something he would use to energise the younger players with. I'm sure BMJ would've told Verts what an incredible REAL football club we are.

Are we trying to sign the collection of longest names in a window? Adebayor, sigurdsson and vertonghen all pretty long names.

I'll punch myself for being a boring prick!!
Levy sells the names on the replica shirts by the letter - he's no fool. Next up: Vennegoor of Hesselinck

Great post and very plausible, though I'm not sure how well Levy and Jol get on these days.

I'm sure Spurs would have come up in conversation when Jol was in charge, and I'm sure he would have talked about the fans, the history and the philosophy of Tottenham. Plus for much of last season we were the most exciting, well playing football team in the best league in the world. I think over the last couple of years a LOT of top players around the world are beginning to realise what we're all about. Well with the exception of Leandro.

Got to say i'm still hoping that Gio is sold on if his stock is still high in Spain and elsewhere, yes he may get a new chance with AVB but i don't think four years of disappointment at Spurs is gonna fill him up with confidence or desire to suddenly want to knuckle down and establish himself. And if he fails yet again, he'll walk on a free and this summer if we get rid at least we'll get a fee for him. I think he's damaged goods tbh and not someone who should be part of our brave new world. Remember that two years ago Harry spoke positively about him in pre season and he suddenly found himself in and around the first team squad but was predictably ineffectual and disappeared yet again. Yes Harry might not have used his squad well but he talked Gio up and clearly felt he had a chance to make the grade at Spurs - he didn't, he hasn't and IMO he won't. I honestly don't understand the love in for him on this forum, really i don't. Agree with an earlier poster, i'd give Bentley another shot before Gio and that ship needs to sail as well
I think the two key factors here are that (a) GDS is capable of great things - as shown for Mexico and (b) he is going to play (if he plays) in a different formation to that employed under 'Arry: whatever we tried, it was a bastardisation of a 442 and AVB wants (if posts on here are to be believed) a 433 - potentially fitting his style of play. I for one do not want to cast him aside without seeing him get a chance!

Jenas and GDS both actually fit the criteria of AVB's ethos and tactics very well. All of GDS's best games are for Mexico forward right in a 433, where his performances are every bit as good (if not better on occasions) as someone like Sturridge's in the same position.
Jenas could play left or right in a central three. He has good technique, a great engine and is a genuine box to box player. If he still retains those qualities after a couple of long injuries.

Huddlestone though doesn't fit the criteria. Nice technique and passing range, but largely moribund because he thinks and moves so slowly and needs time and space to use his skills. We will almost certainly be playing high tempo football. Not Hudd's forte. Same with Bentley.

Yep. I don't know enough about his attitude in training, or why Harry didn't like to play him, however the idea that he's had plenty of opportunities to prove himself and failed is a fallacy. His opportunities have been few and far between, and either reserved for occasional sub appearances in the last 10 minutes of games, or in cup fixtures alongside a weakened line-up.

If he has the right attitude in training, and is playing well, I'd like to see him given a couple of games in a strong Spurs team.

I hope he comes to us - but I can see him going to Milan as a perfect replacement for Ibra - similar style (big, strong and skillful), and they do love a Brazilian. Galliani's going to have to invest some of the money they're getting from PSG.
Milan were apparently after Carlos Tevez back in the January window so I'd expect the Ibra move to put that plan into place.
Besides the Citeh fans can get a twofer with that wonderful post earlier today:

good fucking riddance

useless, lazy, thick, self loving, arrogant, lethargic c*** , who thought he was doing us a favour signing.

get the fuck out you absolute c***

It'll save them having to get their local "intelligent" friend to come over a type a new sending off message!

This is absolute nonsense. For much of his time as a regular, Jenas had one of the highest passes per minute rate in the EPL yet still maintained one of the highest pass completion rates. Regularly in the mid eighties. Way better than Hudd's for example.

Does every player need to be at high tempo though? I'm not disputing this, I'm genuinely asking? :) Could Hudd not sit in front of the back four spraying pin point laser guided missile-type passes to our high tempo forwards to run onto, to the feet, Ade's head? Or would this not fit the system?

That's because they were all about two yards in distance and generally were backwards :)

In other words playing the 'quarter-back' role that Harry described. I think it could work and I think Huddlestone has a future with Spurs.

AVB is a smart guy and he'll recognise the qualities that Hudd brings to the team. It amazes me that people think the high tempo 4-3-3 formation is set in stone in AVB's head. He's a young manager that will utilise a number of different tactics and approaches throughout his career, so if he has a player with such fantastic strong points as Hudd possesses, is it that unusual to think he might make the most of those strengths?

dont know what bc has against tom but its bullshit.

for example

every touch he had against inter , how well and quickly did he use the ball? he was the reason inter couldnt handle us because he dictated the tempo of the game, on this occasion a very swift tempo.
