Archibald posted this tonight......

Forest kid needs to go to tribunal

No idea re Ade

Promoted club have bid £5m for our full back out on loan last year

I forget who it is, but one of the regular posters on here swears that POTL is Naughton's agent so I'm sure he will get his answer as to whether his hunch is correct if POTL comments on this one.

JJ, Akqa and POTL are good - JJ in particluar - but Archie is the Daddy IMO. Just a shame he doesn't post more.

So, that's Lascelles (sp?) and Fryers going to tribunal. Let's hope they turn out better than the last kid that did! Reckon this is Sherwood's work - building his future XI ;)

Not sure how I feel about letting Naughton go. £5m will come in handy, but we have to bring in some viable cover - Are the two above going to be ready for next season? Losing Naughton, Corluka, Gallas, King, Nelsen, Rose (on loan?)... We're looking a little light.

But how many could afford his wages? He will have taken a substantial cut from the crazy whack he was earning at City, but I'm pretty sure he'll still be on around £100k a week, certainly with add-ons and bonuses. Very, very few clubs can stretch to that sort of money, and how many of those that could need him?

I'm surprised one of the big Italian clubs haven't come in for him. Can't wait until we wrap him up. Will be interesting to see what other striker we bring in. Strange that there hasn't been any ITK or press about this.

I can't believe we would get £5m for Smith it has to be Naughton

Yeah, was just thinking as he's young and English somebody might pay through the teeth for him. Highly unlikely, though, I'd guess. I'd agree it must be Naughton, just speculating like a mother fucker

Forest kid, Lachelles? I'm presumming that means he has signed a contract then if its going to tribunal - does anyone know if he was out of contract?

£5M for Naughton doesn't seem like a bad deal to be honest.

Why Archie can't just say 'Naughton' I don't know. It doesn't seem a bad deal, and we make a modest profit, but I'd rather we had better cover for Benny than Rose.

It's good money, considering that either
a) Smith can step up
b) we can keep one of Gallas and Bassong as a 5th CB, and Kaboul can shift sideways if needed

Which club do we think? Reading?

Lascelles and Fyrers > Naughton??

I don't honestly know enough about any of them to make a judgement but if we get £5m for Naughton and spend that amount or less at tribunal on the two young lads then maybe we double our odds on picking a winner and maybe turn a profit on the process?

you have 33.333333333333333333333% chance of being right.

Luckily someone else has guessed Southampton. I'll guess West Ham.

Now we have all the clubs guessed we can avoid that minefield!

You mean, are we collecting the England U21 team because we never get any players near the first team and when they do they normally get injured.

Smith has the potential to be much better than Naughton IMO. Would rather have him as backup to Walker than Naughton who won't ever challenge Walker for his starting spot.

Would like to give Naughton a chance to be part of the squad. Premier League experienced young english full back. Plenty of Cup games where we are going to need him I think!

I really like the idea of picking up all these young English defenders. We have to keep an English contingent and defence is the best place to establish one. I don't want us to do an arsenal by fielding only foreigners. Conversely, The country just don't produce enough exceptional midfielders and strikers imo for one reason or another.

We could spunk tens of millions on the next Rooney only for him to turn out like frazier campbell. Whereas defenders might not fulfill their potential BUT, more often than NOT, will turn over a profit (or small loss) however large if we deem then not good enough. Rooney, Scholes and Gerrard the only genuine world class nondefensive players in the last 15(?) years is really bad. It doesn't make financial sense taking risks on young English players in that mould.

Really what I'm trying to say is this is a sensible and cost effective approach :p

Naughton was star on championship at age of Smith. There is 3 years in-between and Kyle is two times championship xi player and proven pl full back whereas Smith is still to impress on higher than League One. Naughton is much, much more likely to have career on top flight than Smith.

I agree and it's always nice to have English defenders. They sum up the determination and grit that the EPL has long been associated with.

If we sell Naughton for £5M that means we got Walker for £3m. Very nice piece of business. I've seen enough of Naughton during his loan periods at Leicester and Norwich that i'm convinced he'll never be of the quality required for the Spurs 1st team. He's not bad, just not good enough.
