After Holtby's debut the other night, i'm not throwing myself off the nearest bridge just yet....coys!

I mentioned this on another thread, Holtby will play the VDV role, maybe AVB thought he can cope with only 2 strikers fighting for one position ...its not all doom and gloom .

You could argue we need a decent/mediocre back up striker as 3rd/4th choice , but Saha hardly excited us last year.

Honestly went to bed after the TW closed, hoping I will wake up and see someone bought in levy time. Shame on me. AVB good luck.
Snap, I should have known better.
Why do we do ir to ourselves?
one prediction from last night that has come right is that monster hangover I've got.....

Like a lot of people, I feel disappointed that we didn't improve 1 or 2 key areas but im also glad we didnt panic with a signing like Gary Hooper. my big worry is that the squad is too thin to maintain our start to the season and we may run out of legs again towards the end of the season.

When you look at the bench there isn't too much genuine competition for places and players like Bale and Azza have in the past, given the nature of their game, became less affective as the season draws to an end. I would personally take a little focus away from the Europa League but I'm not sure that will happen.

Anyway, a lot of people may feel let down by DL but we haven't been let down by SC, so big thanks to A&C and all the other mods and of course all you guys who make the TW so entertaining.

We defo needed another striker, this has once again not been addressed by DL and I think this will cost us 4th place, well done DL.

Well done A & C with your daily ITK update which has had me constantly chuckling.
It was a quiet window as expected.
Also glad we didn't waste money on Hooper and the like.
Good to get some players out for valuable playing time on loan.
It goes without saying that we needed more quality in certain places but change that record as this time last year we could have gone on to win the league with 2 or 3 more players. Same could have been said 2 years ago too. We dont and cant do that.
Shame but its just the reality of our financial status.
Not sure what AVB thinks but if i find out i may pass it on.

If we'd waited until yesterday to sign holtby you'd all be fairly happy as we would have made a big last day signing.

As we signed him early (いsh) your all depressed that we got no one.

Is holtby any good? Not a clue - never heard of him.

Who then? We don't know who was available or how much was wanted or how much we had to play with. Loans? Again who?
I didn't know holtby was available but we got him, there are strikers out there, it'd not my job to scout these players, either is it my job to provide stability for this club, either is my job to improve this club. As a supporter I need commitment, consistent, and most of truth. Guess what am not to bothered, I know aren't getting relegated.

If splashing the cash is the answer, then the Newcastle game next weekend will be worth watching.
Just hope we have Ade back by then.
Here's a tough one - what songs do Burkina Faso fans sing? Nightmare....

Thanx JJ.... One thing this window has shown is who are the wums of ITK and who's not. JJ said from the start we will be quite and don't have the £ to spend, whereas others were coming out with extravagant stuff which common sense told you was BS. Hopefully the mods can weed out these wums so far next time any ITK we get is clear and concise like JJ's.

Yep, a nothing club. I look forward to our slip back to 90s mediocrity with our gnome at the helm, better off as the muppet is getting zero from me.

We dont and cant do that.
Shame but its just the reality of our financial status.

I don't believe that for a second. In the last year we god rid of some of our biggest earners. Here is a list of players off the wage bill in the last 12 months:
Gomes, Cudicini, Jenas, VDV, Dos Santos, Modric, Bassong, Saha, Pienaar, King, Kranjcar, Corluka.

That's 12 players right there, some of them the biggest earners in the club.

Players we got signed:
Gylfi, Vertonghen, Dembele, Dempsey, Lloris and Holtby.
I'd be shocked if their wages make even half of the departed players wages. There is also a new TV deal coming, worth £20 million per year more than the one we have now.

I always try look on the bright side. Newcastle made the most signings and QPR got a few in but I'd still rather be a Spurs fan (y)

Well, JJ and AVB said a quiet window at the start and we ended up with two signings.
Holtby looks class.
Fryers pissed off United.
We also managed to shift Jenas and Gomes. For ages we have been saying the deadwood needs cutting and some of it is off the payroll.
AVB, having had 4 months to look at what was there, was able to decide which young players to keep around and which to send out for experience (which worked for Caulker and Naughton last year).

There was an attempt to sign Damiao. Who knows whether Levy meant it to happen or whether he was bluffing but it reminded the player and the club that we want to do business - maybe there is a future there (or, maybe we will simply jerk ourselves around in August again).

We have a decent squad and are not bankrupt. Yes, we could have paid fortunes in transfer fees and wages and got in some decent players. If you want to watch the "what if we did that" saga, you can watch QPR who have gambled with the likes of Samba and Remy on £100k pw each and see if agent Redknapp can scuttle another PL team. Levy does not pay stupidly over the odds and we are never one of the clubs who are in danger of bankruptcy. It is clear that Arry made promises at QPR which may see a Championship side stuffed with wages they cannot pay. Watch and see. If they survive, the gamble of paying over the odds will have worked and if not then they are likely to plummet. That can be compared with the "if we'd signed x y or z we'd be 3rd by now" argument. Let's see at the end of the season.

I wish we had signed Moutinho, Willian, Damiao, M'Vila, Sneijder, Coutinho and the like but we didn't. I thought there may have been a surprise LevyTime signing but there wasn't. Hey ho. We go on.

One thing remains: we are Tottenham, super Tottenham, we are Tottenham from The Lane.

Another January passes, another opportunity missed. But hardly surprising, we didn't exactly spend big when we had champs league money, even less likely when we didn't.

The only comfort I can take is that none of our rivals have really strenghened either. We are still 4th despite drawing the last 3 and IMHO those around us are no more consistent.

The key will be how quickly holtby can make an impact, I personally think the shots/chances we have been creating are misleading and actually most of the time we are taking shots from outside the area because no one can spot the killer pass. If holtby can do that Defoe and Ade will get enough goals to get 4th (well they did last year).

I also like to try and get some perspective. Of the 25 years as a spurs fan I can honestly say this is the best management structure, training facility, youth set up etc we have had and I still remember us having to beat Oldham away on a cold Wednesday night just to stave off relegation, so we are not in that bad a shape.

Finally all this rubbish about bale going because we haven't spent 20 mill on a striker etc is nonsense. Whether we get 4th or not, Bale will go if the price is right, just like every player in the world.

Here's to Ade coming back firing from the ACON! Cos that's what we are going to need. But strangely I think he will.

I think Ade and Holtby will live playing with each other. Ade has looked so frustrated at the players around him not being on the same wavelength. This TW without Holtby would have been seriously worrying. Now I'm just a little worried.
