Pretty obvious the strikers we wanted were not available/ or the right price, So many teams wanted strikers and so many teams didn’t get any and the fact united are paying 100k a week for Ighalo just shows the market

We wanted Piatek, he wanted to come. We wanted a loan to minimise the risk.

I for am very satisfied with this window as my expectations were reasonable and tempered. The only player I wanted was a quality back up striker but had my reservations as I know that the quality ones were already engaged and their clubs would be reluctant for them to leave mid campaign in January. Getting GF and SB were a bonus to me as I was not expecting them.

In the defence we have a new "signing" in Tanganga where it shows our investment in youth paying off again. Him coupled with a renaissance Aurier shows that there is no hurry to get the another right RB.

The Midfield (defensive) I also believe that we have enough talent to hold on until the summer to get the right one. The only thing I would say is that Can was available as he went to Dortmund for 27m. That is the caliber of player we should have got and now will be looking in the summer to get.

I am very confident that with our acquisitions from the last two windows, our squad are very capable of now getting us Top 4 and a Trophy

Thank to all ITK's for keeping us udpdated in the last month and will take it back up in the summer

I am disappointed as much as most of you that we have failed to sign a striker however I would rather we sign a forward of quality in the summer who can not only compliment Kane but also allow Kane to be managed properly to avoid risk of further injuries. Proper business to be done in summer. But still pleasantly surprised by signing gedson and Bergwijn

So what happens if we carry on with Moura up top and miss out on top 4?

Why is it difficult to slag off ‘No striker?!’ The ones offered (aside from Giroud) of late were not do-able in the end. The possible ones like Benteke Mourinho (JM) didn’t fancy. Had we signed Benteke with JM blessings, we would be going off on one. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

And again, up until last night a lot of us thought Giroud was good as done. It wasn’t chavs that stopped it, but Frank. Pissing about with a player’s career like that is not on.
Doesn’t speak highly of our scouting department if we can only target players offered by agents

Missing out on a striker is bad but it’s not the be all and end all.

We’ve previously been told Parrott wouldn’t be involved due to him a) not being ready and b) hadn’t committed to a new deal. As per Hercs update - b) is about to change on his 18th birthday. With Troy committing to the club and Jose stating he’s now no longer available for loan, it’s plausible that Jose will bring him back into the match day squads.

In addition to Parrott we’ve signed the very exciting Bergwijn. Although he’s not a striker as such he has played there for PSV this season. Regardless of whether he’s a make shift striker or not, he’s a) a very good player and b) gives up balance should Jose opt to revert to a 433.

Moura and Son have both struggled up top as a twosome or one off the other. However, with the addition of Bergwijn it will allow us to play 3 actual forward players whom share similar skill sets - pace and trickery... giving us balance across the front 3.

I think missing out on a striker would have been a disaster had we not brought in Bergwijn. His signing gives us balance and for that reason I believe we’ll see an improvement in both our performances and chance conversion. The squad will also be boosted by Hercs update that he hears both Tanganga and our captain Lloris have also signed new deals.

He's not available for loan because he needs to spend 2 uninterrupted years with us for him to be registered as homegrown, or club trained or some such shit. Something beneficial anyway. His 2 years is up on his 18th birthday, which unfortunately for him, and possibly fortunately for us, is a few days after the transfer window. Nothing to do with jose having a change of heart.

I don’t disagree with that. I just accept reality. Our chairman will never change. It is like realising the dream wife you married is actually a bitch and you
want out. You get a divorce, and go again. We just can’t divorce our chairman, as it means divorcing our club. Btw, happily married for 31 years

Can we just cheat on him instead then?

If you were Lampard/Chelsea why would you help out a top 4 rival?

If their keeper got injured and they wanted Gazzaniga we'd tell them to do one, and we'd do it right at the end of the window to hurt them more.

The whole Giroud pursuit was ill advised. A waste of time.

Exactly. Any of us could see and did say that exact same thing would happen. It was so obvious. Seriously those running the transfer business at this club must have one brain cell to rub together if they thought Chelsea were going to let us sign him. In fact I don’t think there was a poster on here that seriously thought Chelsea would let us have him.

You know that City actively chose not to play strikers as recently as a couple of weeks ago right?

We have goalscorers in the team. They’re not in form. But an actual striker can easily not be in form. See all strikers (save for Kane) since Berba.

Yes that’s right but they’re managed by Pep who’s footballing philosophy couldn’t be further away from Mourinho’s.

Just so I don’t have to read through 20 pages of betting odds, have we any irons left in the fire or are we closed for business now?

the risk of what though? that he is not really a footballer and the goals he has scored were all flukes?
every transfer is a risk in a way
and £25m or whatever it was, whilst a lot of money to you and me, is not a lot in todays football

Herc alluded to some financial restrictions so loans were more preferable, so that is a factor its hard to comment on.

My view is we shouldn’t been in the position of having only one CF. We have had one CF since the summer. We also let llorente’s contract run down. So worse case we have had 12 months to identify and buy a striker. The failure to do so is pretty horrendous, if we had brought some cheap backups that didn’t work out I could understand that but to not buy anyone is a real slap in the face to hard working people who pay big money to go week in week out imo
We should not be in that position but the reality is we are. Keep moaning about it is not going to change things
