Why is it difficult to slag off ‘No striker?!’ The ones offered (aside from Giroud) of late were not do-able in the end. The possible ones like Benteke Mourinho (JM) didn’t fancy. Had we signed Benteke with JM blessings, we would be going off on one. Damned if you do, damned if you don’t.

And again, up until last night a lot of us thought Giroud was good as done. It wasn’t chavs that stopped it, but Frank. Pissing about with a player’s career like that is not on.

The concerns at the striker position go all the way back to the summer. That’s the problem. It was an obvious area of need once Llorente left and Kane’s relentless injury woes. Going into the season with no identifiable backup striker and then still not doing anything about it in the subsequent window is pretty bad planning from a club that says they want to compete at the highest level.

This. Adding to it that we now have an additional attacking midfield player in Begwijn and actually the rest of the season is still looking ok to me.

Let's see how it goes, but we've had Kane out for sustained periods before, at a time where Son was our only real source of goals and it was ok. Now we have several attacking midfielders capable of bringing goals to our games.

Also for me: Son is better than Giroud would have been, and Piatek was too much of an unknown.

But the 15m per season manager hired does not think so. That’s the problem.

Because we've had since Llorente left to sign a backup striker.
Because we've had a month since Kane got injured to desperately sign a backup striker.
Of course we failed trying to do it in the last few days and of course the options left were awful.
There's no world class striker who fancied playing in the best stadium in the world and working for the most famous manager in the world?
There's reallyno defence for how much Levy fucks about trying to get a "deal", pinching pennies but losing pounds.

I don’t disagree with that. I just accept reality. Our chairman will never change. It is like realising the dream wife you married is actually a bitch and you
want out. You get a divorce, and go again. We just can’t divorce our chairman, as it means divorcing our club. Btw, happily married for 31 years

If Levy genuinely thought we could sign Giroud from Chelsea whilst we’re battling them for 4th and focused solely on him, then he’s not the master negotiator we think he is.

Eriksen was always going to go this window if we got a half decent price, and frankly he's been poor for us this season for the most part. Dele has thrived under Jose and Lo Celso looks likely to step up in Eriksen's place. For me we're no worse off on this one.

Rose has been pretty woeful as well this season, but worse he seems to be a bad influence off the pitch within the squad. If he was playing at his prime this could be forgiven, but we have Davies who can cover that position well.

It's far too early to comment on the two in-comings, but the big plus point is they are both Jose signings.
Obviously different people see things in different ways. Yes, hopefully Gio can step up further, but I do see his position as a supplement to an Eriksen type/Dembele. Maybe Sessengnon is the long term succeeder to Rose. But at the moment we have not strengthened the team this window, unless of course Birwyn (not looked up spelling) is a star. My mood is still pretty deflated tbh.

Fat Franks always been a **** in my book.
Indeed. And clearly, as a life long Chelscum, his hatred for us is grafted to his DNA. And yes, him preventing a player from going, knowing full well that he does not intend to use said player, is also a bit of a dick move. However, if he felt that us signing Giroud could potentially strengthen our squad, and in turn, hurt his team's chances of CL qualification, then in his mind, this decision is completely justifiable. The player has a contract. And the team he signed for, and who pay his wages are under no obligation to sell.

So, yes... Fat Frank is a shit-encrusted taint... but in his mind, this is the right competitive thing to do for the team he manages. If it were the other way around, I wouldn't blame our manager one bit.

So what you're saying is, Bale is still a possibility. This is good news, and I for one will keep believing. (y)

My view is we shouldn’t been in the position of having only one CF. We have had one CF since the summer. We also let llorente’s contract run down. So worse case we have had 12 months to identify and buy a striker. The failure to do so is pretty horrendous, if we had brought some cheap backups that didn’t work out I could understand that but to not buy anyone is a real slap in the face to hard working people who pay big money to go week in week out imo

Barca got Messi and greizmann that are fit
Chelsea got Abraham and Batshuyai that are fit
United have Martial and Greenwood.

They are not as desperate as we are

WE DO NOT HAVE A FIT STRIKER

Worth pointing out that Poch didn't play "strikers" and so that's how our team is built.

Regardless, when Kane was injured the last umpteenth times, Poch rarely played either of the two "recognised" players he had in that position (Llorente/Janssen) and instead played others like Son. In one game, he had I think Lamela/Son/Lucas all rotating position.

Mourinho plays differently, but there's no reason why Son still cannot be considered a CF as he was as much of one under Poch as he would be now. We have no "target man", granted, but if we can't get one that Mourinho likes and another team wants to sell, that we want beyond the summer and don't want to be stuck with, what are we to do? Answer would be to use one of Dele/Lamela/Moura/Son/Bergwijn/Parrot. I'm sure each would be a better choice than brining in someone who won't play because JM doesn't rate them (e.g. like Poch did with Janssen).

Dear lord, what a sad little chairman Daniel. You ruined my deadline day completely just so you could save some money. I hope you will now spend it on getting some lessons in grace and decorum because you have all the grace of a reversing dump truck without any tyres on. Take your money and get out of my club.

every man and his dog knew they’d pull the plug on giroud thiugh! Be it frank, the chavs or the tea lady! To not have a back up on him is negligent! We e had 31 days! Not 24 hours!

Everyone knows the Chelsea don't deal with us. Why even waste all that time and energy for Fat Wank to say no. We all knew someone from Chelsea would have said no and done us over. Rob is right. We had more than a month to find a backup striker. Clearly Moura up top is not working. We need someone up there with presence

Pretty obvious the strikers we wanted were not available/ or the right price, So many teams wanted strikers and so many teams didn’t get any and the fact united are paying 100k a week for Ighalo just shows the market

You want to know why everyone is pissed off we're not getting a striker in?

Llorente was fine for last season, but we knew he wasn't going to be an able backup moving forward, we should have been looking for strikers this time last year, but we weren't.

We then let him leave knowing Kane's injury record, so we should have been looking to bringing someone for January but we weren't.

Kane was even kind enough to get injured just before the window open, we should have been looking to get someone in the first week of the window, but again we didn't.

We have had ample time and warnings and once again the manager has been let down.

Unless our chairman has an epiphany like a Scrooge reflection, we are stuck with him, unless new owners/buyers come in. I am just being a realist. Otherwise beating the same drum. I am pissed off like the most us. Won’t change anything though
