Er... we should have had £180m of CL revenue sloshing around last summer that couldn't have been factored into the stadium spend. We've now spent that.

So without CL revenue, exactly how was Levy planning to do ANY business in the transfer market?

Maybe not for this thread but hoping okay whilst we've had some ITK on the finances.

We spent £300m from revenue buying up all the property round whl, we are no longer doing that so plenty of cash available.

today, i feel like one of those chimpanzees that presses a lever and receives a peanut. except every time F5 is pressed, nothing comes up. disappointing that a striker wasn't signed. Hard to think that one of the deals wasn't reasonable enough. fingers crossed that Jose has an alternate plan barring any last minute miracles. (can i rainbow my own post?)

This has been mentioned before but if you classify Martial as a striker than Moira and Son are too. The reality is Son is a great striker and has been mightily effective for us in that position. We do have strikers we just don't have strikers that Jose wants. Very few actively complained about not getting a striker last window because we know Son can be effective there, and Poch trusts him there. But Jose doesn't. But it's completely disingenuous to suggest we only have one striker. Its simply not true.

This. Adding to it that we now have an additional attacking midfield player in Begwijn and actually the rest of the season is still looking ok to me.

Let's see how it goes, but we've had Kane out for sustained periods before, at a time where Son was our only real source of goals and it was ok. Now we have several attacking midfielders capable of bringing goals to our games.

Also for me: Son is better than Giroud would have been, and Piatek was too much of an unknown.

No, but you can take three peanuts from petty cash.

We might still get Giroud. Julian laurens said he's pissed, and with the Italian window closed we're his last hope. Let's hope he kicks up a hell of a fuss.

I’m so much an optimist by nature, but we have lost Eriksen and Rose, and have replaced them with two ‘hopefuls’, based on our recent transfer records. Actually no Rose replacement at all. Plus of course the Harry Kane situation. To me this is a 2 steps backward step. Still hoping for the rabbit out of the hat though.

Not a surprise really, given that he'll want to play in the Euros and that chance will likely evaporate if he stays with Chelsea. Whereas a move to us would massively increase his chance of playing in the summer.

But there is seemingly no chance of this happening now.

Hire a proven winner, refuse him a pivotal piece of his playing style (of any sort, even a d lister would have done), profit? Daniel, what the f*ck?

Agree with most of this post, but what happens if someone else gets injured? Others mentioned that if Sonny or Moura starting hitting the target, we'll be far better off and we will be and the addition of Begwijn may make for a very fluid attack but we're walking closer to the edge of the cliff than anyone should feel comfortable doing.

The converse is to believe that Levy and the club’s interests are not aligned.

Club does well, the man makes more money. Club does not so well, the man makes less money.

It’s really not that deep.
Club qualifies for champs league and makes money he's happy. No interest in anything other than that.

One wanted out. One was a shadow of his former self. No loss in my view.

Everyone’s saying this has been a bad window, but realistically who did you want to sign to play upfront ?

For me I honestly can’t see the point of overpaying for third rate players

Eriksen was always going to go this window if we got a half decent price, and frankly he's been poor for us this season for the most part. Dele has thrived under Jose and Lo Celso looks likely to step up in Eriksen's place. For me we're no worse off on this one.

Rose has been pretty woeful as well this season, but worse he seems to be a bad influence off the pitch within the squad. If he was playing at his prime this could be forgiven, but we have Davies who can cover that position well.

It's far too early to comment on the two in-comings, but the big plus point is they are both Jose signings.
