One attacking midfielder and one centre back in a joint deal? Sounds like Andy Reid and Michael Dawson all over again...

I'm all for the talented youngster signings too and they should be made each and every season without fail, coulibaly springs to mind as one of these. A bit risky, possibly a pub trivia questions in the future but they excite the fans and can be highly profitable when it all comes off.
These two are a bit beyond talents though. This is a lay em down, in your face, statement of intent from the club IMO.
We're here, we belong and we're not going away.
Throw in Paulinho and Villa, snaffle Deulefeu and we'll have the title in our sights....

The difference between Jedvaj and Halilovic & Coubilaly is that when we signed Coulibably it seemed purely reactive to that one tournament he had; it seemed like we didn't have much of a strategy. The Croatians are two of the most highly touted youngsters in Europe if not the world, and to me, especially given that Roma were in for Jedvaj just a couple of weeks ago, have the hallmarks of Baldini and his desire to spend money on the best young talent.
So these signings carry a lot less risk when enough work has gone into them, rather than just watching one tournament.

According ti Wiki Alen Halilovic is "considered to be one of the greatest young talents of European football" not sure who wrote that but surely if you've got the opportunity you have to get him don't you? Got to be optimistic on him.
As for pizzagate I'm pretty site there's lots and lots of pizza houses in London probably more than Florence.
My optimistic hat is going to get a wearing this season.

I know for a fact we do not rate Coulibaly! Everyone around the training ground thinks he's living off his hatrick against brazil. Personally I can't comment because I've only seen clips of his goals and haven't watched him play but just passing on what I've been told.

How much are we paying for these kids anyway?

I read somewhere it's £17m for the pair. I'm surprised Daniel Levy's SC army of self-appointed accountants haven't popped up yet to tell us we've got no money. Probably busy in another thread saying we should offer Barca £8m plus 4,000 Nectar Points for David Villa.

No idea on Croats
But as Hash will confirm was told a week ago
Brazilian done
The HUD Defoe Dempsey all for sale.
Bale agent adamant bale stays this season
Avb and baldini want 4 more and don't think the Croats included
Nothing ground breaking but all from top table

Assuming this is true, that means 1 brazilian + 4 more which means total we target 5 new signings and let 5 to go.

Paulinho, Villa, Soldado, 1 winger and LB.

IIRC Archibald said something similar about 5 incoming at the end of the season.

What's so funny? I've been told by someone who works with the players.

for anyone who didn't catch it, there is an overload of exchanges between JJ and Storts in the last thread

pages 33 to 35 assuming your settings are identical to mine, some didn't make the RO

The stuff about Kaboul in there is worrying. I suspect AVB doesn't really want to play Dawson all the time, and Caulker has a long way to go before being ready to be our defensive rock so it may be that we now have to spend a fair bit of cash on a centre back.

Hmmm if so I think forget abbout LB, I think 2 strikers, 2 wide wingers and Paulinho will strengthen us. Maybe ask for a bundle deal for Villa + Afellay (EUR 3M) since Barca wants to offload them.

Probably best not to get too hung up on the idea that we're looking to bring in exactly 5 players.

I imagine we're looking to improve in all areas of the squad, and AVB and Baldini have probably highlighted a few positions that are more critical than others. To sort out those positions might take 5 players, but if something else happens (e.g. Kaboul's injury doesn't improve) or someone else becomes available that would improve the squad, then I doubt Levy is going to say, 'no we agreed on 5 and only 5'.

Will also depend on who we can ship out of the squad to make way as I don't see Levy signing too many players without a certain confidence that we'll sell to gain back some of the funds.

Football Manager 2013/4 is going to be sweeeeet

World Class keeper - no need to shell out there.
Bale - will be god, hello LongShots 20! Freekicks 20!
Jan - IMHO he will prob be slightly overrated, but will do for the first 5 seasons.
Holtby/Siggy young and coverings for the next xx years
Dembele/Sandro/Paulinho - fairly highly rated outside Tottenham too - so should be decent enough.
Villa (cough) - scoring goals left right and rhubard for a few years

bahoooom!

The Croatian lads will be fab, always good to nab some young talent.

But for me the window starts after we sign Paulinho & Villa! Lol I know I know, but come on, we have been banging on about these two for ages and whilst nothing is 100%, you would at least like to think these two are fairly nailed on.

But who then? You can't tell me that will be that, not with the list of potential outgoings, so colour me curious as to who else we are looking at!

Soooo...plenty to chew on over the weekend.

I love 'first of the month' editions...IIRC last years was epic.

Interesting to hear that deals are as good as done in some areas...Paulinho, Villa (maybe) and the two young Croatians.

The Kaboul info is a worry though...is he still struggling or is he ready for pre-season? With him and Sandro back in the fold, I've started looking at competitions next season...who AVB will play in EL and league matches. The ITK on 4 more after Paulinho (not including the Croats) gives us the depth we need to succeed in all competitions. Rotation is key but so is, to a large degree protection for the likes of Kaboul and Sandro. They can't be playing week in week out at the start...but I reckon AVB will have planned around this.

It'll be an intriguing 2 months finding out who those 4 (if 4) will be. ITK have pointed out how quickly targets change so who we're linked with today might be completely different tomorrow.

I'd still like to see us sign 2 forwards (Villa and 1 other) If this is Leandro, I'm happy with that. Keep Ade and we have a very strong selection there. With another pacey, creative wide player added, our only concern is LB.

Happy days...pinch and a punch motherfuckers :)

As much as I want to get excited I can remember exactly the same hype around Sinama Pongolle and Anthony Le Tallec when they signed for Liverpool. And even though you could see they were very good players they just couldnt make the breakthrough into Liverpools first team.

Dont get me wrong, I hope these kids make it, if we sign them, but with kids you can never predict the path they will take.

I have seen one match of his for Ivory Coast and it was boring as hell but anyway even though he is young I thought he looked extremely ordinary. He had a poor touch, diabolical defoe like movement and zero vision. But I didnt let it bother me as he is still very young he may just have a massive growth spurt and become an unplayable Drogba/Lukaku type.

Hopefully he progress assuming he will go out on loan again.
