At the end of the day levy is a proper business man, strong on the financial gearing of the club. We might moan about deals taking ages to complete, but it's in the benefit of the club at the end of the day.
There has been time's when he probably has shot himself in the foot, like maybe Suarez or maybe Villa, and probably on dead line day last summer, but in the long run if the deal ain't right then there is no point in doing it, and sometimes there could be other factors, us fans never hear about.
There is no doubt we need a new stadium, just to compete with those around us, and a run of getting into the champions league to attract those players we try so desperately to attract, but a lot had changed since we last got into the holy grail, there is now two other clubs that can simply throw endless cash at attracting players, and that effects us, in the grand scale of things.
We now have to, very now and again take a wee risk, with players and benteke is a risk, given his age, his fee and his experience at dealing with a difficult league every season.
Levy will know this and it will probably happen but it will probably reflect all of this, we arent like Chelsea or city we simply cant afford to throw money at it, just to get it over the line quickly.

Holtby and Carroll - quality cover. You so not need £15m, £60k p/w players to back up every other player in the first 11. And you don't need cover for every single individual player - those two could easily cover the three players you mention.

We are not Man United, we do not have infinite resources an we cannot keep top quality players happy by sitting them on the bench.
I agree on agree with most of what you are saying. But having 4 or 5 players to cover 3 positions is essential. . Injury and one suspension and suddenly we've a midfield 3 of Paulinho Carroll and Holtby so to speak.
I'd be surprised if we spent that kind of money but equally feel if we switch to 433 a further addition would be useful.

I think we have enough midfielders if we do go 433 mate. Paulinho, Dembele, Sandro, Carroll, Holtby, Sigurdsson.. I think there'll be more than a few games when we see either of Holtby or Carroll between two out of Dembele, Paulinho, Sandro & our options really are vast, just from those 6 players.

EDIT:Which is why I think it'll be fine to offload all of Parker, Livermore & Huddlestone. . If the worst comes to the worst, we may be able to recall Lluongo or Pritchard, who I'm almost certain would offer just as much, if not more than either of the 3 I reckon we could sell..

Sorry but not a chance lluongo or Pritchard are as good as or better than those three. I'm not saying we should keep them but the above is just a but more than optimistic

I agree, If we are concerned about depth anywhere outside the front 3, it should be DC with 4 players for 2 positions one of which is returning from a long term injury and Dawson's has had a few injury problems over the years too.

Why not a chance they could offer more than Livermore, Parker & Huddlestone? Carroll already can, via being able to not only pass, but can do it instantly & he can also actually move as well.

Lluongo can do everything that Parker & Livermore can do, but can also go forwards & pass forwards too.

Pritchard has the ability to actually grab a game by the scruff & make things happen, which none of the other senior 3 are able to (well Huddlestone can if he's given 10 minutes of time & space to make a decision & pick a pass)..

It's all about personal opinion, mate.. My personal opinion is different to yours & I feel that neither of Parker, Huddlestone or Livermore are capable of being anything more than 'cover'. Yet we have youth that can also provide cover AND improve, something the 3 I say could go are unable to do.. We'd also save a significant wedge in wages too..

Well Soldado for a start, consistently among the top scorers in La Liga recent years, we could have signed Negredoi last season for a lot less than City just paid and he's another one. Higuain curiously is not on that big a wage at Real, part of the reason he is unhappy.

Well obviously Negredo has signed for City. Valencia want roughly £30M for Soldado, and Higuain looks like he's heading for a big money move to Napoli. So what's our chances of signing these players... It's easy picking out names but doing the deal to bring them to Spurs is difficult.

So you are saying we cant just say we want messi, offer peanuts for him and signing him on minimum wage?

Lets get Ronaldo in instead then :sneaky:

This is exactly the problem - no Champions League football and we dont pay high wages, why would these players play for us ?

To be honest, le goons seem to be having the same problem even with CL and United and City have already missed a long list of first choice targets.

Lluongo and Pritchard arent getting a sniff of first team football in any match that matters.

I think you are a little over ambitious with how good our young players are here.

I don't buy this "benefit of the club" bollocks anymore. Its only the benefit of Levy and ENIC that matters to the board. Often these two causes are one and the same but I have no doubt if finishing 10th every season turned out to be the most profitable then we would take that over winning the title.

Err no, because the big pay day is when they sell the club. To do that they have to increase it's value, that means over the long term build the club up, trophies, stadium, training grounds, etc... If done through careful management of funds it benefits all parties and in the end we get flogged to a high bidder.

So it IS in ENIC's best interests to see us do well... what they wont do is chuck endless cash at us to do it quickly as it is always about profit.

You have to live within your means, Chelsea got away with it when Bates was at the helm, and Leeds well we know how that turned out.

I really do think Carroll will be out on loan mate.
