This time last year we were only just beginning to be linked with lloris/others and AvB was still in his first week as manager. there's still lots of time time for a lot to happen. but that's besides the point. We've already broken our transfer record for paulinho, and we're about to do it again for arguably the best young striker in the league in Benteke.. And you're underwhelmed? Ffs.

We have seemingly made an earlier start on our interests but I just would hope we're not still insisting on driving such a hard bargain with these players and clubs.

It's probably done. It's just our website team need two weeks to figure out how to upload a picture of Christian and then they'll need to find the £ sign so they can tell us the fee.

Complex stuff.

I find it ridiculous that we were all desperate to sign Adebayor last season, and now most of you cannot wait to get rid of him.

He had a difficult season last year, in which he had largely no pre - season and ACN.

He was fantastic season the before and almost unplayable at times last season.

Personally, I would prefer to have him than not - especially at the rate strikers are disappearing at the moment.

He also seems to have a good realationship with Bale.

I want at least 3 strikers and 1 wing forward.

It's funny how if a player has a great season a lot of "fans" expect a player to show "loyalty" and turn down bigger clubs and more money, but one bad season and you are sending him down to the glue factory.

No pre season was his own choice, made no effort to get in shape, was holidaying in new York whilst we were on tour there, not exactly the sign of a model professional. Unplayable at times? Are you sure? 3 good games at the end of the season but unplayable? Do me a favour

the only time he was unplayable was against chelsea, he was class. the rest he was dog turd. He put the effort in that game, whats his excuse in the rest of the poor games.?

He was not signed in time for pre-season.

Perhaps you will be happier with Harry Kane up front next season.

We need 3 - 4 strikers to compete in all competitions - that does not equate to buying Benteke and selling Adebayor.

It sounds like City are the team for you - you can celebrate signing 6 strikers a season.

I genuinely think a lot of people in this thread care more about signings than they do about the fucking club. 'I don't care what he costs, just sign him' 'I hope we don't spend ages fucking around negotiating'
If anyone wants my house, it's yours for a mill

Absolutely - a lot of people in here would have got rid of Scholes, Drogba...even Bale after 1 bad season early in their careers.

"Quick sell them and buy a shiney new one".

Fickle.

Fucking grates on me as soon as I see the word 'worryingly'.

If taking longer than a week to sign Benteke is your biggest worry in life, you really need to move out of your parent's house.

I don't think using the word 'worry' or any other derivative is over the top at all? Nowhere in my post was it indicative that this transfer was my biggest worry... It's not like I've said 'It's depressing me that we haven't signed Benteke yet' (which would be over-dramatic).

I don't get why people seem to think that football is separate from the world's economy (bar the minority of clubs who are billionaires playthings). Clubs do have to fight for the odd million or 2 when brokering a deal. I would much rather Levy try and get the right deal than throw money about and end up like Leeds!

That being said, I firmly believe we will get the players that are needed for our system this year.

Not everyone was desperate to sign him last year at all and I think even those more positive about Ade were getting fed up with things dragging and the fact that he was nmot training pre season

I don't think he was fantastic the season before either, he got good stats but when you look at the fact that he got the bulk of his goals and half his assists in just 7 PL games I think it showed that he is a player that can work well in games that fit his strengths but he isn't the striker to best fit our game or the opposition we often face

Personally the sooner he's gone the better and with the money we save on his wages we can hopefully afford two strikers that do fit our game far better, or at least get one striker who actually merits high wages

Surely there's a happy balance where a club can see that at times they need to pay a bit extra to get a player in a position they really need to boost the team and bring them success that won't happen if they don't add a bit of quality. Take last season surely rather than haggling over a couple of million we had tied up a quality striker chances are we would be in the CL this season and even a decent early run should have given us maybe £30 mill in extra revenue.

It's easy to quote Leeds but they were just reckless in throwing high fees and wages at for the most part some pretty average players. Speculating to accumulate by making well considered timely investments in players can pay huge dividends

The worst thing about the transfer window is the endless waiting. Just buy Benteke already Levy! Please...

Well Soldado for a start, consistently among the top scorers in La Liga recent years, we could have signed Negredoi last season for a lot less than City just paid and he's another one. Higuain curiously is not on that big a wage at Real, part of the reason he is unhappy.
