Obviously massively disappointing if we don't get Villa, particularly if he goes for such a small amount, but to be honest with us not being in the CL it's going to be tricky to convince players to pick us above teams in the CL, particularly as we don't have a huge amount of cash to throw around.

Hopefully we have other irons in the fire and hopefully Levy realises that he's going to HAVE to spend close to 20m (at least) if he wants 2 strikers (which is what we need).

If he doesn't realise that then I think we'll be marooned outside the top 4 next season.

Have you heard anything on this from your Biatch? Was it the lack of CL?

No not today as i know is very busy. But tbh from what i have heard before today is we thought we had agreed a fee but it wasnt finalised.(Rob will back this up as i sent him a pm with this info)
I think this is down to the player tbh. But that isnt ITK just opinion going on what i have already heard.

-Sorry wanted to add..... There is nothing saying he has agreed terms yet so mite not be over. Also could be that Atleico Madrid had a bid accepted and finalised first and have permission to talk. That really is not ITK! Just opionion!

well there is a risk in signing any player tbh

True and there are different types and degrees of risk. With Benteke there is the very real performance sided risk that he is a OSW whereas investing in a proven striker that risk diminishes dramatically.

I simply feel that with the kind of money Aston Villa want for him there are better options in the market that present less performance based risk, Soldado for one

The things is David Villa hasn't chosen Ath Madrid over us. Ath Madrid have agreed terms with Barca but not the player! We have probably agreed terms with David Villa but not with Barca. So currently we are not an option for David Villa because as far as Barca are concerned we shouldn't even have permission to talk with Villa.

I am having a REAL LOL moment with the suicide tendencies being displayed in this thread. I was never interested in him anyway so no loss to the club, yes at the price it was a steal BUT he may have chosen CL and not uprooting as a primary factor.

to the ITK guys keep up the good work chaps. I never saw a ITK saying it was DONE. close, agreed terms with player looking promising is not the same as DONE. you guys do a splendid job keeping us going in the off season. So JJ, Rebrab, Ryan, greyfox,Valyid keep the ITK spilling over oh and you Storts.

Through the eyes of DV it is a no brainer to choose AM over us. He will stay in Spain, no dramatic changes for his family, no need to learn a new language, playing CL football, playing for a great team ( just like us ), and playing in a league that he already knows and understands.

We most likely missed out due to demographic's and geographic's, if it was a Brit choosing between Arsenal and AM we would all presume that he would want to stay in him homeland, so why can't a Spaniard do the same.

Agree with most of this post, but it's not just Levy, it's also Baldini who need to realise this too

I was desperately hoping to see the back of both Defoe and Ade this window but that is looking increasingly unlikely now. We still have Bale though so if Levy blinks we might pick up one of Benteke or Soldado. That and a young prospect like Castillo would still be a very good window.

Everyone is so quick to blame Levy on this deal but has anyone actually thought that it was Villa who didn't fancy coming to us?

We heard from Villa's agent that he prefered Fiorentina and also heard he prefered any team with CL football, Villa probably chose Athletico Madrid over us due to the fact he knows the spanish league, knows he will score goals there and will probably be more in the eye of the Spanish manager which will give him a better chance of being selected for the world cup squad.

He probably didn't want to risk having to adapt to a new league in a world cup year.

Just a thought instead of constantly blaming Levy

my thoughts exactly....and I expect there's a letter in the post!!

It's frustrating but there's no need to slash our wrists yet. It's not surprising that other teams wanted a player of Villa's class. We probably made our pitch of a new adventure in PL, central role in team, Bale, and he went for staying in Liga and CL, I guess we'll never know if it was close call for him.

Ok I need to know what the FUCK happened with Villa, it seems like all of our ducks were in a row and then Kaboom Atletico got in there.

Barça surely didn't want to sell to a rival unless they had no other option. All the ITK was saying he was happy to come so that blows the CL football argument out of the water!

What happened? Did Levy meet his match with Rosell?

Which just goes to show…
