I can't believe I let myself get sucked in again. Every fucking window I tell myself not to get excited about players I'd love us to sign...Vucinic, Forlan, Suarez, Moutinho, and now Villa...and every fucking time I get my heart broken over players we probably had no realistic chance of getting in the first place. Bastard lemmings learn quicker than me.

Seriously I feel cursed. If we ever get linked to a player that I really want us to sign, you can bet your house on us missing out. Bony to Swansea is the salt in the wound.

Oh and I'd love us to sign Soldado too so you can kiss that muvafucka goodbye.

Soldado has never felt right to me. People always go, Valencia are skint, but they never just give away their stars, IE Villa from £30m, Mata for 23m. £25m for a 28-year-old, it just doesn't feel like our style.

Guessing wages will be high as well. Where as Benteke is only on £20k at Villa.

Exactly. David Villa may have only been £7m but a hefty wage packet. We could probably get Benteke on £50-60k a week.

Yeah, chuck a few performance bonuses in should do the trick. Unless Chelsea are in for him.

Can't see it though, they have Lukaku. What would be the point?

In several of the games Villa were under the cosh and Benteke wasn't really in the game. I'm not sure how much of that was Benteke and how much of that was Villa.

Fair point. But perhaps it was just the opposition were stronger as a unit overall in a lot of instances.

I'm truly delighted if there is legs in all this, I've been banging the Benteke drum for ages. I'm not saying he was sensational BC, just that his all round game and the raw attributes he possesses impress me. In other words I see him getting better. He really bully's the fuck out of defenders as well.

Another point I've made repeatedly.

A large fee yes, but when you consider his age and wages not likely to be obscene its not as high risk as some are making out.

Most of the times when I saw Benteke play he looked pretty average. As you say, it could be due to the poor team he was in, but at the same time poor teams can make average or slightly above average players (especially strikers) look like world beaters simply because everything is geared towards them. Look at Bent when he was at Charlton, or Suarez at Liverpool.

Not saying Benteke wouldn't necessarily be good for us, but scoring a lot of goals for a shit team isn't a guarantee of quality.

villa plus wages would equal Benteke plus wages over three years

and Benteke could still be worth a vast sum in three years time, probably more than he is today. Not surprised at all that Levy is stepping up with this...

I feel Benteke would be young and good enough not to have to buy 2 out and out strikers. Keep Ade sell Defoe and bring in a goal scoring wide player

On the contrary, I think that their selling prices are slightly on the low side and this comes from being financially weak. Look at how much teams like Porto, Shakthar extract for their players because they are rich and don't need to sell. Silva and Mata were both finite talents, probably the most highly rated available AMs in Europe at the time and at perfect ages of low 20s - Silva went for £24m to a Man City who were overpaying for all kinds of players at the time, and Mata for £23m at a price that we were very much interested in. Both of those players went for undervalued prices and Valencia could have extracted more out of the likes of Chelsea and City if they had been financially great. Modric, Willian etc etc these guys go for 30m +

With Soldado being a bit older, and them still being in poor health, it could be possible to get him below his actual value.

Hell, it was his all round game that impressed me more than his goal tally - although that was impressive for a debut season. Funny how people can see it so differently.

You're saying Suarez is just above average? Really strange thing to say mate, he's clearly one of the best players in the world even though he's a horrible little shit, and even if he was the main man up there.

Don't agree with that train of thought either. And on that basis everybody and their dog outside of Tottenham would be saying the same about Bale.

No I didn't mean Suarez was average. In an earlier post I listed him as one of the players I really wanted us to sign when he was at Ajax. He's phenomenal. It was just another opportunity to have a dig at Lolerpool.

I wouldn't get too excited about Benteke anyway. We'll miss out on him, and our back-up, and our back-up back-up, and end up bringing in Frazier fucking Campbell on loan with no option to buy.

Waaaaaaa

As for Bent, I don't think he ever looked like a world beater at Charlton. He was decent and scored a lot of goals for them. That's about it. Personally I find Benteke's overall contribution to be light years beyond the capacity of a player like Bent (hence the latter not getting so much as a look in ahead of the former last season).
