We could play Dembele - Paulinho - Carroll/Holtby in a midfield 3 against relegation fodder; we are likely to have the lion share of possession so there would be less of a requirement for a defensive midfielder.

Not so much Holtby but Carroll has potentially the best passing range in our squad; he could easily sit back and let Paulinho and Dembele do the bursting forward.

I've thought for a while that Dembele would be much better when he's not burdened with the defensive duties he had last season, so playing him as part of a midfield three should do that.

Agree about Carroll. I do think that we need a Bernard esque player though for when we play Sandro-Dembele-Paulinho in the middle. We'll struggle to breakdown the opposition like last season if we don't get one.

We'll see how he gets on next season and admittedly I never watched him at Schalke. However what I have seen from Lewis Holtby in a Spurs shirt is a workhorse who presses and hounds the ball very effectively. It has certainly not been anywhere near a creative genius.

I don't see that as a negative though, quite the contrary actually so I am certainly not writing him off. I do however see him being used as back-up to the obvious midfield three of Sandro, Pauly and Dembele.

This is why I think we need a proper creative attacker as part of the front three.

Paulinho, Benteke/Damaio & Chadli. Good summer. Maybe Oliviera/Rebic too if Ade or Defoe leave.
Keeping AVB and Bale too, great summer.
Add a couple of cheaper/promising youngsters, technical, eager and with potential, in so replacing Gallas, Bentley, Parker etc, and everyone's a winner.

Yeah yeah that should be good, yeah good summer, yeah not bad at all and that little lot should only set us back about £65 MILLION POUNDS FFS!

Honestly what planet are people on - one of the world's best box-to-box midfielders, one or two £20m+ strikers and a new £7-10m winger we don't need and that would rate as a "good summer". Oh and maybe another striker or two to throw as well eh? Fuck it lets try and get Saurez too then maybe we could upgrade the summer rating to 'not that shit'.

In fact, if we are playing 4-3-3 our midfield is unbelievably strong with great options

Starting:Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho.

In reserve: Carroll and Holtby

Lots of energy pace and power.

For thhe front three though, we have:

Starting: Bale, Ade, Lennon

Back-up: Townsend, Defoe

With the 4-3-3 formation you need goals and creativity to come from all of the front 3. I'm suspicious as to how many goals Lennon and Townsend would score and create between them. Not a vast amount, I would imagine.

Add to this the mixed form of Defoe and Ade last season, then it could be another year of Bale-ing out unless we improve those options and add goals and creativity.

As far as the Dempsey/Levy comparison goes, I don't think it's remotely close. I don't understand how anyone could look at the progress we have made under Levy and say he's cost us much or certainly more than he's gained us. Just look at where we are and what we are watching now, the training complex, the youth teams, the new stadium on it's way and tell me he's failed in his remit as a chairman of a self sustaining football club ?

LOL you must be another one of those bastard sons of Levy that A&C is always going on about (y)

I did! Sorry, it's late!

Yes, Siggy I have hopes for overr all of the other attacking squad players. I think he's on the edge though. Not sure if he should be a starter.

Didn't include Dempsey because I just can't see him being retained if we are moving to that formation. Think we'll sell him tbh...

Where would you play him as clearly he looks best in the middle and the signing of paulinho is almost replacing him for the role we brought him for

On the wing he doesn't look comfortable especially with no creative spark in the middle and bale on the other side leaves us narrow

Holtby has a whole other side to his game that Spurs fans are yet to see.

Lol but why do so many of levy's bastard sons support other teams? Go on other teams message boards and see what they think of levy. They will mostly say that he is one of the best chairmen in the league. It's only our own supporters that think he's a ****.

I was a bit reluctant to post. Also jake should be off to Norwich on loan. Neither transfer is close. No ideas on players coming in.

Thanks for sharing. I'll be interested to see how Livermore does with consistent match minutes. If he were to perform at a good level, he could really have some good value either as a backup to Sandro or in a sale.

The other thing I heard (sorry not spurs related) Fulham want Bent.

Maybe with the new money that will change

If you want me to I can delete the post where I quoted you as I see that post is gone now. Thanks for sharing. Heard the bit about Bent to Fulham elsewhere, but can't remember where.
