Whether it happens or not, this is the sort of itk that makes transfer windows tick.
If you don't take anything too seriously, it's good clean fun.

If we loaned him and paid 100% of his wages would we really be smashing our wage structure? It's his Madrid contract after all. He's gonna be making more than all of our players regardless of who foots the bill.

The question is can we afford to chuck a load of money into a short term deal with no resale? I'd say with our rapid increases in turnover it may be the best time for an opportunity like this.
Yes, almost double. He is on a ludicrous 350k p/w.

You were missing my point. Regardless of how much we would be contributing, he's still going to get paid his £350k. I'm not sure our wage limit is as relevant in a loan deal. In the unlikely event that this deal happened I think it'd be treated as an extraordinary circumstance.

Been contact with Bale!

GB wants (ideally) to come back to us.

Thanks Trix! Thanks Herc! So i go off the grid 10 minutes before Trix's epic post. Come back on line and see that the ITK post has grown by 5 pages and have over two hours to drive before i can sit down and digest the turn of events.

Perhaps the biggest piece of news wasn't the negotiation but Herc's commentary that he wants to come back. There is an old saying that when two people are determined to do business, they'll figure out a way to get it done. If Bale truly wants to come back, then he'll have flexibility on his part. RM will have flexibility and one would hope that Levy doesn't have to do the limbo to bring it home.

Don’t destroy me but I’m a contrarian on Bale’s return.

I loved him at Spurs and he gave me some of my greatest moments watching Spurs (and I saw my first game in August 1961) but I’d rather have the memories than be disappointed watching Bale as he now is.

And I’d rather the club built for the future than looked to the past.

Bale is far from past it yet. Yes he doesn't have the electric pace that made him the player he is today, but similar to Ronaldo, he can adapt his game to become a striker if necessary. I think a player of his calibre offers our club so much more than just on field attributes, he brings a wealth of experience with him and that is invaluable to us at the moment.

If a deal is doable and we get those moments of magic out of him again, I'm all for it. Just make sure Madrid foots the bill for a high percentage of his wages, it was their mistake to offer him such a high wage.

Aren't the reported wages he is on a whopping £600k a week ? Or is that reputed figure a whopper in itself, and over inflated by real amount £250k a week ?
Either way, unless Real massively subsidise his wages I just can't see Levy offering that kind of money, yes there may have been contact I'm prepared to believe that, but this will surely be the bit that leads to it getting nowhere near off the ground if Real refuse to massively subsidise...

£600K per week is before the Spanish Tax, which would give him roughly £350K after tax which is the number we should be focusing on.

Levy finally found naming rights deal. Get Bale on loan and play at the Real Madrid stadium until he leaves. Finances sorted

I mean... he is the person in charge... :cautious:

Isnt his the same line trotted out every time we go for a unattainable player (unattainable by our standards anyway)? Closely followed by the well DL did try...

Surely he should have a pretty good idea from the initial contact with Madrid wether this is goer or not.. I.e if they are willing to contribute to his wages if so what percentage etc. If not then instead of wasting endless hours trying to negotiate a deal that won’t happen why doesn’t he put his effort into signing a more realistic target.

Why? Even if this is indeed a loan deal, his wages wouldn’t suddenly become untaxable.

Don't quote me on it, but this was discussed a while ago pertaining to the way tax is done over there vs the UK and the percentage being much higher there if I'm not mistaken.

Kind of overlooked it yesterday at the time because he’s never posted info before as far as I can recall, but a poster called jono on FTL yesterday lunch time started a Bale thread just saying,

“Is coming. Take it to the bank.”

In keeping with the general spirit of this thread I thought I’d be the first to say how damn foolish and shortsighted it was of Levy not to build a golf course outside the new stadium.

FFS Levy!

Ah but we can roll back the pitch and GB can practice to his hearts content on the lovely artificial surface. Don’t tell Gareth all the golf courses are so wet many have been closed for a lot of the last month or he might stay in Spain
