Initial fee shouldn't matter too much with KWP. What should be important is tacking on appearance fees and sell on clauses so if it does turn out we've dropped a bollock then we can at least cash in a bit.

If Levy gets 17m i'll be amazed.

But it's more likely we'll negotiate until the cows come home then come the 1st of Feb KWP is still with us before eventually leaving on loan and making the move permanent in the summer for something like 10-12m.

20m is bloody ridiculous imo. No wonder people fume at Levy. And rightly so.

He's a 10-12m player. 15m tops.
Trippier was slated on here left, right and center with people desperate for him to be replaced by none other than KWP, yet we got 25m for him.

Herc has said previously that massive sell on was wanted in the Palace deal, assume similar for Brighton, would mean lower fee.

Matt Targett went for £17m
Targett played best part of 90 games before Villa.

KWP has played 24 in his whole career.

Not comparing them as players but surely KWP is worth less than that (less inflation). Not like he has ripped up trees.

20 chuffing million for KWP? Uh, waaaaaa?
Let's put the shoe on the other foot.
Would Levy be open to spending 20M on a RB, from let's say, Liverpool, who has only ever started 3 or 4 premier league games in three years? I don't think so. That evaluation is arguably delusional.

Palace got £50m for all of one season's worth of RB who couldn't get into the England (U21 etc) squads ahead of KWP. Norwich want £35m (so say) for Aarons, who has less than a season in the PL and isn't really standing out that much.

Considering we are short on RBs, I would say that asking £20m is a good asking price. Either team could play him for a season and double their money if he plays as well for them as he has for us in his cameos.

But he was an experienced seasoned International that just played in a WC semi.

The valuation of each player are totally different.

For a start our club doesn't really rate him that highly.

Nice to see Herc' say we are being very flexible with payment terms to help KWP with his choice of club.

You want to buy that Mini Metro I mentioned

Errrr I don't know....does it drive OK ? Well I've only been to the corner shop and back a few times and it seemed ok. But I take my other car when there's any distance. Why's that ? Oh no reason

Hmm ok. How much do you want for it ?

20k.

20k !? Yes but don't worry I'll give you 5 years to pay for it

Deal ?

To be fair KWP has not really had a proper chance to show his true level. But I would guess that he could play in any mid table side and do a good job. I would say £20 million does seem fair..

I would imagine that KWP is on pretty low wages too. 20 mil plus the cost of whatever his contract might be could well be more cost efficient than a 5 mil player on decent wages. Either way, hope he gets the opportunity to play regularly wherever he ends up and whatever he goes for.

Just a reminder that Kevin Wimmer was sold for £15m when the world wasn't as crazy as it is today. Personally, I hope we sell KWP for a small fee and a decent buy back AND sell on fee. He's a good lad, but needs to grow.

I'd take 15m in a heartbeat. Regardless of comparisons to players like Wimmer etc if a player simply doesn't have the physicality to make it at the top level you can't expect top dollar.

I'd honestly be surprised if he's still in the top division in 2 or 3 years. IMO he needs to move abroad and find a league where his technique can shine and he won't get bullied.

Crystal palace are now an established Premier league team who are looking for a RB they deem good enough to play in the Premier league. If they believe KWP is good enough to play in the Premier league they'll have to pay Premier league prices, or else they can look in the championship for cheaper options.

Worth understanding value and cost for players development too

example - the amount of free coaching the kids get costs an absolute fortune, well over 100k a year for a championship club to provide so a club like spurs probably looking at a good 259/309k a year investment in each player.
You say a kid has been there since 9, it’s a fair whack. Costs go up considerably when 13 and again at scholar - money needs to be recouped, otherwise you operate at a loss.

So the criticism is now player pricing? Well it’s not exactly groceries is it? Considering the amounts he got for the likes of Bale and Modric I don’t begrudge him the freedom to get the best possible price for players

He got ripped off for Modric.

Anyway. This isn't the thread.
