Will be difficult to find someone suited in the winter. We need someone who can play with pace and control the ball while doing that. Not like Alli or Son who are sometimes like a pinball game.
Would be very happy with Barkley as well though, even if he is not most needed.

I don't take Trix's info to mean that we will necessarily be targeting only players with PL experience, moreso that Poch is not interested in bringing in any "ones for the future" during the middle of the season regardless of where they come from.

The likes of Janssen, GKN, and Njie were young, highly inexperienced players we brought in off the back of their breakout seasons and who have needed time. That's different than Son, who while young had been producing at a high level in the Bundesliga and CL for years before we bought him and who factored into the first XI picture as soon as he arrived.

I'm not going to start wishlisting but there are definitely players from outside the PL who will be available in January who fit the Son mold moreso than the GKN mold.

My guess is we will sell Carroll, buy nobody, and say that we could not find anyone suitable at the right price.

Going by the ITK it looks like Zaha, Bruma and Barkley are our targets. We won't get 2 never mind all 3. Think we'll go for Zaha then Bruma if that fails... and if Bruma is a no go we'll go in balls deep for Barkley and end up with a good player albeit one we don't desperately need.

ali z again on zaha and sissoko : As far as I understand it they refused all bids and told us to go away , they were not selling and player wanted to come of course if we paid over the odds 35 - 40 m prehaps we could have got him, as for Sissoko I am going to say this again it is not 30 m it could rise to 30 m but we it won't.
Nothing has changed. Zaha is not for sale. They are looking to add players. (Jay Rodriguez)

Zaha is OK but I think we can do better, and then we'll have to pay the English premium. I'd rather us not bother in all honesty, might as well just give Edwards a shot.

I don't think Barkley is the right fit either, we need someone who makes better decisions in the final third.

But that's where the coaching comes in as well, to help him to make better decisions and refine his game etc

He needs better guidance imo, have to remember he's probably stagnated a bit under Martinez as well.

Could just as easily be none. If you are fussy and only want specific targets January is not the time to buy. Add into the equation a limited budget and wage cap, and things get harder still.

All 3 as individuals will push/exceed our highest ever transfer fee. I can't see us signing any of them.

Bruma? Please no. Screams "searching for mane cause we didn't actually do that". I have watched Bruma and Gala many a time and it makes me wonder who the fuck our scouts are. Bruma is more balding dreadlock winger of Arsenal past and the Ivory Coast.

As for the player in the league? I think that is a bad idea. Hear me out.

Will this purchase be a first team player that is first name on sheet every time? A Cazorla or Silva? No.

Will it be a player that knocks one of our current starters out of their positions? Maybe.

So who is it? Zaha and Barkley make sense due to rumors. But do those players step in and push us higher? Maybe.

Are those players long term investments? For me, NO! And that is why we keep our money and wait.

If we spend this window and chase for fourth by bringing in Zaha for another 30m, that takes a huge hit on finances and doesn't guarantee us anything. Zaha for me is just chasing fire.

We had our chance this summer to be smart with our money and time yet we slipped horribly. The scouts, the coaches, the management need to be tactical this time around and really ask themselves. Is this an investment I am confident in?

Cause I for one know what I said this summer with every rumor of our potential signings outside Wanyama. "Really? Where's the intent?" I think a blind man could tell you what we were getting in Sissoko and GKN. Janssen was more of a mystery as he produced in a fairy tale league for strikers.

I hope people are not getting their hopes up on signing Zaha. Crystal Palace are adamant he's not for sale! They are also looking at a couple of our players.

Good! Keep him in my book. Never been a fan but also not saying he his shit. He will be a steady threat throughout his career, but he is right where he needs to be in my opinion.

Breezer, I'm not expecting us to sign Zaha but if they are looking at some of our players and if Zaha made it clear enough that he wanted to go then isn't there room there for a possible deal to be done? Depending on who they want from us of course.

I'd say that if we are only going to try for players who can make an immediate impact - reading between the line - I'm guessing that means all in for Isco again or we get nobody.
