Considering Skipp and Wanyama trained today which indicated that their departures aren’t imminent and the lack of quality ones that are feasible it makes sense to ride the season out best we can then address it properly in the summer.

Rose was there at training today and he is going

Either he's truly changed his style entirely, he thinks he's got a solution already, or he's got targets in mind that are not attainable in January and wants to keep his powder dry.

I think we desperately need one but can see the argument that if the right target isn't available it'd be best to wait. I'd be sorely disappointed if it isn't addressed in the summer, though.

Presumably he’d rather wait until he can bring in one he wants, which is hard to do in January.

Either that or he wants to give Tanguy a good run there.

Yeah, I guess it comes down to the semantics of whether he doesn’t think we need one based on the January options available or he doesn’t think we need one at all.

I’d actually prefer we wait until summer. Think there will be a lot of excellent options available then.

I think the word you're looking for is "advised", rather than "forced".

Yeah fair enough he’s probably advising him that if he stays for another couple of years he can leave on a free and get a huge signing on fee and wages somewhere else.

My point though is that Bale cannot be that desperate to leave, otherwise he’d tell his agent thanks for the advice, but I just want to leave ASAP.

Maybe the golf course there is better than whitewebbs...

JJ just replied to me on Twitter basically saying Mourinho doesn't want a DM lmfao.

OK it may be we have someone lined up in the future. However I think there is a chance that JM wants more versatile players in his new system.

I am probably in a minority of one but have never been a believer in the need to have an out and out DM.

Not sure about pioneering position, but for sure José did not take this appointment for the money, after the last few years for what ever reason his reputation has tarnished.
I think hope we are the team for him to prove himself again.
I laughed when I heard he was appointed, but now I think i suits us both.
He has to succeed with us, so I can believe he has targets we can’t get at the moment.
It’s not as if he didn’t know how levy works.
Hopefully we do get a striker he wants , if not, it’s a summer rebuild.

There is a thread in spurs chat about formations, probably best for the DM talk to move there

How does the man who pioneered the “Makelele position” look at our team and say nah doesn’t need a defensive midfielder.
To be fair that Makelele position died off several years ago. Midfielders need to be more dynamic than just a specialist at one thing. Maybe Jose is moving with the times. I think Ndombele and Lo Celso would make a quality dynamic pairing who can both spring counter attacks.

I’m with you on this, there was ITK that we had been offered Emre Can, a damn good DM who we turned down. If JM really wants a DM I suspect he will get one, Levy won’t much JM about or he will get a press firestorm and end up losing the manager he seems to have wanted for a while!

Anyone else a smidge confused about today's influx of info and cryptics? Eg: someone at the training ground, but not a striker. A seemingly unsolvable cryptic about Hamlet soiling himself. One itk saying there's less than fifty percent chance we land a striker. But jj saying it's pretty certain. Oh, and apparently bale is still a pipedream, in case anyone had forgotten. And maybe jose willian is in the equation as is Giroud.

Suffice to say we have reached the bonkers end of the window!! So, thank u to all the folks willing to share what they know... Even when stuff is evolving on an hourly basis. Very grateful. ?
