So if I'm getting this right, Liverpool and City are miles ahead of us. Chelsea are recruiting brilliantly. United can still spend shedloads and are bound to overtake us. So as we can't spend ourselves to compete, we are bound to fall further behind, scrapping for the Europa League places and crumbs in the transfer market.

Well, if I ever need to go to my happy place, this place isn't it!!!!

If the last few months have taught us anything, football may be our passion, but there are more important things.

So what if we finish 10th? Behind Arsenal? Behind West Ham? Kane goes to Newcastle?

Life goes on thankfully. Seasons, players, managers come and go.

We're a long time dead. So enjoy it when we win, don't let it ruin your day, weekend, year when we lose. Pick up the little crumbs of joy as you spot them and be grateful for every precious breath.

I think the squad is only a few pieces away from competing again, so the ITK about not spending is disappointing but completely understandable with the state of things. It unfortunately just doesn’t seem like a good summer to spend a lot of money. Also wouldn’t be surprised to see Levy pull something off if some clubs end up really needing sell over the summer though.

Poch said it many times in that we have to start 'acting like a big club' if we want to be close to Bayern, Madrid, Barcelona, Juventus etc and that we have to start thinking like them and we simply just really don't, that has to change. We still move in the market like we just want to battle for 4th IMO and have done so for years, even when we had a team that was closer to finishing 1st than finishing below 4th, we didn't push on. You're not serious about going for the title if you go into a season with one striker, one (average) RB, one (average) LB, no DM etc. Yes we do add to some degree but we still always just look to get by and not address our shortcomings.

It annoys me so much that I almost find it disgusting that we have one of the best strikers in the world at the club and we haven't adequately added to the team to compliment that. I am sure this period (the last few years) and beyond will only be looked at as missed opportunity, I just can't see us adding the necessary quality to what we already have now at all.

Not so sure on that. To compete we probably need a RB, LB, DCM and ST.

That's not considering GK and CB which are not far behind.

Pretty disgusting them spending that kind of money while people are losing their jobs and we’re just about to hit a global recession, don.’the you think?

Pretty disgusting we throw around millions for transfers and footballers salaries when lots of people in the world struggle for food and other basics, don't you think?
If they can afford it within the FFP rules fair play. Would not say no either if Joe Lewis would say now we invest.

is the lack of ambition actually just lack of funds due to the stadium loans and covid? I dunno. I feel if that’s what’s responsible then it’s justified but at the same time having all these posts about us doing pretty well financially compared to other clubs is kind of annoying at this rate if we are just gonna let clubs leap frog us.

really hard to get behind the owners. If clubs come in for some of our great players in Kane, Son, Alli, etc I wouldn’t be surprised if they requested to go if we aren’t matching their ambition.

You could repeat that by last 5 years and still didn't happen. And this summer it's even more unlikely.

I have heard that every year since I joined the site over a decade ago. It has never happened.

I am no great fan of Mr Levy but this is ( and I know the word has been overused over the last 4 months ) totally unprecedented and I cannot criticise the senior powers at the club for deciding that this would be a disastrous time to spend with impunity.
At the face of it we have a very good, if unbalanced squad with some great players. If there is a way to use the loan market and free transfers or even swap deals then I think we should be able to do that. With the recent investment into the club's infrastructure and long term financial stability it is just plain stupid to risk it. I said a few days ago that I think now would be a perfect time to appoint a director of football to help Steve Hitchen to develop the squad over the next 3-4 windows ( I realise Campos has been mentioned however unlikely that may be). Having said that if the club wished for a quick fix then one would have to say the sale of further big players would be the only way to overhaul the squad. But the more I think about it the less I believe overhaul is required. Key areas need real quality but I believe there is quality in other area of the team and a lot of potential.

They're spending the Hazard cash, they didn't use any of it due to the ban.
People do appear to be forgetting this.

Chelsea could only buy Kovacic in this season's 2 transfer windows. This means they spent £40m and sales amounted to £127m

They have sold or are selling Morata for £50m.

So they're spending now isn't the sign of their board now backing them.

You'd be surprised if they risked another FFP slap on the wrist.

Isn't FFP just over a 3 year period? So them selling over £100m last season and having that money spent now won't affect their FFP.

my point was they will spend what they earn transfer wise which at the moment looks like a fairly healthy kitty.

I an understand financial prudence right now with a totally uncertain future. It may be a year before supporters are allowed in to matches. Who knows what will happen. Criticised for using the Furlough scheme; with high overheads including wages to pay the priority must be financial survival
