Regarding Osimhen, can he play wide as well as upfront?

He can, but not ideally. He’s 6’4 with long legs and not a natural dribbler. So if on the wing, he floats centrally a lot. Not really a beat a man to the touch line and get a cross in type.

For me, he’s quite similar to Tammy Abraham in both playing style and body type.

I know nothing about this guy, but although it would be useful I don’t think it’s that important if he can play wide. We have Son, Lucas and Stevie for that.

And as I’ve said in the Kane thread I have a feeling we might see Kane drop back into a deeper SS/No.10 role in the not too distant future.

We need to buy a number 9 first and foremost.

Yeah I think it’d be more likely that Kane plays second striker off Osimhen than vice versa. Osimhen is a serious physical presence and will likely only get stronger as he’s only 21 and is quite skinny.

He wins 4.5 aerial duels per game which is 7th overall in Ligue 1 and would be top ten in the PL too, about the same amount as VVD, Maguire, Benteke, and Calvert-Lewin. For comparison, Kane has generally been between about 1.7-2.5 aerial duels per game in his career.

Osimhen would be a proper Mourinho target man who also brings a lot more to the table. I love it as a potential signing.

I both like the idea of Kane playing slightly deeper behind a target man, and also like the look of Osimhen. Only downside would be he'll be off the to ANC in January next year.

Osimhen looks a great player but we'd lose him for a large chunk of Jan to the African cup of nations.

Osimhen seems the part but is still a bit of a risk. One good season in a not particularly strong league, though in fairness it isn't the highest scoring league in the world. I highly doubt you will see Kane leave the number 9 role any time soon. So I would imagine this would be as a back-up/option from the bench.

Isn't every signing a bit of a risk though? We need a FWD, he's young, scores goals and can play up top or out wide. For me he should be our number one target for that elusive number 9 shirt of ours

Has there been ITK on Osimhen?

Hercules said we'd spoken to a couple of players, a midfielder and a striker, who've indicated that their willing to join in the summer. There's an assumption that it refers to players from Lille.

He should be less of a risk as he is very well known to most of our coaching staff who will know his personality and worked with him on a daily basis.

True. But, the same applied when Poch took Osvaldo to southampton, and he had performed for a much longer basis.

I would be happy with the signing for sure, but its not a mega statement signing either. Would fit what we need though. And as I said, I'd expect him to largely be a back up to can and option in a match rather than a way to bring Kane deeper. Which is what we need IMO.

Hasn't that changed and is in the summer?

The 2021 Africa Cup of Nations will start on 9 January after its dates were moved, hosts Cameroon have announced.

The tournament was scheduled to take place in June and July but was changed because of the "unfavourable" weather in the country at that time of year.

There are more and more games on the calendar, and that is why we need a bigger squad - to cope with the ever increasing demands.
Yes, we'd lose him for 4-5 weeks next January, but there'll be plenty of other games where we need to rest Kane and where he would be very useful. And during the ACN we might then blood young Mr. Parrot...

Ruben Dias mentioned in the papers again today. Do we wait for the summer before we start a thread about our interest?

Gedson Fernandes. I know this thread is closing soon, but what I have to say has to be said here. I believe he will be successful, but the 50m Euros option is way off the mark. We win PL/CL as example, and he plays ‘x’ amount of games, with ‘x’ amount of this, and ‘x’ amount of that, then we would be paying 50m. Hope that makes sense

Cheers Herc. So basically, 50M is the absolute max we'll pay, if the stars align and we win everything with him playing every game, otherwise it'll be less? Have I understood that correctly?

If so, I really hope we end up paying 50m :)

On a serious note, he's looked good so far when playing I think, you can easily see the raw potential he has. Hopefully he can be moulded into whatever Mourinho wants from a CM, as he obviously has the physical abilities to succeed in the PL.

His price goes up the more we win, so we'll end up paying about 50 quid.
