But ‘world class’ striker wasn’t an absolute necessity. If we are going to continue with this policy of lumping the ball up forwards then it was that of a target. Someone who could hold up the ball, whilst also bullying the central defenders. This tactic is of course not needed or desirable for the most, but it is one we’re trying to play, without the resources. In a way this ‘super striker’ wasn’t what we actually need, but a good, big, mobile, young bully. Maybe even someone from the lower leagues in order to give us an alternative option. If this guy can score goals then all the better, but it’s to help those around him who clearly cannot do this.

Don’t tell me there is not that player out there, even in this country.

If Jose didn't want them? We should buy them anyway against his wishes?

Happy about the signings we did make, but unhappy that we failed to address some of our glaring weaknesses.

I can understand not just bringing any old striker in, but if that was the policy why were we scrambling around on deadline day trying to sign the likes of Ighalo? It doesn't tally. Jose seems happy enough but he has also continually stated the need for a striker over the past few weeks.

The biggest plus of the window is sending a lot of the youngsters out on loan. Getting rid of Eriksen and Rose is strange - good in a sense as they obviously don't want to be here, but losing Eriksen is still a huge blow to this team despite his poor form over the last 12 months.

Hopefully I'm proven wrong but I think not bringing in a striker has cost us any chance of reaching the top 4 now.

We’re still fixing the problems caused in the two windows / 18 months where we didn’t sign any players.

Getting Eriksen and Rose out was massive IMO.

Getting youngsters out on loan was a return to common sense.

Bergwijn, Gedson and Lo Celso will all be big players for us, good business for sure!

We are building our squad properly again...

?? Heung-min Son: 27
?? Lucas Moura: 27
??????? Harry Kane: 26
??????? Ben Davies: 26
?? Tanguy Ndombele: 23
?? Giovani Lo Celso: 23
??????? Dele Alli: 23
??????? Harry Winks: 23
?? Davinson Sanchez: 23
?? Steven Bergwijn: 22
?? Juan Foyth: 22
?? Gedson Fernandes: 21
??????? Japhet Tanganga: 20
??????? Ryan Sessegnon: 19
??????? Jack Clarke: 19
?? Troy Parrott: 17

A striker would have been nice. Well, a lot more than nice. In fact it’s pretty negligent. Confused as to why we had no real plan, it’s not like Kane got injured last week, or hasn’t had missed lots of games due to injuries the last 3 years.

Jose has to change his tactics now, in the short term at least, as playing Moura as CF and going direct has not worked at all.

DCM and a back up CF in the summer and we’re looking very strong. Hopefully the reason we didn’t panic this week is that we have top drawer targets lined up for those positions in the summer. ???
Tanguy, GLC and Dele when all on form are so incredible and yet they are still only 23. Just couldn't understand the sticks Dele has gotten so far. He has probably not even peaked. Imagine the ceiling he has.

Really encouraging numbers from the ages here. Majority will be the spine for the future team and if they are abiding to Mourinho's coaching, things are really looking exciting ahead.

TBH, after some thoughts seeing how United bought Ighalo, do you guys not think will the dressing room be affected seeing how desperate the club is looking for a striker?

Maybe Son and Lucas will really hope for a striker to play upfront to alleviate their load. But also maybe they will appreciate the club for placing their trust in them that they are looking at the bigger picture and only get a striker that fits into the longer term of playing. That can be quite motivating as well.

I do think there is a silver lining to our window.

rock solid from cabinessence: JM has eye on someone for the summer who we can't get at the mo, but he has signaled his enthusiasm to sign, so back-up striker was only ever going to be a loan with option to buy, just in case they tore the place up. But obligation to buy was not an option. With the Polish striker, DL was prepared to accept obligation, but only if he could put performance conditions in there that he could control, such as number of appearances. Would have been ok, had not Hertha come in with permanent bid. Pretty much the same with all the other options, where clubs were insisting on obligations. Plus the players knew they were only stop-gap till the summer, so weren't exactly bursting at the seams to sign. And before you ask, no idea whatsoever who the summer fella is

I think some are truly underestimating the importance of Rose and Eriksen being out of the mix, plus a few other unhappy ones sorted (KWP loaned out).

Considering we were told to expect only loans and there were snippets about GLC not being wanted, making that permanent plus adding Gedson on loan and Bergwijjn on a permanent is great imo.

I was looking forward to Balotelli, or seeing Rylan Clark up front, but have to balance the latter against the fact that Chelsea whined about their transfer ban, then brought in no one!

A lot of things now make sense.

A bit disappointed that we didn't sign a striker, but it was obvious that we only wanted a temporary solution before addressing it properly in the summer. Lots of people were disappointed that Moura didn't start in the champions League final last year so he was clearly seen as adequate cover for Kane then so it's hard to say that he's not good enough now. Maybe Jose might need to change his tactics to get the best out of him and Son. We've also added Bergwijn to the squad who can also play centrally. He looks like he could be a great signing. No idea about Gedson, but Jose seems to be a big fan.
It's going to be interesting to see what we do in the summer. Jose seems to have much better contacts than any of our previous managers and seems to play the system Better. I wouldn't be surprised to see us make a Bosman signing for one of the positions that we need to fill.

Great to see so many young players going out on loan. Im really happy about that.

When it comes to incomings. Really happy about Lo Celso. Bergwijn and Gedson are two for the future. But we did not manage to get players in for the most vital positions. Missing out on a striker when Kanes been out for a whole month, leaving the club with a lot of time to get one in. That is a huge failure. And can be the reason we miss out on a chance of competing over the 4th place. Hopefully Parrot will get som minutes now. Also the squad still looks very thin, two fullbacks out on loan and no natural back ups. And a very thin midfield. Hopefully some of the younger players as Tanganga and Parrot rises to the ocation. Excited to see Bergwijn but I think he will need at least this season to adjust so I do not expect wonders from him just yet.

over all I think this transfer window was a failure.

I wanted a striker just as much as anyone but when you see Villa signing Borja Baston and Man United signing Odion Ighalo it makes you realise the pool of strikers was ridiculously shallow and full of absolute shite.

Personally I’m disappointed we couldn’t get Piatek or Giroud but if we cut out this long ball rubbish, the likes of Lo Celso, Ndombele, Bergwijn and Dele should be able to create huge numbers of opportunities for Son.

If the unknown player has signaled a willingness to join in the summer, I have every confidence that Levy will do what's necessary to ensure that we 100% get the signing over the line in the summer.

No surprise at all that players on the whole aren't willing to be six month stop gaps, the realists in this thread have been saying this all window. The Piatek deal would've been good for us but I definitely understand why he'd rather choose to be guaranteed starter at Hertha instead.

The news of a summer striker signing is exciting.

Anyone really that surprised?

I was disappointed that we couldn't get a striker but at least there's been progress with the arrivals of Fernandes and Bergwijn and a handful of departures so it isn't all bad.

Another positive is that after a very slow few weeks, we had a blinding final week in this thread which was good fun for a change, that's the way this football lark is supposed to be.

I spent ages trying to decide how to summarise the transfer window and eventually gave up, so I came up with this..........

meh

I got 99 problems and Spurs ain't one of them.

Laters, see you in the summer.

PS: Huge thanks to those of you who donated, bollocks to those of you who didn't, but it's not too late to redeem yourself :D

Attempted redemption. £100 in the pot. Well done Rob and all the mods. ?

It’s a shame we didn’t manage to get a striker in but that should never have been a problem in this window, that should have been sorted in the summer and was always going to be tough in Jan. hopefully we can muddle through and if TP signs we can get some minutes into him.

otherwise I thought our business was good, tidied up the squad and bought in a couple of exciting young players with potentially massive ceilings. Also cleared a couple of players who didn’t want to be here and getting some valuable min

hopefully Jose is as happy as Herc said and we can finish the season strong.

thanks for all the info and effort on here, this week has been good fun!

The summer window is going to be massive. There is clearly going to be a huge number of players to move on, and 4 or 5 positions to strengthen in order to give Jose the squad he needs to challenge.

I'd disagree with that as ...

(a) I only think we only need 2-3 players, and
(b) bringing in 5 more players could result in another transitional season.

Bringing in 2-3 at most every year to keep things fresh is the way to go IMO. For example, this summer we could bring in a monster CB (like Koulibaly), an athletic LB and a back up CF, and we would have a very strong squad that will challenge on all fronts...

LLORIS
Gazzaniga
TANGANGA -- ALDERWEIRELD -- KOULIBALY -- LEFT-BACK
Aurier --------- Dier/Foyth ------- Sanchez ------Davies
GEDSON --- NDOMBELE
Sissoko ----- Winks
LO CELSO
Dele/Lamela
BERGWIJN ------- KANE ------------- SON
Moura ---------- BACK-UP-CF ---- Sessegnon

ITK is a rollercoaster, it ebbs and flows and some things that we are privy to don't come off but the ride is always fun.

It's pointless getting angry with Jose, the players, ENIC and Levy. Unless the fans put together a consortium to buy the club or stop going to matches only countries (City) or genuine billionaires (Chelsea) can change the direction of the club.

We as people can choose to support our club and as individuals, we choose how much money we put into it, does this mean the club owes us or the players have some sort obligation to us? Not really but they have an obligation to themselves and their families as it is very unlikely that they will ever have that earning potential ever again, so Eriksen (our best player for the last 5 years including Kane) wanted a fresh challenge and higher wages, there's nothing wrong with that and Levy wanted as much money as he could get and there's nothing wrong with that either, although that business decision meant he stayed longer than he should have.

Pochettino (love that man) gave us two of the best nights I've ever had as a Spurs fan just last year (City, Ajax), we also smashed Real Madrid at home, have outplayed every team in the league (albeit sadly not always in the same season) and has taken our club from 4th hopefuls to CL regulars, was it time for him to go? Almost definitely, his system was based on belief and as soon as that belief started to disappear, so did the foundations of his tenure, we now have a very tactical coach, proven at every level, will it be the correct coach at the right time? It is too early to tell but the signings we have made points to a rebuild and another title push in the coming years (imho).

I love when ITK comes off, it makes me look knowledgeable to my Spurs mates and having the "inside track" of the clubs goings-on, weirdly makes feel a stronger affiliation to "my" club. So thank you to all that provide the information it genuinely is appreciated and a massive thank you to the mods and staff who allow this great forum to be run and for my ramblings on other (The Brexit) threads, I have gained more knowledge and information from here than I have from countless books ever since I stopped being a lurker many years ago and plumped up the courage to create a profile and start posting.

Threw some money in the coffers last night as we all should because without this site I'd probably have to go and socialise in person with other people *yuck*.

I really believe we did the best we could have done this window. We managed to receive a decent fee for Eriksen and replace him with a young talented Bergwijn. A player with creativity and pace with so much potential. We have signed Lo Celso on a permanent deal, another player with so much potential and talent.

Gedson Fernandes looks another promising youngster. We have seen the rise of Tanganga who is like a new signing. Toby has signed a new contract. Personally I don’t think we need another CB with Toby, Tanganga, Verts, Sanchez and Foyth.

This Summer we signed 2 players I have wanted for a long time in Ndombele and Sess. Ndombele in my opinion is huge coup for the club, he was the no1 player I wanted.

Yes I would of loved a striker, however that should of been done in the Summer or we should of kept Llorente. I don’t know what Poch, Levy and co were thinking, unless they thought young Parrott was ready. When you consider that Man U bought Ighalo on massive wages, there really was not much strikers available with quality. If you listen to Mourinho’s press conference he said he would even prefer a striker that can play with Kane.

If you look at our squad we have no more space for non homegrown players. Therefore there is not much we can bring in until players leave. In the Summer hopefully we can bring in Eze and Aarons which will improve our homegrown quota with some more young talent.

Plus you never know over the next six months, Parrott may have developed further and therefore we won’t need another striker in the Summer. Mourinho seems to rate Winks as a dm, plus we have Dier and Skipp (who looks so talented). Arguably if we have bought 2 new players as a striker and a dm it would of blocked the path of of Skipp and Parrott. This is why the club wanted a loan for a striker I feel.

The squad is not perfect however we have so much talent. If Ndombele can get a run of games it could make a massive difference to our season. I am optimistic we can still have a decent season. COYS!
