Anyone really that surprised?

I was disappointed that we couldn't get a striker but at least there's been progress with the arrivals of Fernandes and Bergwijn and a handful of departures so it isn't all bad.

Another positive is that after a very slow few weeks, we had a blinding final week in this thread which was good fun for a change, that's the way this football lark is supposed to be.

I spent ages trying to decide how to summarise the transfer window and eventually gave up, so I came up with this..........

meh

I got 99 problems and Spurs ain't one of them.

Laters, see you in the summer.

PS: Huge thanks to those of you who donated, bollocks to those of you who didn't, but it's not too late to redeem yourself :D

Nice to see us sending some of the youngsters out on loans again, that so important for their development.
A bit disappointed in the striker situation but I cant say I'm surprised and I wasnt overly keen any of the available options.
Gedson is a good deal and you've got to love an out of the blue signing like Bergwijn.

Good fun to be had in the transfer threads too, so thanks to the itk's, mods and especially A&C for making it possible.

Cheers.

Great window. Thanks for making the business side of it fun.

Just glad to have lost two unmotivated players, squad harmony should be the biggest gain we have made this window.

Ahh the morning after the night before. Reflecting on our business in this window it’s hard to not feel positive:

* Lo Celso permanently from an excellent fee and a long contract

* Bergwijn on a long contract giving us real pace on the counter attack

* Fernandes in who we expect to be a calming influence in the centre of the park with the ability to score from range.

3 excellent signings with some great business to move players on.

* Rose out with Mourinho being pretty clear he has been acting unprofessionally

*Eriksen out for a great price

* Plenty of the young lads getting out on loan to help their development.

There also seemed to be clear hints at players for the summer in Eze, Arrons, and Soumare. There seems to be a direction to our transfers again bringing players with loads of potential to impact the team which seemed to have been lost under Pochettino.

However you can’t help but feel we let ourselves down with not bringing in a striker. I know Herc has suggested there are financial reasons for this but we absolutely should have added a striker given how central such a player is to what Mourinho wants to do.

Let’s hope Parrott can force an opportunity soon. That we hear about new deals for Tanganga and Parrott. Potentially early announcements of signings like Eze and a strong end to the season.

Thanks to the mods and ITKs once again for keeping this part of the forum going

We’re still fixing the problems caused in the two windows / 18 months where we didn’t sign any players.

Getting Eriksen and Rose out was massive IMO.

Getting youngsters out on loan was a return to common sense.

Bergwijn, Gedson and Lo Celso will all be big players for us, good business for sure!

We are building our squad properly again...

?? Heung-min Son: 27
?? Lucas Moura: 27
??????? Harry Kane: 26
??????? Ben Davies: 26
?? Tanguy Ndombele: 23
?? Giovani Lo Celso: 23
??????? Dele Alli: 23
??????? Harry Winks: 23
?? Davinson Sanchez: 23
?? Steven Bergwijn: 22
?? Juan Foyth: 22
?? Gedson Fernandes: 21
??????? Japhet Tanganga: 20
??????? Ryan Sessegnon: 19
??????? Jack Clarke: 19
?? Troy Parrott: 17

A striker would have been nice. Well, a lot more than nice. In fact it’s pretty negligent. Confused as to why we had no real plan, it’s not like Kane got injured last week, or hasn’t had missed lots of games due to injuries the last 3 years.

Jose has to change his tactics now, in the short term at least, as playing Moura as CF and going direct has not worked at all.

DCM and a back up CF in the summer and we’re looking very strong. Hopefully the reason we didn’t panic this week is that we have top drawer targets lined up for those positions in the summer. ???

UPDATE:
The club have spent considerable money since last summer.

OUT:
Trippier £19.8M
Eriksen £18M
Janssen £8.1M
N’Koudou £3.6M
Rose £2M (loan fee)
TOTAL = £51.5M

IN:
Ndombele £58.5M
Lo Celso £27.2M activated permanent option + original £14.4 loan Fee = £41.6M
Bergwijn £27M
Sessegnon £24.3M
Clarke £9.9M
Gedson £4.05M (loan fee) + Permanent Option = £56M
TOTAL = £165.35M (potentially rising to £221.35M)

Net Spend = £113.85M (potentially rising to £168.85M)

I’d have loved a striker but, Cavani aside, having seen the quality of striker to have moved this window when so many sides have been desperate for a good front man, I think we have done the right thing. Bergwijn is a great but, Gedson looks to have something about him and I’m delighted that Lo Celso has been made permanent, albeit that’s not exactly a success of the window.

Hopefully Eriksen and Rose finally leaving benefits the squad harmony, and hopefully the lack of a striker signing means Parrott is more likely to get the minutes needed to make fill that striker void himself.

It’s still a touch imbalanced, particularly midfield, but we’ve been left with a healthier squad than we entered the window. If Parrott, Sessegnon and Tanganga kick on over the final months that’s three positions sorted out in the most pleasing way possible.

Striker would have been the icing on the cake but it just was not meant to be.

The big plus for me is getting Eriksen and Rose away from the dressing room. The importance of this can’t be downplayed. It’s absolutely huge getting their negativity as far away as possible.

Still a lot to play for this season.

A weird window, this one. Overall I’m pleased but there’s a vague, nagging feeling that it could have been better, that despite the excitement there was an incomplete, almost unreal sense of mild violation, as if I’d been goosed at midnight by an orc wearing a velvet glove

Looking forward to the rest of the season...should be a good buzz around the squad and it'll begin to feel more like Jose's team. Exciting times.

Looking at those age ranges we must be targeting one or two in the 22/23 age range to go with the other players. Trouble is, they are the most expensive players on the pitch.

A striker would of been the icing on the cake. We are pretty buggered now if Son gets injured or sent off again for example.

But I can’t really complain about the rest of the window. Over the last two years I’ve moaned continuously about our inability to move players on but this window has been good in that respect. Eg. Rose. You only have to look at his interviews since he’s moved to Newcastle and he’s so downbeat that unfortunately that wouldn’t of helped the rest of the group. For all poch’s talk of the collective, not addressing the Rose shaped problem (and the Eriksen one) was really unhelpful. Hopefully now that has been addressed (along with toby’s Contract) we can move on.

Also I’m really excited about the new boys. I’ve posted Mourinho’s pre match press conference in his thread. Go and have a look at his comments on Steve. He couldn’t of praised him any more. He sounds so excited about the signing and says the fans will love him.

Long term I think we have made good signings, short term I think we are going to struggle but frankly we’re paying José 15 million a year and whilst we should have got him a striker, I’m looking forward to seeing how he adapts as tactically there’s few better.

Only concern is the lack of depth up-top, I don’t want to see what happened to winks and Sissoko last season or a few of our other players where there’s no rotation options and they’re played into the ground. Hopefully we find a way to maybe play the false 9 with dele/Lamela taking that role as then we have 3 wingers we can rotate and alternate that with playing Son up there.

The rebuild has begun but there’s a few players who Will be overplayed whilst we transition

There’s no room for excuses in the summer if we don’t want to fall away.

Never forget Yellow and Blue.

I actually think it was a good window. GLC was a key to turn permanent and getting Eriksen and Rose out. That's 2 players who didn't want to be there gone.

Now we are adding players that want to be there. Gedson and Bergwijn weren't forced to join us so this could really lift the changing room.

Now we just need to bring back the handshakes

About a year ago I recall reading a stat that we scored more goals per game when Kane was out than when playing and that our win ration was about the same. I know that form hasn't been the same of late but it did show that we could cope and hopefully we can.

Striker? Jose was laughing and joking about it at press conference. Didn't seem at all annooyed.

The summer window is going to be massive. There is clearly going to be a huge numnber of players to move on, and 4 or 5 positions to strengthen in order to give Jose the squad he needs to challenge.

I'm still shocked we actually got money for Eriksen. The signings were good, can see the rebuild under Jose starting nicely. However, with Walker-Peters and Rose going out on loan we are left with one senior fullback each side in Aurier and Davies. The latter being injured. I guess Jose has seen Tanganga and thinks he can cover each side for now or possibly Foyth if needed.

We can’t score goals and can’t stop conceding, yet we’ve not sorted either - however it’s still been a good window. Odd feeling! Thanks to all the ITK’ers for their info as always, greatly appreciated ??
