Appreciate the info. The market is crazy every year, we either want to push on or we don't. The prices are never going to be fair or to our liking in the same way that van dijk or allison were over priced.
That has absolutely nothing to do with what we are being told. We are quoted a price, we meet it, they then up the price and we meet that. Then they’re trying to bump it further by bullshitting to other clubs. That is the info we’re being given.

We’re agreeing to pay what they ask but the price keeps going up every time we agree.

Cannot believe some of the posters since Hercs info :
It is what it is
Just pay up
The market has moved etc

That is not how business works, you cannot just keep saying “yes ok” to upping your original offer, word would soon get out and you would end up overpaying for every Aquisition you needed

Thanks for the info Herc, very informative
You might want to let Liverpool and City know about this - might have something to do with their respective lack of success this season. 🤪

On a serious note there is a middle ground in here somewhere, were at one end and your example is at the other. We will need to up our game imho if we really want to compete properly with the other top 10 European clubs in the transfer market.

We need major surgery?

We finished top 4 after everything that’s happened this season, played 6 games short of playing the maximum, reached a domestic cup semifinals and the Final of the biggest comp in Europe. What we need is to fill 2 positions in midfield before anything, and hope for a season with less injuries
Could not agree more with this. Given just one top class recruit in midfield but a guaranteed trouble free run with injuries then i'd have us comfortably top 4 again next season with the current squad (+ Lorente resigned). Personally feel we have come through a season that would have absolutely crippled any side,no matter how good they were.

I don't want to finish just top four. We need to win something major. Yeah last season was decent but I feel we can and should b able to do better without 'doing a Leeds'. We're literally within touching distance but get it this wrong this summer and we may not get another shot

we all want to win something major, even those that have seen us lift higher than the CoC, but there are only 4 trophies on offer to the top 5 clubs plus those that get in via the other comps. with the transfer market as crazy as it is today, we are no way going to match what Man C have achieved because even with 4 signings we still won't have the depth they have.

we need to fix our weakest spot 1st CM, we also could do with a CDM pending on what Poch has planed. as the old saying goes "Rome wasn't built in a day". lets hope we can get Ndombele and Lo Chelso in 1st, and hope if we are going to buy another 2-3 on top, that their fees don't stop that happening.

as Hercules stated, Levy and Poch are singing from the same hymn sheet. Poch will know his targets, and how much we have for them and others

I appreciate we need to be methodical with our signings and fix specific things first but let's face it, we need to be doing 2 summers worth of transfer business this summer, we've gone from needing 1 cm to needing 2 and that is before Eriksen leaves. We have left ourselves with a bit of a mountain to climb transfer wise. We're looking at 4 signings as is and if Alder and Eriksen leave we're looking at 5-6 and that's a hell of a lot to do in 1 summer.

to be honest with you, if we got our CM sorted, the full backs would get better protection. the main thing would be injuries again. that's what wrecked our season just as much as not getting the CM last season.

Hercules said Eriksen might sign a new contract yesterday, and Toby looks like he will run down his contract. the only other signing/s we need to consider is if we sell a player or 2 none of us expect

JJ seems very optimistic and bubbly this season with his comments about we will be happy going into next season, I just don't want everyone thinking if we sign 4 players that all of a sudden 100pts is in our sights, or we will be strong enough to compete like City on 4 fronts

Yeah I see your point better now, I agree completely, the 4 signings get you a ticket to the raffle, it doesn't guarantee a prize, City is a ridiculous animal the likes of which football hasn't seen, it's unfair to criticise the club for not having a squad with the same depth as that.

Good to see we are getting our excuses in nice and early this year. The market is what it is, there's no point complaining about it, like every other club we either accept the new reality or we don't (and like every other club we have a bucket load more TV money to soften the blow). Still hopeful of a brave new dawn and clearly early days but this transfer window is already starting to have an unwelcome air of familiarity about it.
You know Hercules isn't a spokesman for the club right? So when you say there's no point complaining about it, well, they aren't. Hercules is just sharing some information to help us understand what's going on with some of the deals.

I don't beleive the agents are completely to blame, its also the filthy rich clubs playing with monopoly money that agree to the ridiculous agents fees and commissions that are partly to blame and that has now become part and parcel of negotiation player transfer fees at the high end.

Agents are to blame massively. The fees for players has jumped ridiculously thanks to Neymar and M'bop, dap dap do wop, meaning agents can potentially now make mega money on a move.

Agents have far too much power now, shopping their talents out to get the best 'deal' for their 'clients' but ultimately getting the best deal for them.

We can't be naive about this anymore and I'm including myself in this, it's only really hit home recently how much power agents now have.

Anyone fancy setting up a new agency biz with me?!

This 100%

It is amazing the hypocracy of some on here. A few seasons ago it was all....

'I cannot believe how much X are paying for Y. It is disgracefull/ruining football/making it impossible for teams outside the top 4 to compete'

Fast forward to where we are now and it is all 'Throw caution to the wind' and 'ffs what are we playing at just pay however many gazillions to get the player in'

We have got where we are now by following a strict strategy.

Yes it is time to loosen the shackles a little bit. But it is also time to make sure we do the best for the club long term.

Slightly different scenario but look at what happened when we went on a spree with the Bale windfall.

I am sure that Levy is completely aware af what is required. But he is equally not going to go batshit crazy and now to the requests of every selling club.

That is a definate road to catastrophe going forward.

We made a few bets on players and ended up with eriksen, who if he leaves this window will probably cost more than bale did..

You've got to take a few risks on signing players if you want to get quality in!

We've got a large squad and a fantastic youth setup feeding it, but only a limited amount of truly 'top 2' players.

We need to do what Liverpool did last summer and January and target 2-3 real quality signings. Then sweep up a couple of opportunistic or younger players if/when they come available.

If we can get NDombele, Lo Celso and Sessegnon, that would transform pour team. With Winks and Sissoko it gives us four fantastic CM options, and Sessegnon can be our impact sub and cover for across the attacking areas.

There is a middle path though.

The
This aimed at the club not Herc but we were confident last year that deals would get done... means nothing in this business it appears.
difference this time round is the players seem more focussed on coming here as a priority move rather than waiting for other teams first.

How can you blame the agents? They are being paid to get the best possible deals for their clients. It's literally the purpose of employing one. The players can sack their agents at any time, and clubs can refuse to pay their demands, but they don't. Of course with every profession their are a few that don't play by the rules but the majority have the best interests of their clients at the forefront. This really isn't for discussion in this thread though, so I'll add that I've heard this morning we are trying to push the NDom deal. Here's hoping.
