1. Sign some players early to give a sense of optimism
2. Send rumours about targets and who we are interested in
3. Sell season tickets, shirts and merchandise
4. Profit???

We've always done business this way and guess what? So do most other teams.
The problem is that lots of fans keep checking this thread every 5 minutes to see if anything has changed. They then get dissapointed when it hasn't. After a couple of weeks the panic and mania set in and this site goes into meltdown.
Fucking cracks me up and happens every year. Can't wait to see which poster loses it first. We have a couple of contenders and the lets slag off levy posts are coming more frequently.
By far more fun than the Olympics.

I've been patient all window.. But now it's getting worrying..

It's complete bullshit that we've waited so long into the transfer window and not even signed one striker which is our main issue..

I understand things take time and Levy's negotiating is hard.. but come on, it's becoming a joke.

And from JJ, that's not good news coming from him..

Just hope everything will fall into place.

What??

So we've regularly got to the 'under two weeks' stage of a transfer window and been left with one striker with any premiership experience?

For every negative poster there is an unnecessarily 'holier than thou' poster looking to claim brownie points by being the least bothered fan in the vacinity. WE HAVE ONE OF THE WEAKEST SETS OF STRIKERS IN THE PREMIERSHIP RIGHT NOW. You think this is an acceptable situation for a club with our aspirations to be in? If you do...you're wrong. That's just a simple fact. Wrong.

I am blatantly confused. We dragged out the Vertonghen signing, but this was someone we knew we wanted and we signed him up early on. Unless we only have one set of negotiators, player procurement or scouts, then why is it then that we havent identified/made a move on any of the strikers we have been linked with? Something just doesnt add up, and hasnt done so for the past 2 years where we needed stability in the forward situation.

It's not as though the club doesnt realise this is the ONE BIG AREA where we need reinforcements in, I' would even go so far as to say that as soon as we sold Payvluchenko we would have surely been looking at incomings , perhaps even earlier when we knew Ade was a one season loan. What have we been doing since then?

And before the comments come in with "we're not fliush with cash/we're not Man City/We're not liverpool/we have to be careful with our operating budget'/we don't have CL to attract the top players", fine I agree with you on that. But for every player we miss out on, I can point to the signings made by lesser clus like Newcastle(Papis Cisse), Everton (Jelavic), Twente (Luc Costaignos), Borussia(Moenchengladbach (Luuk De Jong). Are our club that small that we cant even attract a decent player? Are our financial situation worse off than skint Everton? Is our scouting system that terrible that we have only to rely on established internationals and cannot unearth the potential and next'Berbatov'?

I guess what my post is alluding to, is that something doesnt quite add up and hasnt done so for the past few seasons. And frankly, I'm getting used to our being linked with names purely as a marketing exercise.

After all, we are a business entity solely , arent we?

We've got a bid in for ade, which is pending.
We're looking at leandro, which won't be done till after the final.
If they don't work out we have 3 weeks till the end of the window and we usually do business on the final day.

Agree 100% with your assessment Lilbaz, and there remains a little bit of hope in me that we can do the right thing this time round. however with our first game away to Newcastle 6 days away, and with Adebayor having little or no pre-season training, and Leandro needing to gel in with the team (even if he is an excellent player he still needs time to know the team's playing style).. a further 2 games before the window closes.....and considering our striker option is only Defoe and Kane now) it still begs the question, do we know what we are doing as club? (not talking about as as business)

What role will Sig play? He scores goals for fun, also defoe isn't the worst player on the planet.
Not ideal I agree. Like everyone else i'd love a super strikers, but so does every team.

Well it's not particularly true that Levy isn't spending money or doesn't spend money. I'm having a hard time seeing the distinction between posts that are actual ITK and posts that are just fan opinion with all these ITK on twitter. JJ is no different in this regard. And I'm happy he has his opinion, but it's wrong. And it's stupid. When I say stupid things, I get handed my ass, rightly. When he says stupid things about our cheap chairman, nobody calls him on his bullshit. Maybe he's a golden calf who we can't. But he stated opinion and not fact, and so I'm not going to treat him any less than I would somebody else (which is many of you today)

So let's do this with some numbers. Because.....fuck you....SCIENCE

We have spent joint 3rd highest. But notice the issue here....spending is down massively. The league spent 510m GPB's last summer. This is well under half that. This is about 200m GPB's. I can't see 310m being spent in the last 3 weeks. As it stands we have spend 8.8% of the total. So within the framework of a new era of transfers, we have done okay.

Spending by Club this summer
€ 75.8m Chelsea
€ 44m Arsenal
€ 22.5m Tottenham
€ 22.5m Manchester United
€ 13.3m Liverpool
€ 12.9m Southampton
€ 10.4m Aston Villa
€ 10m West Ham
€ 7.1m QPR
€ 6.8m Reading
€ 6.7m Wigan
€ 5.8m Everton
€ 5.1m Norwich City
€ 5.1m Swansea City
€ 5m West Brom
€ 1.9m Newcastle
€ 0 Fulham
€ 0 Stoke City
€ 0 Sunderland
This table is sourced from a site that does everything in Euros so sorry about that.

And just so it's not forgotten.....despite last summer, he spends a lot of money

Last 5 years
Manchester City £483,450,000
Chelsea £293,300,000
Liverpool £221,850,000
Tottenham £163,700,000
Manchester United £154,950,000
Aston Villa £144,100,000
Arsenal £137,400,000
Everton £51,000,500
Newcastle £66,150,000

4th! That's right 4th. More than Arsenal and United.

But just so I'm clear, fucking buy a striker Levy. C'mon!

My theory is that Berbatov broke his heart and he has refused to buy them since. We've bought Defoe and Crouch, got a bottle return on Keane and took Saha and Ade as loans. This is a man who needs to love again when it comes to forwards

Have to agree with this it's utterly wrong the way we go about things and I'm afraid we will suffer at Newcastle for it as I can see them taking us apart.
Then like last year there will be a mad scramble on the last couple of days to do something, this is not the workings of a top four club we will be a laughing stock come the next couple of weeks.

I don't blame Levy for not getting a new shiny striker in yet, it's hard to buy players, they are massive assets worth huge sums and this isn't Monopoly.

That said, there has been some naive decisions made. Selling one striker, getting one in on loan, then selling another was stupid.

I know Pav wasn't everyone's cup of tea (mine included) but surely we must have known the Adebayor issue was never going to be clear cut (everyone else did). So now we're left with one striker, one who cannot play up on his own and who's fault is that?

Forgive me as I've been afk all day, but in the midst of all this meltdown has Akqa confirming Lloris and Butland made this thread at all? With Hugo to be announces by the weekend?

@Journo_London: Hugo #Lloris has agreed to join #Spurs. Confirmed by the weekend. #Butland agreed terms last week. Stays at B'Ham on loan. #THFC #ITK

@akqayid: @Journo_London you have that correct
I give you that fella

Lloris AND butland? there's literally no way.

There is a lot of discrepancy between ITK info. Maybe the club are putting out different information to catch the perps?
