I am suspicious that many that don't rate JG are saying that because he is not coming from a bigger club etc
He is a quality player and still improving
I expect you were also under whelmed when we signed Deli?

Regarding Josh. Personally think he will stay, as he doesn’t want to go anywhere. Moreso, he toed the party line, went on loan at his request. Been working very hard, and attitude spot on. Has a specific diet plan, and fitness schedule before returning to pre season training.

Crazy to think that this might be his 1st free summer without any England youth duty. He's definitely going to come back stronger and fitter for this pre-season.

I find Grealish really underwhelming. It's not that he's a bad player, he has potential, but we were under the impression this summer we were going to be brave and push the boat out finally.

But it seems we are still shopping in Lidl when we were led to believe it was now Waitrose.

A lot of supermarkets give you money back if your shop would have been cheaper somewhere else. Levy's just cutting out the middle man.

Honestly, I know that this place can be drama central at times, but it's two months (and an entire World Cup!) until deadline day. Maybe that first deal won't be a showstopper (or maybe it will?) but our first signing last summer was Gazzaniga, if I remember correctly*. What does it matter so long as they all come in on time?

*I checked - same day as Sanchez, can't remember who was announced first.

I havn't seen much of Grealish, just a couple of times this season and he's looked pretty good to me, certainly in the talented with more to come bracket.

Now the pertinent point in all this is not the fact that this signing lacks glamour or some wow factor, it's simply this question...

How good has Pochettino been at developing young English players? (rhetorical of course)

I mean, Grealish has made 34 Premier League appearances in his career thus far spanning 2 PL seasons. A comparison to Dele couldnt be further from the mark

When he first came on the scene those few years ago, he instantly performed well and showed flashes of real talent, before his own immaturity and Villa imploding got in the way.

Since then he’s had to be a main player in a struggling team, show much more accountability and has apparently had a huge U-turn in attitude. Given he has the potential to grow a lot further, this all bodes well for a transition back into the PL.

the PL & 1st season in the Championship, Grealish I wouldn't of touched with a barge pole. This season he seems to of matured, perhaps that tosser John Terry, or Steve Bruce gave him a gentle kick up the arse that was required.

Or maybe John Terry threatened to shag his...well I’d say girlfriend but more probably, his Mum.

I mean I’m not at the losing my shit stage yet but you can understand some frustration when we’ve gone from Bale / Martial / De Ligt to Grealish / Shaquri / Rondon !

Hope as Herc says it’s a case of juggling finances to get the overall mix of signings right!

We haven't gone from Bale to anyone. If you built your hopes up into believing it was something we were actually trying to do then that's your own fault you silly sausage..

Heard nothing at all on Shaquiri, and nothing on Rondon for a long long time. It's possible we could end up with all three of the others..

Because Graelish is shit.
Shit is probably overboard, but he is supposed to be the team’s main creative hub and a player people are comparing as an Eriksen type yet managed a whopping 5 assists...Snodgrass got 13 assists in the same team FFS.

I can understand why people find this ITK underwhelming as I’ve got to agree that I’m not entirely filled with hope from it.

£20m for Grealish would certainly fall into the 'creative' category Herc spoke of in the past.

I'm probably more in the Maddison camp as he seems to be a much bigger goal threat off of both feet and still seems to be a good playmaker like Grealish. We know Daniel loves a bargain however and if the price difference is £10m then there's only one outcome. If he signs I hope he does well. Sissoko made 33 PL appearances last season so there should be opportunities for him still.

If Poch is all in that's fine with me. We need more creative options for breaking teams down.

Can't help but think this is a bit convenient however. Lot of talk about us going up a notch in recruitment this window yet the first signing looks to be a £20m opportunistic bargain. Even more so when we flirted with well known exciting prospects like Pulisic and Bailey in recent weeks. On the same day things seem to get ropey with De Ligt too.

Still hopeful we'll have a big window and add significant quality but I can't blame the more cynical fans from having concerns either...

I'd say Grealish compares favorably to Eriksen, understanding that Grealish has room to grow.

Let's just overlook that one of them played in the Championship, the other in the best league in the world. (y)
Signing Grealish is what we would have done when we were trying to break into top 4. Now that we are a top 4 team 3 years running, we should improve on our past transfer strategy, not follow it more closely than ever before. It's a different ballgame, being a top 4 team than trying to become a top 4 team.
