I find that hard to believe. Definitely agree with the potential bit, although I'm a little concerned about his aerial ability. He reminds me a little of Rocha, who never got a fair crack with us.

Vlad performed a lot better than Vertonghen last season and half our fans think he is the benchmark as far as our CBs are concerned. I think he did fine in difficult circumstances last year & given the backing of Poch we'll see that. Far too many people seem to forget about him, just presuming that he's backup for Verts. He's captain of Romania for a reason & very capable, just been a bit forgotten as the 'seventh signing' so to speak. I like him a lot & going forward prefer him to Verts.

There's a reasonable amount of noise suggesting Chiriches could go and I'd be pissed off if he did; I think he is probably our best CB and certainly if he isn't he has the most potential.

Chiriches largely dismissed the rumours today. A couple of quotes from an interview with Romania earlier:

"I enjoyed my first season at Spurs and in the Premier League. It’s a great league and I love to play here."

"My first season was amazing. I’ve met some great players, some great guys and it’s been so good for me."

Being a Fan Fave like Vertonghen gets you a free ticket on here. Funnily, in 2005-06 Dawson was very much a Fave, and any adverse criticism was liable to get you a flaming. Now the pendulum's swung too far in the opposite direction.

Definitely agree on Vlad.

Verts was my biggest disappointment this year. Easily one of my favourite players but time and again he didn't step up. Hopefully he'll get the fire in his belly again. Should be one of our leaders.

He doesn't get a free ride and has been heavily criticised for his attitude this season but the difference between him and Dawson is that Vertonghen will be classed as a quality defender for another 4-5 years, maybe more, whereas Dawson's best years are behind him and he's now rapidly declining.

Dawson has easily got 3 years left in him at the very top. Blimey he's only just turned 30. That's 3 years younger than Terry and 5 younger than Ferdinand

for Daws to have three years left "at the very top" is a bit of a jump - when's he ever been at the very top?

3 years at a mid table side, not with us.

Ps, like your name ... quite fitting as I've just twisted my knee lol

I don't think age is or was the mitigating factor that separated Rio Ferdinand from Dawson.

Totally agree with this. He did himself no favors with his attitude this year. Better believe scouting, etc pay attention to those sorts of things. Yes, he may be talented. But if he lacks mental fortitude and willingness to fight, you wouldn't go overboard in terms of compensation. Wonder if he's aware that he impacted his earning potential by essentially having a few moments where he basically threw up the white flag. Forget all of our summer signings -- I thought he was by far the largest disappointment last year.

Can't really see why we'd go for Vorm.

He's too good to be a backup and probably not good enough to be a Hugo replacement. I actually rate him quite highly, but if Hugo was to go you'd want us to try and find someone at the same level...and I'm not sure Vorm is at that level.

Oh come on- there are not many better keepers in the WORLD and chances we will get one a slimmer than slim! One thing I know for sure is that our next keeper won't be as good as our present one (Hugo not Brad!)

Can't wait to watch Dawson and Caulker partnering each other.
The English dream team right there. The media and the people with the English superiority complex will be drooling all over this and call it our best center back pairing. Cant wait.
