That feels like overkill, unless Gray is only a RB backup, or we sell Skipp as well. Even then thats a lot of established players in midfield expecting a lot of minutes.
Ange inherited both Bissouma and Bentancur, they weren't his choice. Both of them showed last season that they can't be relied upon, both for different reasons.

Both of them might become the players they've shown they can be, but I would imagine that Ange has big question marks over both of them right now, so getting in more MF options, given the likely loss of PEH (39 appearances), Skipp (24 appearances) and Lo Celso (24 appearances) this summer makes sense.

I would probably say the likely scenario could be:

Ederson replaces PEH
Gray replaces Skipp
Bergvall replaces Lo Celso

Given that we've got at least another 10-12 games to play this season that would give enough playing time to all the incomers, as well as allow us to have proper rotation options for Bentancur and Bissouma if they go on bad runs of form again. And then there's injuries on top.

I know people don’t want to hear this but I think expecting two big signings in the forward line is unrealistic and you’ll end up disappointed. I would love it personally but I think it will be one of Neto/Eze/Doue
But surely Doue doesn’t fall under the category of ‘big’ signing though, he’s 19 and won’t be enough should he be our only statement signing.

I’m not expecting to get Eze and Neto at all, but Doue plus one of those two is pivotal.
A statement signing and a young prospect in our forward line should be more than achievable.

He would be a massive signing - look at who's coveting him!

Kubo and Bakayoko are other wingers Tottenham like. Not seen above the ones mentioned.
I'd much rather Bakayoko than Kubo from what i've seen/heard. But nevertheless I think the Neto deal could be tricky so good to know we are targeting positions and needs over opportunities as we've been known to do in the past.

It's certainly not overkill imo, i'd be more sceptical that it's another foreign player but i'm sure the club is aware of the situation on that.

He would be a huge statement signing for the club

Definitely Bakayoko over Kubo but he also has a huge amount of admirers so not sure it would necessarily represent an 'easier' deal however it does mean not having to dance with the devil in Mendes/Gestifute (obviously in reference to Neto).

The difficulty is that 'big' statement signings won't come to us as:
  • We're not favourites to win the prem
  • We don't pay the biggest wages
  • We're not in CL

We can't target the biggest names as they'll always go to City / Madrid / Bayern for the glory, Liverpool / Barca for the prestige or Utd / Chelsea for the money.

We have two options, we can either target players who:
  • fallen out of favour at the big clubs
    • Van der Vaart
    • Kulusevski
    • Bentancur
  • or take risks on the next generation who haven't proved their value yet
    • Vicario
    • Udogie
    • Van de Ven
    • Sarr
    • Gray
    • Bergvall

Doue certainly falls into that 2nd category and from everything we've seen and heard he's likely to be out of our reach over the next couple of seasons. There are always risks involved and not every player will realise their potential but the ITK we're hearing is exciting purely on the style of player we're targeting

Is Doue a big name signing though? He's a big prospect for sure but only Eze and Neto for me fit into the big name category. So for sure I only see us sign one of those 2 but I'm sure we can and will try to sign a young prospect as well. Doue is this summer's Nusa.

He isn’t necessarily a big name to the general fandom yet but in the world of football, behind the scenes it would be seen as a huge signing, a massive coup for the club.

He is Rennes next big star and is seen as one of the biggest talents on the planet.

I know. Why not clog the ITK thread with arguments about whether players are BIG NAMES, instead of taking it to the player’s thread where I’m sure this has been discussed at length already.

To be fair we’re discussing ITK in the ITK discussion thread…

He may well be but I'm saying that as a signing it's not going to be seen as a big one largely. Many are not going to know him, the pundits aren't going to speak about him like they would Eze and Neto. Not until he rips it up in a big league. He should also be more affordable than signing those 2 from fellow PL clubs. I think given his age and relative unknown by many with his price tag it's not unreasonable to expect him to be possible along with a big money signing like Neto.

Does anyone else find it curious/surprising that we are after a left footed RW?

Especially given how frustrating it is watching Deki be unable to cross and just endlessly cut inside?

I thought Ange loved a cut back above all else.

Neto has no problem going down the line. It's not about what foot he prefers but his ability to go in either direction.

If Deki could do this he wouldn't be half as frustrating.

Werner, for example, has no problem going down the line and using his left, and was able to create chances simply by having that ability.
