It you care that much go through and add a word censor so “no 6” changes to “press-resistant deep-lying playmaker” :p
What happened to good old defensive midfielder? Or should we just revert to the Makalele role again?

That'd be worth doing just to read the complaints we'd get about it :D

But take the whole thing apart and what you are left with is a bunch of lazy bastard hipsters participating in the latest fad, that's exactly what it is and i'll even treat you all to some A&C wisdom and tell you why.

In the past we've had a shedload of this buzzwords or phrases, from watercarrier, false nine and tiki-taka to pivot and all sorts of others. They pretty much all decline in popularity as the next one moves in. This one won't last either. You're all fucking sheep................baa! baa!

Having bored everyone with all of that, it's not all bad, some things are easily understandable, which makes it easier to get on board with. This 6 and 8 or whatever it is, is just fucking horseshit and the enemy of your older football fan who was watching football when it was proper football and most of todays fans were still safely tucked away in daddies nutsack.

And i've ITK on that :sneaky:

Both would improve us, thats surely the aim?
But how much of an improvement is the question? Surely a stop-gap improvement for a season isn't the answer?

Signing Kalvin Phillips would be an upgrade on Skipp, but there's no-way the reward outweighs the risk.

We need to stop with the squad-padding and instead target genuine upgrades and long-term prospects.

Sniffing round 'squad improvements' which barely see-out the season; Nkoudou, Stambouli, Fazio, Solomon, etc. The writing's on the wall before they've even had a run of games.

I actually really like both and think they are genuine upgrades. Whether they work out, who knows but I personally like both

Just set up a bot to post after every use of “number 6“ to say “That’s Numberwang!”

Trequartista was my favourite.

Hearing fat, balding 45 year-old men use that down the pub was beautiful.

BIN....along with 'inside forwards', 'gegenpressing', 'Trequartista' and countless other FM buzz-words.

Simples - You have the ball, in which case you're an 'attacker'. Or the other team has the ball, in which case you're a 'defender'.

Simple game complicated by idiots.

Exactly, always difficult to know how thinks work out, but I am with you, I see both as upgrades on what we have. I dont understand why people are already calling them stop gaps

The number fascination amongst our elder population is interesting because it stems from the old fashioned shirt numbering system…

If you're convinced it's the hipster metrosexuals at the root of the number fetish, maybe index to the Costa menu? A 6 becomes a Skinny Latte for example...

Mate I don't get why it bothers you so much. "Enemy of your older football fan"? Hahaha. Human language and terminology evolve, that's all it is, otherwise we may as well be still speaking Shakespearean English.

I’m ill at these numbers
I have not art to reckon my groans

Hamlet Act 2 Scene 2

See even Shakespeare didn’t like the 6, 8, 10 terminology.
