In response to D1’s ITK I think it will be a massive mistake if we don’t bring in a backup LB.

We’ll hopefully play 50+ games this season and can’t rely on Destiny who’s recovering from a serious injury or Mickey to cover that position.

Donley has done well but let’s be honest it’s been poor opposition and the PL is a completely different level. It’s also not fair on his development either to keep him around to get limited minutes at a position he’s never played in before this pre season.

Edit - I forgot Davies but for me he can’t invert and has zero pace. He can stay this season as 4th choice CB and that’s it really
Jamie Donley ?
Edit. Just realised I’m in ITK thread .. apologies

Anyway to get this back on track, Trix in the Solanke thread:

I voiced my opinion back of house on Solankie earlier today. Based on snippets of information and admittedly not all that much substance, I think he's being lined up as the fall back option, as we are definitely in contact. My man thinks we have someone else is in mind but it's being well hidden. Normally when there is a mystery man in the mix, kept under wraps, it's because he is the primary target.

Guess we will find out shortly.

Given that everything I'd heard about Donley until c. the Hearts match was that he was an attacking player, and the official site's profile calls him a centre forward, I'm a bit concerned that he's now seen as our new left back.

As others have said, with Udogie, Spence and Davies he may never see the pitch in that position, and we have bigger fish to fry, but it feels like the sort of minor decision that could come back to haunt us in spectacular fashion in a few months time.

But then, I'm still not wholly over the Son-as-wingback semi-final so perhaps I'm being overly pessimistic about a young player who may blossom with the chance to try something new.

Good ITK that we focusing on the attack.
Exciting season ahead with the players at our disposal.
Feels more like we will have balance across the team rather than just having one person carry the team when we are doing shit.

D1 in response to someone asking if we will bring in another CB:

We will not be buying another center half anytime soon , we have three world class center half’s and Dorrington , Philips and luka vuskovic coming through

we were looking at full backs but Spence and donley have had great pre seasons
This is some of the most refreshing and positive ITK we’ve had for a while regarding the development of our youth players. It’s also just smart given we only have a finite budget and as per the ITK post above this our focus is on strengthening the forward positions so by developing the likes of Dorrington, Phillips, Vuskovic, Donely, Spence etc we will save money from this years budget so we can hopefully buy two top draw well suited attacking 1st team upgrades.

Some interesting and varied ITK the last few days, seems like things are hotting up. Big thank you to all the ITK’s and Mods etc as usual. Now back out of this thread I go and back to the player threads :)

Regarding Trix's latest ITK, I don't want to start a guessing game, but Trix himself admitted that he hadn't heard anything about Yang before it was imminent. Rob started that thread through some behind the scenes info, and the latest thread he mysteriously started in a similar manner was Gyokeres...👀

I'd have preferred a loan back in England tbh.
He doesn't speak English so he'd be in a new environment and unable to speak fluently to his new team mates - puts him on the back foot before a balls been kicked. Spain much better place for him to (hopefully) show his potential.

He'll have to learn english eventually anyway (and he must have had this all pre-season anyway) so I'm not sure this is a good reason..!
It may just be that no clubs at the top of the championship wanted to offer him required game time

There’s also every chance that we’re just opening the shop window to clubs in Spain, his preferred destination, for when we look to sell him next summer.

It's a pretty good reason - sticking a teenager into a new environment when he also doesn't speak the language has got to be less likely in helping him settle, and therefor produce his best, than sending him to a place where he will feel far more at home.
