So can we all confirm and be confident that finally Vertonghen will be a spurs player by the weekend? Judging by the ITK'S today and rumours in holland, to me this looks to be done. Vertonghen is a spur :)

Don't do it to yourself. This is Spurs we're talking about. He'll probably end up signing for Arsenal for a fiver and we'll bring back Neil Ruddock instead.

@ spurger king, but normally when 3 ITK'S say "done deal" which they have today, it almost certainly means it's happening surely? POTL get's good feedback on here and he has put his neck on the line to say he will be a spurs player, surely this means we got him?

I dont get it. Do we have insurance on our players?

Of course. You don't have multi million pound assets that aren't insured.

Some clubs' insurance even stipulates things like the team isn't allowed to travel on the same airplane etc.

Ba is a £10m asset, that is high risk of becoming completely valueless. It's the reason West Ham and Newcastle got him so cheaply (they were also very desperate at the times they took the risk too).

It probably does, and I'm hoping it happens in the next couple of days too, however I'm just trying to retain a healthy skepticism to save myself from being too confident.

POTL also said Diarra was 'done' last summer.

And Vucinic about this time last year.

Don't do it to yourself, deal's can always fail at the final hurdle even when the ITK's say it's pretty much there. It's not official until it's on the Spurs Website.

Wasn't Arshavin claimed as done deal? And Fabiano? Not to mention the infamous pre-contract of Lukaku

Yeh true guys, i do remember Vucinic and Diarra being "done" and that never happened. I do think Vertonghen is done though because our own media have been all over it and it's been pretty quiet the last few days which usually means positive.

I don't ever remember POTL saying "Diarra is a spur" or "Vucinic is a spur" .....where as he has actually said "Vertonghen is a spur" .....so basically he can't backtrack or try to make an excuse if this deal was to fall through, my point being if it weren't done completely then he wouldn't be saying "vertonghen is a spur" ....he might of just said "It's a done deal"

Ba's over rated. I say Ba to Ba.

Yup.
Ba humbug.
He had an immediate impact, so did Chamakh.
With that injury record, I would be wanting to see another year of him delivering and not breaking down beofre I would even remotely think there was any wisdom in going for him.

Oh, be fair, his impact was altogether less immediate than Chamakh's.

Given that one or both of his knees could explode any moment, however, we should stay well clear.

Is there any ITK regarding this?

All the talk of Ba being a crock is due to the fact he failed the Stoke medical a few years back. He went on to play 12 times for West Ham scoring 7 times, then 34 times for newcastle scoring 16 times and not forgetting he also went to the African cup of nations.

Are the same doubters questioning Remy as he almost failed Marseille medical due to a heart condition.

BTW, I find it wholly spurious when folk in the real World trying and make what goes on in their careers in some way analagous to footballers' careers. They are nothing alike. One of the reasons footballers get paid a fortune is because they are so unalike.

Can you explain this ? I never said it was the same, my point it we all look at it from a Spurs view - you have to take yourself out of that and look at it as a professional. You say they are not a like but the principles are the same, if you do a good job you expect to be rewarded, and in what you do you (ideally) want to work with the best in that field. Example: If you were a manager at Aldi and you got an offer to work for Tesco. A contract is a piece of paper with the player's salary on it...the years mean nothing until its the last year and they can leave for free. So I think its a lot more similar and you have to look beyond the absolute sums they are paid and scale it down to your average person's salary.

Also, you can't compare how Fabregas was at the end of his Goons career with how Modric was last year. Fabregas had been tapped up the two previous Summer's, making that his third at the Scumerates when he had wanted to go and the Goons refused to let him. Wait until Modric has been here for a third season after Modric-Gate began, and see how he is and then compare it to Fabregas.

OK then what about Jagielka at the first few months of this season? He and the manager admitted the summer speculation affected him and he was awful at the start of the season, I remember watching MOTD and he was all over the shop. Luckily he managed to turn it around and get into the Euros squad. I'm not saying we should be grateful to Modric for...well doing his job really...as he did say he was "not fit to play" the first two games. But I am saying I have some respect for him for his professionalism because over the years there have been many many others who haven't been as professional.

'A few years back'? It was barely more than a year ago. He'd previously failed a medical with Stuttgart, presumably because of the knee problems, and signed with the Spammers on a pay-as-you-play basis. The fact that he's not had serious problems since is no guarantee that he won't have them pretty soon.

It's easier to fix a heart defect than fucked knees.
