Maddison and VDV have shown they’re top signings, and we’ve already got a new manager and relatively new players to fit in our first XI. People need to calm down.
There it is, the first sign of acceptance

That's only 'if' that happens. We bring in Johnson and Tosin then it's players we've looked at and identified. It’s this bit that smacks of having no coherent plan - or at least being happy to ignore the plan and to hell with the consequences.
That said, I'm not necessarily sure cb and forward are our most pressing needs.
I suppose the other far fetched opportunity could be players we'd identified but had parked because we either had got a firm no or hadn't pursued because we didn't think we'd get anywhere suddenly become available. That's only 'if' that happens. We bring in Johnson and Tosin then it's players we've looked at and identified.
Agree that we need a forward and (if the cb outs happen) another cb in, but I'm not sure that them having been scouted/identified necessarily has any impact on whether or not they are good signings. We all know that things can change a lot at the end of a window. Say an option we didn't believe would have been possible before, suddenly is today, but is a fantastic player/fit, are you saying that would be a bad deal because they weren't identified/scouted early?
I broadly get that, but Bentancur and Kulusevski seemingly were options that cropped up and we were able to capitalise. Broadly speaking if we take a step back and remove a lot of the emotion, our ins over the past couple of seasons have been really good, and generally pretty well thought through. Yes we've got huge issues in terms of moving people on, but I think the evidence is actually pretty strong for saying our work in getting players in since Paratici arrived has been very good.I think it's not about whether the particular deal is a good/bad deal but rather that the process to arrive at it doesn't lend itself to repeat success, so it's not consistent and so for the bigger picture, it could mean that down the line, it doesn't yield results.
There's no guarantee's that a structured approach means a player is certain to be a success but having a process gives us the best chance of increasing probability of steps in the right direction, one after the other.
Whatever actions yielded VDV and Vicario is the way I think we should make signings.
I feel like all the more solid links have been for more versatile wide forwards, not strikers. The only seemingly credible link for a striker was Orban, and there's been no noise around that for a couple of weeks.I think the issue is a lack of consistency across the players we are being linked with.
Now obviously we have to take all of that with a pinch of salt, but it doesn't feel like we've got an idea on what type of players we want to bring in in key areas.
In particular upfront it feels like we really don't know if we want a wide player, a striker or some sort of hybrid.
Obviously if players that fit the plan come up in the last day of the window then whether we've looked at them for 30 days or 30 minutes shouldn't be the deciding factor.
But it would be nice if there was a plan in the first place. The ITK this window has suggested very much otherwise.
As I said in the original post, if we see CBs leave, we obviously need some in. Sanchez isn't ideal, but I could deal with him and Davies as back up. Note I say deal with, obviously ideally I want better. But, Tuesday night showed me that the bigger issues are what we do if Bissouma and Maddison are out of the team. Gio was anonymous, and Hojbjerg/Skipp couldn't provide what was needed to take the ball from the cbs and progress the ball. They offered nothing. For me, another 6 who can take the ball under pressure and move it forwards, a back up to Maddison are the most pressing issues. Followed by a suitable cb back up or left back back up.So what is? It’s not wing backs, keeper or midfielder.
You’re right. I should, and will withhold judgement until the end of the window. That's only 'if' that happens. We bring in Johnson and Tosin then it's players we've looked at and identified.
Is the correct action to throw all the toys out of the pram cos we’re not signing a player many of us didn’t want on a deal that wouldn’t show any long term planning? There it is, the first sign of acceptance
Most likely scenario has been Tosin and Johnson for a while imvho.back in talks for tosin
We've been Tosin & turning making our minds up on this oneback in talks for tosin
Johnson deal hasn't moved todayMost likely scenario is Tosin and Johnson imvho.
I’d be happy with that at this stage. Most likely scenario is Tosin and Johnson imvho.
