I dont think there are many examples of mature players having better scoring records in the premier league than in their home leagues - I am now battening down the hatches.............

I don't think Berba hit 23 in a season at Leverkusen, and I think Torres has out scored his record in Spain, in previous seasons

I fail to get excited by this. There is no chance we will sign Benzema or Llorente. One day soon we will look back at these rumours an laugh like when we "nearly signed rivaldo"!!!

Would love Llorente. Who knows. If Real Madrid opt to sign Adebayor in the summer then they wont go for Llorente because they're of similar style. It would be a risk for Llorente to hold out for Madrid when a team is willing to make him their star striker. I think a move to Spurs makes more sense for Llorente than Madrid. At Madrid he will just be a squad player, but at Spurs he'll be the first choice striker. He's a real talent and definitely the ideal striker for us. He isn't world class, but is potnetially world class if he gets his chance at a big club. Which makes him getable imo.

My flabber would be well and truly gasted if we got Llorente. Especially with 2 days left of a Jan window. Don't doubt the info/good faith etc and hope to be stunned in a couple of days but until then, not even going to entertain the idea.

Thanks for the info and welcome to SC. On here you'll make friends, enemies, get offers from a few members from blow jobs to letting you fcuk thier wives and then to cap it off, if we don't sign a striker they will run you out of town (well try anyway). :hello:

I can't remember exactly when but we were linked with the Lyon forward Lisandro Lopez earlier this week .... he's on the bench for Lyon tonight ... could be something in it? Since when did Lyon leave their 20+ million signing on the bench?

This, but still unlikely to happen. At the end of the day if he proves to be great I'm sure Madrid would be back in for him sooner or later

Maybe we've agreed to sell him on to Real when we've finished with him - first refusal?

Llorente would be awesome, he has moved up to the next level in the last year or so. Good skill and greater header of the ball, he would score for fun with Bale and Lennon, and should play off VDV well.

However, Bilbao selling him to us for £20M sounds unbelievable in the literal sense...hard to believe.

Would be closer to £30M I would think, and he may just want to stay there or hold off for Madrid/Barca in the summer.

What is with this bizarre obsession about getting the "right type of striker?" The only type of striker we need is one that bags goals, period!

Luis Suarez is a world class talent in the mold of Tevez, who is still very young and has performed fantastically on both the club and international stage. He is incredibly versatile, and above all, has a great nose for the goal. Anyone who thinks he would be repetitive or not compatible with VdV is fooling themselves. He would've been a fantastic signing for us.

Furthermore, if everyone is so obsessed with signing a so-called "#9," then why waste time and bids for the likes of Carroll? Throw 35 million+Pav for Fernando Llorente. He is a more complete striker than Carroll will ever be and has even more upside.

By the way, can someone reconcile the following for me: We're being told that we cannot break our wage structure because Bale, Modric, and VdV will demand more money as a result.... Yet, we are SUPREMELY confident that these same players will shun moves (in the case we don't finish top 4) that will earn them 3 times the wages and Champions League football?

It makes no sense.....

Let me also make another point. What kind of message does it send to the likes of Bale and Modric that we continue to dither about and not land a striker who can make the most of their service? Does it not speak of our ambition, a tad?

Furthermore, why in the world would landing a striker this upcoming summer be any easier? Clubs know we will be desperate for one and will ask us for equally large, "crazy" sums, and the players we need will want "crazy" wages, as well. Beyond that, truly elite clubs with more status and Champions League football to offer will also be after these major strikers as well. Why would someone like Hulk then, pick us for less wages, over any number of clubs (City, Chelsea, Arsenal, ManU, Real Madrid, Bayern, Inter, etc) who could not only offer more money, but also top flight football in Europe?

Our advantage to land the elite striker we need is now.
